    Articles/megaposts by DaveT

Re the revised estimate of 34k delivered.... Elon in Germany recently (and casually, I thought) mentioned deliveries of 32-33K which has been bugging me ever since. The market will not be happy if those really turn out to be the numbers.

    Tesla Supercharger network

Also rather astounding: Rancho Cucamonga already in the Top 10 SuperChargers around the world, when it just opened. Just goes to show how crazy dense Southern California is with Model S's. Also astounding that SJC is #2, and now beat out Fremont. Man, SJC is to be avoided....too busy, too...

    Short-Term TSLA Price Movements - 2014

Maybe Elon's going to pull a fast one and do something bold and unveil the Model X at CES in Las Vegas the week before, unbeknownst to everyone, thus pre-empting the entire NAIAS convention, and winding up owning the CES news cycle and drowning out NAIAS?

Supercharger - Rancho Cucamonga, CA (12 V2 stalls)

The opening of Rancho Cucamonga makes it tempting to explore alternative routes that avoid LA altogether. For instance, for northbound journeys, San Diego > Rancho Cucamonga > Tejon > Harris Ranch > etc. Admittedly not a practical route, but perhaps more scenic and less stop-and-go.

Stock's plummeting, P85D customers up in arms, and Elon is tweeting about old sci-fi books. What is wrong with this picture.

    Short-Term TSLA Price Movements - 2014

Ah, yes, the winding roads up to Skyline, that used to be fun until motorcyclists, bicyclists, and crazy drivers decided the posted speed limit could be ignored so they could turn the road into a personal Le Mans. Hence, why I gave up taking drives up to Skyline. Too many maniacs. But I digress...

Supercharger - El Centro, CA (8 V2 stalls)

Great to see the progress! Soooo close! Can't wait to see it open up. p.s. I do so hope they put up large signs in each spot saying these are Tesla only, EV only, charging only, no ICE welcome, etc.

    EV'd

What I wanna see is something I call a "Quick and EV" -- think an AMPM Mini Mart Gas Station except with SuperChargers or L2/DC Fast Charge chargers instead of gas pumps. We'll know EV's are here to stay when all along the interstates there are Quick and EVs, some even with mini Subways and...

    Tracking P85D delivery thread

Tesla wants to provide a great customer experience and earn a great reputation for its brand. Fine. But the customer experience does not start with the car, it starts way before then, and it includes everything a buyer has to go through to get their car -- not just ordering online, but...

Does Mr. Chowdhry have actual facts or is he only speculating as to the meaning of the 242? It sounds like Mr. Chowdhry has been reading the TMC forum over the past 24 hours, where many of these bullet points were brought up. But it's all speculation, no matter how reasonable. Tesla Motors has...

San Diego Area Superchargers (location speculation)

I've contacted the city offices to find out how exactly one can find permits filed by any particular company. This being San Diego, they'll prolly respond saying I need a FOIA, but we'll see.

    Brake Light Animation?

At night I just leave the live rear video screen on, and marvel, then cringe, at how often the brake lights go on and off and on and off as I do the slightest acceleration/deceleration-regen as traffic conditions warrant. I can only imagine what the driver behind me is thinking -- geez, this guy...

    Bad replacement wiper blades

I got new blades at my 1yr service back in Sept, after noticing The Streak right in the middle of the driver's side of windshield for a long while. Since then, The Streak has returned -- occasionally. It's weird. We just had a lot of rain in CA, and it worked well in the rain. It's when the...

Out of warranty concerns about Tesla

I had clunk sounds like that, as well as the loud hum/moaning at 70+ mph, and after complaining about it for about a year, they finally agreed to do a drive unit swap. In the ~4 months since, with the new drive unit, I have had no moan/hum nor any clunk. Fingers crossed that the problem was...

    Ah, interesting, ok.
  31. B

Just a warning to new Tesla owners!

See, this points to an issue that I wish Tesla would address. I would like Tesla to aggregate data from Model S's traveling between superchargers, and take into account weather (temp, wind, precipitation) and topography conditions, as well as speed, SOC, and energy use. Mix that all together...

    Short-Term TSLA Price Movements - 2014

What's on my mind in terms of short-term TSLA price movements this month: • How much of the factory is scrambling to get the P85Ds out? • What percentage of Q4 deliveries are P85Ds? • How much is Tesla counting on the higher ASP of Q4 P85D sales to boost their Q4 results? • At what point...

Supercharger - San Juan Capistrano, CA (7 V2 stalls)

Wouldn't be surprised if many (all?) of the signs are mounted in the walls of garages in people's homes. Question is, are there Teslas in any of those garages or not.
  35. B

Supercharger - San Juan Capistrano, CA (7 V2 stalls)

I blame Tesla. The SJC site is #fail. I would rather it'd been located out in the middle of nowhere not near any services or shops at all. Putting SuperChargers in an already over-tasked strip mall parking lot was a recipe for nothing but hassle and delays.

Harris Ranch is getting first battery swap station

Not for me. When I see a Tesla press release announcing a Harris Ranch battery swap then I'll believe it. I see nothing so far that's anything but a car wash refurb.

    Bjørn's Tesla Model S videos

I thought it was a very thorough review and I hope, seriously, that decision-makers at Tesla Motors not only watch it but act on some if not all of the suggestions Bjorn makes. And he's right, car magazine reviews are nothing compared to a 57-minute year-long 90km review.

StreetInsider, that bastion of objective and reliable journalism, goes one further and says If you click on the "prior" statements it makes none, but relies on Der Spiegel.
  41. B

    Bjørn's Tesla Model S videos

That's a dangerous video. Dangerous because Model S owners who don't own those newer features are gonna want 'em after seeing the video, and that could wind up meaning time to trade in the old for a newer car! :-)

San Diego Area Superchargers (location speculation)

"Reasonable location" if you have an ICE car and like parking in SuperCharger spaces and disappearing for hours. Ok, I'm done. I've stated my concerns. I'd rather Tesla put the chargers up in the empty parking lot across from Qualcomm than put 'em in the Sorrento Court parking lot. Sorrento...

San Diego Area Superchargers (location speculation)

So here is 5638 Morehouse Drive. It's in the heart of the Qualcomm office park. First you drive up a little hill if coming from the west. Welcome to 5638. There's nothing there. It's an empty parking lot across the street from Qualcomm's main complex. Vast emptiness. Looking back to...

San Diego Area Superchargers (location speculation)

It's not just rush hour traffic. It's a very heavily congested area. Lunch hour is insane. If this SuperCharger location is the real deal, and it is anywhere near a food court or other amenities, I guarantee there will be insane ICE problems with the charger spots. If it is located off the...

    Black p85 loaded

I'm curious. That cars.com listing says it has "CD [Single Disc]". Tesla Model S's don't have CD players do they? Mine certainly doesn't. Where would it go?
  48. B

San Diego Area Superchargers (location speculation)

Exactly. THAT makes sense. But while QualComm has the billions to pay for its own SuperCharger it makes no sense to situate one there.
  49. B

San Diego Area Superchargers (location speculation)

Sounds like a private Qualcomm thing, not a real SuperCharger. It's not "just off I-805"... it's in the middle of a congested office park area. No way does that make sense for travelers. Traffic is a nightmare all through that area during morning, lunchtime, and afternoon. I'm skeptical...
