Model X Founder Series - Facts

This is not correct. I've been told the actual number was 42, not 27. I own a Model S Founders series that is higher than 27.

Tesla no longer selling NEMA 6-50 Adapter

That adapter won't help you if you need to plug in to a 6-50 outlet. The 'R' in 6-50R means 'receiver' (i.e. female end). If you need an adapter to plug in to a 6-50 outlet then you need a 6-50P to 14-50R adapter.

    Feedback on Hankook 21s?

I have a stagger setup with the Hankooks on my P85: 285/30/21 rear, 245/35/21 front. They are not the new 2's as I have had them for about 9 months. I don't put anywhere near as many miles on my car as you do but I think I have about 10k miles on this set. My Conti's on the OEM 21" rims...

During a recent service battery swap received an A pack???

I couldn't agree more, Apache. This continues to be my only (at least justifiable) beef. A concise email to affected car owners and all service personnel would have changed the course of history for the better on this one topic.

    Tesla Service Plan Change

This statement (below) is way more broad than what they actually do. You might want to get someone to sign that for you :-) "you would be eligible to receive any of the upgrades that we come out with at no extra charge." By this definition "A" batteries would be upgraded to "B", "C", "D"...

It IS possible to charge at 24A from a 120V TT-30 plug...

I'll try it with my adapter as soon as I am near a 30A outlet. My car is Aug 4, 2012 so I am guessing it will not work.

It IS possible to charge at 24A from a 120V TT-30 plug...

I know you were probably just joking anyway but if you are in the desperate position of needing to charge on a 120V outlet, I am guessing that, yes indeed, 5 hours difference could be important to you (approximately 24 hours at 24A vs 29 hours at 20A for 70kW of charge). - - - Updated - - -...

Early VINs: removing the rear squishiness by upgrading suspension components

FlasherZ, thanks so much for sharing this information. This sounds like exactly what the doctor ordered. Can't wait to have it done on mine. I will note, however, that moving to a stagger (245/35/21 front, 285/30/21 rear) setup did change the behavior of my car quite a bit. Possibly it has...

Upgrade for 90 limited "A Packs" : Official answer from Jerome Guillen, VP WWSS TM

So 5.9 SC got slower for B packs? Hopefully I'm reading your charts right since you and Bluetinc used exactly opposite axes. Well, if they keep this up maybe B packs will be as slow as A packs. I'm an A pack owner. I've already gone on record as saying I would never trade the great time I...

PSS 245/35/21 front, 295/30/21 rear -- anyone tried it yet?

Interesting. I seem to have plenty of clearance with my 21" rims and 285/30 rear tires. What is your offset? Mine is 35mm (if I remember correctly). I guess the P+ suspension may result in a little less clearance... My rear rims are also 10" width. I agree that they should be OK for 295s...

PSS 245/35/21 front, 295/30/21 rear -- anyone tried it yet?

Thanks, Zextra. Definitely going to try it as soon as I am ready to upgrade the current set of tires. Nice to see an example of 295s working on the back!

PSS 245/35/21 front, 295/30/21 rear -- anyone tried it yet?

Back in November I got a stagger setup on my P85 using 21" TSW rims. I started with Hankook tires just so the rubber wouldn't be too expensive during the experimental phase. I love the setup but definitely want more traction (stickier tires). Once the Hankooks wore out my plan was to go with...

Older Teslas limited to 90kW Supercharging

I respectfully disagree, Gear. It is a negative in the sense that we thought we had the faster charging (including taper) and found out we don't. That was a negative surprise. I have not said I deserve the faster charging or made ridiculous demands that it should be given to me free. As a...
  14. G

Older Teslas limited to 90kW Supercharging

I agree that could be more relevant but the statement doesn't even acknowledge the slower taper in older cars. Kind of weird to avoid taking responsibility for something negative while taking credit for the cases where it is improved.
  15. G

Older Teslas limited to 90kW Supercharging

OK. Fair point. If that was the point then it is not terribly relevant to the question about whether a particular car can charge at 120kW or not. However, I seem to recall that even original 90kW chargers (i.e. superchargers that could only deliver a max of 90kW for one car) still had 120kW...
  16. G

Older Teslas limited to 90kW Supercharging

Oops. Sorry about trying to take credit drees! I guess I missed your post (out of the 800 out there). Still interested to see if they come clean and just admit the truth. I'm not fond of this word of mouth approach. I know, I for one, can live with the truth.
  17. G

Older Teslas limited to 90kW Supercharging

I didn't ever find a comment that went to the next step on this: 120kW actually does not allow for charging more cars per day. I noticed this immediately but hadn't seen an official announcement so was waiting to comment then. I guess enough time has gone by that the email passed around the...

