You are correct - R1S would for sure be a more direct comparison. Three reasons I went with the R1T: I have read that the R1T rides better; I actually liked the looks on the R1T better; to move up on the timeline.

As above, it does work. But, it still not a good solution. You might be trying to swerve away from a car while simultaneously hitting the horn. This method still requires you to "find" the horn area, as opposed to mashing the center, which is always in the same place.
