    Most efficientbsetting for heat pump?

Yeah, it seems so. Running high will increase temp faster at a somewhat higher consumption, but at steady state high and low will behave similar.

    Most efficientbsetting for heat pump?

I visited a friend with Model Y, entered the service mode and got some answears :) Fanspeed is somewhat linked to compressor rpm. For instance at 21C auto high fanspeed ran compressor at 6000 rpm, low ran it at 4500. In manual mode fanspeed of 1 ran it at 2800-3300rpm, fanspeed of 6 at...

    Most efficientbsetting for heat pump?

Yes :) auto. I aint got heat pump in my model 3, this is just out of curiosity :)

    Most efficientbsetting for heat pump?

My initial qeurstion was how running fanspeed on lo, med or high affects efficiency and longevity of components :)

    Most efficientbsetting for heat pump?

Ofcourse, but I was curious which of the claims were correct :)

    Most efficientbsetting for heat pump?

The geekninside wants to know. I dont have a Y with heat pump now.

    Most efficientbsetting for heat pump?

    Preserving hardware and efficiency :)

    Most efficientbsetting for heat pump?

After some conflicting info on heat pump efficiency/longevity I ask the experts here: Claim 1: Running the heat pump at low fan setting (comfort aside) is more efficient as less air needs to be heated cooled. Some observations in servicemode where lower fanspeed equals lower compressor rpm...

LFP battery, charge to 100% each night?

It's not a common problem, but if you partially charge them for long periods of time, the BMS has more trouble reading actual SOC due to same voltage at low and high SOC. Chineese owners has reported this isdue, but Tesla may have found ways to read SOC in other ways than rely on voltage to fix...

LFP battery, charge to 100% each night?

I would charge it to 100% atleast once a month, but except for that charge it to the level you need. The longevity of a LFP is about the same sitting at 100% as it is at 50%. A NCA\NMC degrades significantly if left at 100% for long periods, but thrives at 20-60%.
  12. taraquin

LFP battery, charge to 100% each night?

Point of charging a LFP to 100% regularely is to balance the battery as the BMS can struggle with estimating true range since voltage curve is flat. It`s much easier on NMC\NCA where for instance 4.2V is 100%, 4.0V is 80% etc. On LFP 30 and 100% both can be 3.4V so unless you charge it to 100%...
  13. taraquin

LFP battery, charge to 100% each night?

Thing about LFP is that they have a flat voltage curve and usually maxes out at around 3.4V-ish so at 30% or 100% they can be 3.4V. High voltages over time is a reason for concern, on NCA and NMC 4.2V is typically max,, especially in high temps and can cause degradation on most types of li-ion...

    2021.4.12

It's always been like that. Long periods of regen will be restricted if soc is high, but charging can occur at higher rate over time. Tesla probably have their reasons.
  15. taraquin

    2021.4.12

This happends when soc is high when going downhill. I always had this in my TMS and now my TM3. The higher the soc, the shorter period you can sustain high regen even if batterytemp is fine. If your soc was 20% there would not gave been any restrictions on regen. After the 4.11/12 update it...
  16. taraquin

    2021.4.12

Any S/X owners here? Got improved regen in cold after update? Battery chemistry is very similar between S/X and 3/Y, main difference is less cobolt in latter, but I would guess the should behave similar in low temps.
  17. taraquin

    2021.4.12

I know lower soc allows for more regen at lower temp. Was your reading cell temp min or avg? It seems like the regen with cold battery is burst-mode, I also noticed that regen drops when going down long hills if battery is cold. This can explain why SC is not that much better at low temps.
  18. taraquin

    2021.4.12

As you can see on the curve he linked to the car now accepts some regen even when celltemp min is -1,5C, but no regen below -1.5C. 0C cell temp min gives 15-20kW regen.
  19. taraquin

    2021.4.12

Here is a report of the similar 2021.4.11 update and regen from a guy who used SMT. If cell min temp is above -1.5C you now get regen. It's short term as driving down long hills will restrict regen if battery is cold. As for charging it seems battery must be closer to 5C to be able to charge...

Model 3 SR+ (Europe) No Heat Pump?

Several times when driving in rain air-direction changes from windows to driver only at auto, and windows fog up. My uncle with TM3 has experienced the same and stopped using auto. Even if you change air-direction towards driver front window still fogs up.
  21. taraquin

Model 3 SR+ (Europe) No Heat Pump?

Thing about AUTO in TM3 is that the comfort is often poor. I have experienced windows fogging because climate send air directly to driver at 6xfanspeed which is actually uncomfortable. A comfortable manual setting is 3xfan to driver and windows and even then consumption is generelly lower than...

Model 3 SR+ (Europe) No Heat Pump?

It`s not necessary, but it will improve range in winter significantly. The point of a heat pump is not heating the car fast but using less energy. At auto setting the climate-consumption in winter in the TM3 is terrible. If you set it to manual and run fans at for instance 2 x vs windows and...

    Battery heating while preconditioning cabin

No to be a prick, but it?s coolant which stays liquid far below freezing :) TMS\TMX has a dedicated heater which can use 3 or 6kW to heat battery. In TM3 each motor generates 3,5-4kW of waste heat to warm coolant and then battery. On the RWD-models it seems a maximum of 3,5-4kW is used...

    Battery heating while preconditioning cabin

Jalatontarzan: If at home you can preheat the car by opening one door slightly and turning on climate. No battery heating, only cabin then. Also try setting fan at 1 or 2, point to windows only and turn off ac if weather is dry. This reduced consumption while driving a lot while still...

    Battery heating while preconditioning cabin

TM3 does not show the battery-heater icon. Only TMS and TMX does this when the battery heater element is active. On TM3\Y I have never seen that icon even though motor(S) are running to heat the battery. As for powerdraw, it only draws up to 14kW for a short time. The most I have seen climate...