    Best tire for 21's

Conti DWs are definitely quieter than the PS2s but most likely the DWs will still be louder than the 19" tires (not sure about Goodyear's but I hear the Primacy tires are quieter than all the 21" options).
  19. G

Older Teslas limited to 90kW Supercharging

My point about ambiguity is that Supercharging does not contain a number in its definition. It doesn't specify at that level. I am asserting here that by definition I have supercharging (even though I am limited to 90kW) and so does someone who can charge up to 120kW. Therefore the definition...
  20. G

Older Teslas limited to 90kW Supercharging

I'm definitely not trying to be disagreeable here. Things don't always come out the same in an email or forum thread as they do in a conversation so please don't take offense but I don't think Supercharging is ambiguous. It is not binary and never was. It was always variable. And expanding...

Older Teslas limited to 90kW Supercharging

I don't buy this argument and actually think it is strained like many of the other arguments for why Tesla should fix the early owners (I am one of them). I don't think we can create a meaningful argument for why they have to do so. And I find it unlikely that they will. It will cost them...

Musterion's New Staggered Ride (20" wheels + XPEL wrap + Opticoat + Alignment)

Your thoughts make sense to me. Overall, I agree that it makes sense to be conservative with the fronts. Getting together sometime to compare notes and wheel tire solutions sounds great. Thanks again for sharing your experiences.

    Feedback on Hankook 21s?

SoCal is the best place to have sticky performance tires. They perform well all the time, whereas in cool weather they become very slippery because they don't have much tread and the compound does not grip in colder weather. The performance tires are designed to do well in warm weather. That...

First confirmed battery swap upgrade from 60 to 85?

There is an industry analogy to this phenomenon. I recently read a report that showed that Apple makes more (gross margin dollars) on flash memory storage than all suppliers of flash memory storage combined. I am thinking it might also be true that Tesla Motors makes more money (gross margin...

    Decreasing rated range.

I should also add that I have been using my HPWC for a year now (received mine 12/20/12). In the early days I always charged at 80A and always charged every time I entered the garage. I always charged to 93% (when that was the "standard" charge). When they reduced the default to 60A for a...

Older Teslas limited to 90kW Supercharging

Well said lola. All the fun I have had with my early P85 does not somehow disappear because I don't have 120kW charging. This goes well beyond the saying "first world problems". I feel like I have temporarily violated some laws of physics or something so it is hard to complain about the tiny...

Musterion's New Staggered Ride (20" wheels + XPEL wrap + Opticoat + Alignment)

Musterion, great looking setup and one of the best write-ups I have seen. I'm one of those trying to learn how best to enhance the tires/rims and don't have time and energy to experiment as some others have done. :-) How did you decide on the front offset? The performance 21" setup has 35mm...

    Decreasing rated range.

Similar experience here. 16.5 months since I took delivery. Just over 18k miles. Just did a max charge and set it to ideal readout to remove as many variables as possible. It charged to 292. 8 miles lost in almost 1.5 years. I can live with that. I don't baby it at all but I don't max...
  30. G

    Feedback on Hankook 21s?

I wouldn't count on it. Conti 5Ps, PS2s or PSSs would probably do that. They all have stickier rubber. Contact patch is approximately the same size for all the tires mentioned. It all comes down to rubber compound. Stickier compound is generally softer but usually wears out quicker...

    Feedback on Hankook 21s?

Three comments: 1. The 285s change the dynamics with hard cornering. I assume this is more about relative cornering grip between front and rear, 2. I certainly do not think the Hankooks are stickier than true performance tires like PS2s, PSSs, 5Ps, etc. 3. Grip does not = zero wheel spin. It...

    Most common additional adapters?

