Used Plaid market... Are 2021 Model to avoid ?

That makes more sense. That car was likely wholesaled to Carmax by Tesla. Have you ever looked up the ownership history in Autochex or Carfax?

Premium connectivity uses cellular but cellular is active regardless of premium connectivity. Simply pulling up the map and scrolling around will confirm network connection. You are correct about "by the car" being BS. I had one car physically on the east coast, one showing stuck on a freeway...

How did you decide it was a December car? Is it a long range?

Used Plaid market... Are 2021 Model to avoid ?

My comment was regarding the Plaid's that were built before the carbon trim was perfected. These have a laundry list of flaws and missing parts. Most were sold to employees and now are old enough for resale. A little more than 1000 cars in that group and the long range are harder to identify.

Bought a "Unicorn" P100D - Roast me or encourage me? Also have some questions...

You don't have to be with the car. Even if they used location services in your phone to compare locations, there are still cars I have acquired that had dead GPS, which debunks that theory. My money is on the car lacking connectivity. Have the dealer send a pic of the car renamed while also...

All I can add is avoid '21 Plaid's with wood interior trim.

Bought a "Unicorn" P100D - Roast me or encourage me? Also have some questions...

Don't worry about transfer from Tesla until you have the car in your possession. The process is simple at that point. In the app you attempt to take over the car, it will tell you a three letter name to give the car which confirms you have access to the MCU, then you photo your ID and...

Non authorized body shop and warranty

What part of the warranty are you concerned about? You can have anyone fix a fender and, unless Tesla can prove the fender repair affected a part you are attempting to get fixed under warranty, it will still be covered.

Bought a "Unicorn" P100D - Roast me or encourage me? Also have some questions...

As others have stated, the timing of this vehicle coming on the market would lead me to believe the prior owner transferred the features. However, In my recent experience buying cars SC01 cars for friends to transfer to new cars, the process was instant. The old car changed to "Pay Per Use...

Buy a New Tesla or w/significant warranty

I would hope that you didn't pay so much for a used car that it would have been financially beneficial to go new rather than pay $3000 for repairs. Anyway, you should get an independent mechanic to check out the suspension. Those parts are all available aftermarket and should be a reasonable...

Touring US with camper trailer and FUSC -- Bad Idea or Really Bad Idea?

100kWh pack fits in all 2012-2020 S & X. When installing into a pre-2016.5 car you need to replace the orange Rapid Mate top ring with the black low profile part available from Tesla Service for $4.80 (1041311-00-C). Just bolt it in and redeploy the firmware to realize the full capacity of the...

Touring US with camper trailer and FUSC -- Bad Idea or Really Bad Idea?

A '15-'16 70D or 85D with free charging would be a good, low-cost, starter platform with comparatively bulletproof motors. Then install a 100kWh battery. Salvage 100D's can be had for $8-11k and your working 70 or 85 pack will still have resale value, so potential break even less labor.

    Sold 2016 Model S 70D FUSC AP01 only 64k Miles

keysavvy.com is super easy. They act as a middleman and, for 2024, instantly credit the qualified buyer the 30% up to $4000. There are others but I only personally know of that one.

    Sold 2016 Model S 70D FUSC AP01 only 64k Miles

An MCU replaced in 2020 would not be able to leak like I see in your pictures. Was that done under warranty? I'm guessing it was the eMMC fix and not an MCU replacement, right? Have you owned it long enough for it to be eligible for the used car tax credit? If you owned it prior to August...

Should I upgrade to Plaid or keep my 2014 P85D w MCU2 and Ludicrous upgrade

Tesla does not resell cars that are over 6 years old, or have over 100k miles, via their site. Those cars are sent to Adessa, Carmax, Carvana or Vroom for exactly what they offer you.

    Upgrading my battery 2015 P90D with a 2020 LR+ 100kwh battery a good idea?

Just an extra data point for people concerned about what is possible. I recently installed a 100kWh pack from a 2018 S into my 2017 90D with coil suspension and MCU2. The software process was completed on the MCU without the use of Toolbox. The fact that I do not have air suspension had no...

$4k-$6k for all new suspension on 2016.5?

This is the China related info I was referencing. They never did this for any other market. LOL regarding China's "unique driving environment".

$4k-$6k for all new suspension on 2016.5?

Tesla has a bulletin for China to replace all the arms because they were prone to breakage at the ball joints. I had this happen to my 2017 90D. That motivated me to replace everything in my 2014's and 2015. Also the bushings wear due to age.

    High mileage 2015 90D purchase

Not going to have a motor issue on a 90D. Agree that 95k miles on a 2015 is low, not high. 2015 90 is going to be a first gen 90 HV which is sketchy.
  28. blodg1

$4k-$6k for all new suspension on 2016.5?

Typical for the SC. Get an independent mechanic quote. This is essentially Mercedes style suspension and is all available aftermarket. I replaced every arm and four struts on my S for $1100 in parts. Once done, it is like a brand new car in most cases.

Drive unit damaged after driving in heavy rain -- SC won't cover under warranty

Ouch. That is plain wrong. True the seal is not covered due to it being worn but the resulting damage is covered under the policy. Same thing if your window regulator broke and the window was stuck down due to a rain storm. The resulting damage is covered but the regulator is on you. I had...

Drive unit damaged after driving in heavy rain -- SC won't cover under warranty

Would love to see that denial letter. Mechanical failure is not covered, but damage from weather events would absolutely be covered. This is no different from hydro-locking your ICE vehicle by crossing a flooded intersection. Typically these denials are a quick reaction by individuals with...

$4400 for repairs - Advice Needed

3rd row kids seats for sale

Collision/body shop in Nor Cal that won't always order new tesla parts and charge the max possible amount?

I have a friend in the same situation right now with his 2013 S. I told him to order a new car ASAP and transfer the free charging before the car is officially a total loss. He decided on a base Highland which will be an upgrade and not super expensive. Another option is to have the shop...

    DIY Tesla Drive Unit Repair

Nice work. I think a one piece design would be simpler. It would also make me more confident that the lower passage would be better sealed when not relying on only two fasteners.

As owners, any chance we will ever get the opportunity to buy the full diagnostics suite that their service centers have access to? And why not?

Unlikely to ever get the full version of Toolbox. It contains diagnostics of every issue anyone has ever presented to Tesla, some including video and audio. Many without resolution.

    [Question] Toolbox Charger config ?

That is for 2012-16 Model S. With that gateway access and the right parts, you will be able to add or remove a second charger in those cars. Single charger cars can charge at 40A and dual at 80A.
