    Steering Assist Reduced

Picked th car up today. It was apparently the steering rack controller (electronics) which was intermittently failing to wake up so had obviously developed some fault. This is attached to, and an integral part, of the steering rack which was therefore all changed. The mechanic said the rack will...

Well I am going to pick it up tomorrow and will get more info then, but in the end they replaced the steering rack. I will update again if any new interesting info comes to light.

    Steering Assist Reduced

I am not sure there was much or any real evidence for the firmware theory. I think as the fault occurred on the same day as the fault it lead him to this theory that they were related. As I hinted at above I am not at all sure the timings were quite right and specifically that the 2nd firmware...

Well feedback on this issue with my Model 3. According to the Glasgow Tesla mechanic looking at my car this issue looks like it was a firmware update not completing correctly. After it was installed it failed to reboot part of the electronics/computer which that left that part 'hungup', it not...

    Steering Assist Reduced

So my Model 3 2021 AWD LR has gone into the Glasgow Tesla Service centre to be fixed and it should all be under the 4 year warranty. Fortunately it was working again (i.e. intermittent fault) so I could drive it up there myself without any problem. I have a loaner Model 3 from them whilst it is...

Well they don't work very well then as I have tried to drive my Tesla Model 3 with failed PS and its a nightmare at low speed.

This does not appear to provide confirmation of any such test - in fact it surely makes matters even worse: "Advancing technology, coupled with the wish to improve occupant safety by elimination of the mechanical steering column, and the production advantages associated with easier transfer of...

Power steering has gone and its going to cost me to get it to Tesla Service...

In my opinion there should be a standard test that cars need to pass that they are still safe/manageable to drive (for 90%+ of drivers) to allow the driver to at least drive to a a safe place to park up in case of a failure of the PS. I am not aware any such test exists in the UK/EU/US. I...

I hate take issue with you on this but this is clearly an inaccurate statement. It all depends upon the strength and fitness of the driver and the weight of the car. Put an 70 year old 5ft 50Kg women behind a Bentley Continental with no power steering and I would be surprised if she could make...

    Steering Assist Reduced

Interesting news article indeed! Re steering ground/electrics - this looks appropriate YT: Where is the Steering Rack grounded on a Tesla Model 3? If I look into this on my car do I just power down (Controls > Safety > Power Off) the car and then good to go?

OK got you - that is what I am requesting. The loan car is slowing things down as well as Tesla's own service process. I may actually drive it in now as currently the PS is working again (touch wood) - but they still need to sort the loan car.

I missed this post. I can't really just turn up (tow truck or driving) at Glasgow SC as I need to arrange a loan car with them if at all possible that I pick up at the same time (being 85 miles away). Also they then said as I am over 50 miles blah blah - this turned out to be incorrect but took...

    Steering Assist Reduced

I have just started having similar problem with the Power Steering intermittently failing (UI_a020 "Steering Assist Reduced"). I am unfortunately 90 miles away from a service centre so its no easy to just drop it in and pick it up. Do you know whether there is anyway for me to check for this...

Just as an FYI for anyone else it a similar position - I tried moving it from my drive and at low speed it is almost impossible to turn the steering wheel other than very very slowly. It is incredibly heavy at low speed. Around towns and cities I think it would be simply dangerous.

I am on the line to them now and they appear to be accepting the 500 mile limit (once I pointed them to their own policy document!). I don't think they would argue that safety is not a real issue for an 80 mile trip on motorways and driving through the city of Glasgow. I may well try and drive...

Well rolling back to 1.25.0 has indeed brought the :4000 site back and it looks like it is now getting updated again as the firmware revision shows what I have just downloaded to on the Tesla today. The car has been out and about and just had a firmware update today. None of this appears on Teslamate and yes I am using a Pi. Sharing google destination and setting Home location issues

I am generally very happy with my Tesla LR (MIC) apart from one service center issues (intermittent fault with computer). UK Electricity Generation Carbon Intensity Footprint

Agreed underfloor makes sense for new builds, but just doing new builds will barely scratch the surface of the problem (climate change) though, and certainly not in the time frame required. Not so sure of about not adding much cost - a heat pump installation and underfloor heating for a whole...

UK Electricity Generation Carbon Intensity Footprint

I am not aware of this 2023 ban date (in the UK) - can you provide a gov link to this? Even the 2025 gas boiler ban is only for new builds. Heat pumps will be expensive to install in new builds (in comparison) and very expensive to convert existing installs (£5,000 to £10,000 for the heat pump...

Tesla Model 3 not powering up

If this is very uncommon amongst Tesla owners it would still suggest a fault which might be worth speaking to Tesla SC about. However I guess it is not too hard to live with either.

UK Electricity Generation Carbon Intensity Footprint

I think when it comes down to green electricity the UK needs an overhaul. There is the problem of many "100% renewable electricity" providers not by any means using 100% renewable energy. They achieve this by using REGOs (Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin) which are traded rather like carbon...

Tesla Model 3 not powering up

I just want to add that I am sure few people consider it, but the support from the community (e.g. this forum) is such a big plus when buying a Tesla. Tesla Model 3 not powering up

The 1st line support guy asked me to check whether it would go into drive in the situation where it was dead. Tesla Model 3 not powering up

Just an update on this. Tesla are going to swap out the main CPU board in the car. They are picking my car up from my house (and leaving a spare) to take back to Edinburgh and I will then drive to SC to pick up when done. So far a very good experience dealing with SC/Tesla over this.