You honestly have a $90k car and are concerned about how to stage the deployment of $180 in order to maximize your chances of being able to use it? Just get all 4. I'm sure you have already saved more than that in gas. I think I have a total of 12 different adapters (purchased or built) just...
  33. G

Older Teslas limited to 90kW Supercharging

Yea. However, they are producing 2x more cars every week than the total number of cars in the category of 90kW charging 85s. Statistically those 2300 cars are quickly going to become irrelevant. Building more SCs will have a lot more impact than retrofitting that small number of cars. Really...

    MS Brakes, What A Waste

Definitely agree with this. My friend bought a P85+ about a year after I got my P85. He was complaining about brake noise. I told him to do some very hard braking and that solved the problem. - - - Updated - - - Zextra, did you truly go through a set of front brake pads already? Amazing...

    Feedback on Hankook 21s?

:-) even more fun to drive with a stagger setup! As far as the spin vs no spin under hard acceleration I experience the same as you but I am not sure if that means the DWs have more grip as I feel a lot more acceleration with the Hankooks. I think the lack of grip in the DWs was causing them...

    Feedback on Hankook 21s?

Yes. I went with 21x9" front, 21x10" rear TSW Nurberbrings for the replacement rims.
  37. G

    Feedback on Hankook 21s?

I have not experienced that with the Hankooks. Again, I am comparing with stock Conti DWs. My Z06 used to hunt really bad on grooved concrete both with the Goodyear F1s and with Michelin PS Cups and PS2s. Maybe that caused me to be immune to more minor forms of hunting. Agree that stagger...

Older Teslas limited to 90kW Supercharging

Seems like a pretty lame statement. I value my time a lot more than the cost of electricity. This isn't about the cost of the energy. On the other hand I am extremely happy with my very early P85 (Aug 2012) and would certainly not go back and wait a year to get a slightly better car than the...

Seeking first hand feedback on ContiSportContact 5P tires

Thanks, Kauai! Sounds like your experience is exactly the feedback I was looking for. Definitely "suffering" from the same issue as you with my very early P85 with the bad bushings. The stagger setup has helped... I may try the 5Ps next depending on what happens with PSS availability in...

    Feedback on Hankook 21s?

I should also add that I get mild rubbing on the front tires when turning hard while backing up (only in one direction of turning). It never rubs going forward. I am assuming this is primarily due to the fact that I went with front wheels that have a 25mm offset instead of the stock 35mm...

    Feedback on Hankook 21s?

I'm happy with my Hankooks (V12). I have 21" 245 front, 285 rear. Performance is great and I would say exceeds that of the Conti DWs they replaced (stickier and less given to collapse in hard cornering under heavy acceleration -- not sure how much of that is due to the new stagger setup I...

    10-30 extension

I chose a different path to get a 3 wire solution. I just bought a 6-50 extension cord as it only has 3 conductors. Finding a 14-50P to 6-50R pigtail adapter is easy. Now you have a 3 wire fat cable without having to hack anything. The pigtail allows you to plug into a RV outlet without...

Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 vs Pilot Super Sport - Opinions Please

Thanks, Laurent. It's great to at least get some feedback. Still hoping they supply the 245/35 and 295/30 combo in 21" variety. Would be a fantastic stagger setup! Both sizes show up on the Michelin website but neither shows up on tirerack.com.

    Never been supercharged

Same here except mine is 16 months old. I live in the heartland of superchargers and have never actually used one. However, two weeks after the first one opened in Gilroy I did go down there and plug in for 5 minutes just to verify that it worked on my car (which it did). I love the...

Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 vs Pilot Super Sport - Opinions Please

Seeking first hand feedback on ContiSportContact 5P tires

I have a staggered 21" setup now on my P85 with 21x10" rear wheels and 21x9" front wheels. As soon as I run through my low cost set of Hankook V12 tires in 245/35/21 front, 285/30/21 rear I plan to go to a better tire. Since I can't get Michelin Pilot Super Sports (PSS) due to sizing I am...

Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 vs Pilot Super Sport - Opinions Please

BTW, the Michelin website actually shows the size 245/35/21 for PSS tires. They also show a 295/30/21. Once these two sizes become available those of us running a staggered 21" setup should be able to use PSS instead of PS2 at that time. Hopefully that time comes soon.

    New 20" Wheels & Tires

Dreamin, that new setup really looks outstanding. Sounds like it drives great too. Now you are making me jealous with my 21" staggered setup. I don't mind the shorter sidewalls (actually like it) but I like your rims better and the PSSs sound like the best all around tire (I guess PS2s will...
