EVSE in an old gas pump

Getting closer to it finally being legit. It will detect the voltage and amp then use a stepper motor to count the counter up at the correct kw rate. got a custom PCB worked up to control it all. Admin note: Image added for Blog feed

This thread will most likely take months to years to see me complete it. But curious if anyone else out there has done this/had the idea. So the localish ice cream shop has this setup. Sitting there licking my cone and got to thinking; it'd be neat to use a current transformer, arduino and...

M3LR or MYP for road trips?

Ahh speaking of headwinds: the app "windy" is really helpful in figuring out what its looking like. On long highway stretches I look at the trees/fields for how the wind is doing as well. When you're on autopilot most of the time its easy to not feel what the car is doing. you really do...

M3LR or MYP for road trips?

my road trip basics: 1: arrival goal is 7%. burn energy by going faster. go slower if it dips under 7%. Ride the curve basically. consider how much distance between chargers as well. dont risk it if you're trying to make the only charger in 40 miles with a headwind. 2: prioritize 250kw...

    Supercharger - Elwood, NJ

no transformer on the pad. the pad is under the cones to the left of the tesla white boxes. ready to do.
  33. J

M3LR or MYP for road trips?

i'd take the MYP for the space. Not really. use plugshare to find the right charger. check the energy chart to make sure you're not in a head wind. try to arrive at 7%. leave at 55-60% to the next one. quickest way to put down miles.

    AC relay for car charger?

i'd suggest using a 120v coil contactor and use a smart plug with an internal schedule or IFTT/alexa ex: https://www.amazon.com/YC-CN-603-2-CN-PBC603-120V-DEFINITE-CONTACTOR-120VCOIL/dp/B01HGUD29W https://www.amazon.com/Sonoff-Monitoring-Certified-Assistant-Supporting/dp/B08GKGS197

We are still a long way from the convenience of gas stations

my average charge time during a 3000 mile trip was 14 minutes. I regularly do work trips that require a SC or two for the day. its a non issue. it of course takes more planning than a gas car. it's not parity yet. however it's not nearly the nightmare you're making it out to...

    General California charging discussion

  41. J

    General California charging discussion

can't wait for 500-750kw charging. then this is a non issue.
  42. J

    General California charging discussion

it ends at 200kw. starts at 270kw. and i was mental mathing off 40kw needed.
  43. J

    General California charging discussion

you wont see me crying if they hold it that high that deep. we're sub 7 minute per 150 miles of range then.
  44. J

    General California charging discussion

so extra 20kw from 7 to 25% or so assuming the curve has to start earlier to hit 250kw at 30%. not life changing amount of time difference. but on the 4680s i think it'll hold 270kw until deep into the pack. 50% is my hope.
  45. J

    General California charging discussion

not much since the charge curve drop off occurs at 30%. maybe a minute or two faster when really low in the pack.
  46. J
