It didn’t happen every time, but it happened quite often. They ended up replacing the super manifold components and lines which fixed it.

It's really easy to remove the seat backs. I remember they pop out after pulling off the headrest. Once you get them off you can isolate the noise and stuff some cloth/velcro in there to eliminate the noise. My noise went away by doing this, but has come back again so I'll be doing it again...

I ended up taking off the seat back and wedging a couple thin pieces of cloth between the areas where the seat bottom/backs come together. It was a super simple fix and has eliminated the noise.

Yep a third compressor! They discovered the manifold caused the second replacement to fail quickly. They noted a PRV was blown. So a new compressor, manifold and discharge lines. They confirmed the sound the car was making was abnormal.

It turned out to be an issue with the super manifold and discharge lines that was causing the compressor to fail.

@STS-134 Thanks for the detailed write-up and additional info! That's helpful to get a better understanding on how the heat pump system works. My only concern is that the noise seems to have presented itself just over the past few months ... whereas before that, and the previous winter in 2020...

Lately my car has been making a very loud vibrating/groaning noise after the heat is turned on. It usually lasts a few seconds and then goes away, but is extremely loud and annoying. Tesla service replaced the heat pump, but that didn't have any affect on the noise. This is my second winter...

Did you end up finding a fix for this vibration noise? My car does the same thing ... they replaced the heat pump but that didn't affect it. After the car has been sitting for a while, and then the heat is turned on it will groan/vibrate very loudly.

I also have a similar vibration noise after turning on the heat when the car has been sitting for a while. They installed a new heat pump but that didn't fix it. Can anyone post a video of their noise?

I’m sitting in my Model Y with the heat set at 70 degrees. Every minute there is a short “whooosh” noise coming from behind the dash. Anyone know if this is normal and what is causing it? Should I schedule a service appointment? I remember it did this last winter as well.