Model Y vs Model 3 HVAC energy comparison.

I think that in cold winter without preheating the 3 and Y can be quite similar. However, if you preheat both or use SC on long trips the Y would be far superior as it can transfer heat from the coolant loop. Long SC-charging can bring batterytemp to 40-50C. That is a lot of heat that is usable...

Model 3 Regeneration vs. Temperature & Accessory Consumption

If temps are around 50F or below you can probably see it now aswell since the car engages the motor for preheating even now. It's been around 5-10C at night were I live now for a few weeks ans when I preheat the motor usually starts to heat battery. Since the battery is only 2/3 in size and...

Model 3 Regeneration vs. Temperature & Accessory Consumption

It would not surprice me if Tesla found a way to send regen steaight to stators, this would also aid braking as energy is being recovered. I hope they actually do this :) One thing that puzzles me is that li-ion batteries can charge/regen below 0C without lithoum plating, but you have to...

Why does AC activate in cold weather?

I'm aware of AC being ysed to redyce humidity, but the auto setting is very counterintuitive at times when windows fog up even with ac on since it prefers to blow air in your face/feet instead of windows. Usually setting air to windiws without ac is much more effienct ar clearing fig than auto...

Why does AC activate in cold weather?

Actually it seems like blue means active. I see that in both summer and extreme cold when recirculation toggles on and off and AC toggles of if very cold.
  32. taraquin

Why does AC activate in cold weather?

Probably wrong season, but noticed in the winter than hvac enable AC at low temp even in dry conditions. Why is this? I generally used manual and turned of AC as consumption was quite a bit higher. Even in light rain windows don't fog without AC. In heavy rain or high temps AC is required, but I...

    New Lifepo4 battery for M3

LiFePO4-batteries have several advantages over NCA: - Better safety (tolerates far higher temp before thermal runaway) - Better lifespan (2000 full cycles vs 500 on NCA) - Better performance at low soc since they operate at 3.2V until nearly depleted - Better lifespan when stored at high...

Model 3 Regeneration vs. Temperature & Accessory Consumption

I wrote a post about that a couple of months ago. That when the car dont have enough regen due to low temp the motor could generate waste heat, 7kW in the Model 3, which especially in long down hills can conyribute quite a bit. Really cool if Tesla actually has implemented that in TM3 :)
  36. taraquin

Model 3 Regeneration vs. Temperature & Accessory Consumption

what happends when driving if temp target is not achieves during preheat? Does it actively heat battery while driving aswell with stators? Or just passive?
  37. taraquin

Model 3 Regeneration vs. Temperature & Accessory Consumption

According to Teslabjørn stators are rarely active when preheating except when navigating to SC. It seem like stators preheat battery, but remain inactive while driving. Smart behaviour which gives a low powercobsumption while actually driving.

Why does Tesla use a Resistance Heater instead of Heat Pump

Hmm, those weather-reports you linked to on Værnes are way of. In 2010 which was a colder than avg, avg temp in January was 16F. https://seklima.met.no/observations/ Your site reports avg temps higher than what we have here. Don't know where they get their data, but they might be right where you...

Why does Tesla use a Resistance Heater instead of Heat Pump

You are right, I thought green bay was comparable to Trondheim. We live some hours north of Trondheim, more inland. Why does Tesla use a Resistance Heater instead of Heat Pump

I live in Norway so worse off than you tempwise ;) As I said this would mostly apply when SC or using fast home chargers, in general on longer trips when you need range the most.
  41. taraquin

Why does Tesla use a Resistance Heater instead of Heat Pump

Not saying it's the best solution, but it's Teslas patent and maybe easier to implement than a traditional heat pump, thpugh generally not as efficient in the 10C to - 5C where a heatpump shines.
  42. taraquin

Why does Tesla use a Resistance Heater instead of Heat Pump

Using wasteheat from the coolant loop like the Tesla patent from 2012ish would be my hopes for Model Y. On long trips with supercharging the coolant often rises above 40C, that is a lot of heat that goes to waste in the S3X, if the spare heat could be used to heat cabin it will improve...

    Battery life seems way off?

Do you use winter tires or all season? Many summer and all season tires becomes really stiff at low temps which often increases rolling resistance a lot. Several consumption comparisons between Nokian R2 winter tires and Goodyear RS-A2 all seasons on my Model S showed that at 15C+ (55-60F+)...

    Battery life seems way off?

If temps are above freezing and it is sunny then probably yes, problem is heat loss through glass which occurs most of the time unless temp in sun close to what your preferred interior temp is. In winter, sun is liw and insulation of roof would do little to hinder heat from sun through glass...

    Battery life seems way off?

A problem with 3 is the glass roof. Getting sunblock kit from ebay and adding some insulation can help. Watch Teslabjorns videos. He only insulated top roof. Kits from ebay can be used to insulate almost all of the glass roof at the back aswell. Turning of rear heating might help a bit aswell...

    Battery life seems way off?

Max output of heater is 7kW if that is what you meant. From what I understand it will only operate at that if climate is set to HI. Atleast in Model S climate rarely uses more than 5kW, but turn on HI and it can use almost 7kW. Remember that batteryheating of 7kW can kick in aswell if very cold...

Battery Heater Not Enabling via App

Several people on other forums said they had been in contact with Tesla and SC said they were aware of it and was promised a fix within a 'few' weeks, whatever that means.

Battery Heater Not Enabling via App

Tesla has confirmed that it will send a fix soon from what I've heard. It appears like these new SWs have adapted the heating behaviour of the Model 3s battery, but the Model 3 has far better regen in cold weather so it's not goid at all for S and X.
