    Aggressive Behaviour towards EV's

This has been doing the rounds today. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13570225/amp/New-zealand-carjacker-fails-steal-Tesla-not-knowing-open-door-handles.html

Tesla Software Updates for Model 3 New Zealand

Haha i don’t feel special! Now that its colder it actually is a good prompt for me to pre-condition the cabin and that usually works!

Tesla Software Updates for Model 3 New Zealand

I am unsure if it is the front or rear camera that triggers it, the message is generic. I have had the harness already replaced previously as part of the recall

Tesla Software Updates for Model 3 New Zealand

I have an entirely different bug that’s been present for a few updates now. Dashcam won’t switch on, shows a red X icon on the app when starting journeys. “Dashcam unavailable, check usb” when tapped. A reboot solves it but it happens at next startup again. I noticed that it seems ok when the...

    Delivery shenanigans.

Can’t say that’s the experience i’ve had with Wellington SC in the 4 years i’ve had my car. I had the rear left light replaced due to condensation while under warranty and the replacement had the same issue a few months ago post warranty and after the typical parts warranty period. They...

    Delivery shenanigans.

75k on original tyres! How good? I’m just about to buy my 4th set at 116k kms. Can probably stretch it to 120k but its winter and the whole family drives the Model 3 now.

    Welcome officially to Tesla ownership.

Power cuts likely in the morning.

Usually the offered generation is based on historical load requirements at this time of the year. There is an unseasonably cold snap moving across NZ. …the point of the Transpower warning is to inform generators that there is insufficient offered generation for tomorrow’s morning peak. The...

    Supercharger - Waitomo

Yeah i wouldn’t risk getting door dinged at places like the warehouse for ~$2 worth of free juice.
  14. M

    Supercharger - Waitomo

Just go straight to powerswitch. https://www.powerswitch.org.nz/ If you decide to switch from your current provider to whoever is recommended then the process will handle the changeover easy. I’ve done this twice now and its much more painless than feared.

    Supercharger - Waitomo

Shop around, some electricity companies give you the benefit of DCFC cost at the same rate as your home. In my case Genesis EVGo plan means i can use Chargenet and get charged 14c/kWh.

Electric vehicle rebate and 'ute tax' killed off in December 2023

when did you receive your new Tesla?
  17. M

Electric vehicle rebate and 'ute tax' killed off in December 2023

Obviously not everyone is switching to EV’s overnight. You do realise peak demand is between 7-10am and 4-8pm. The rest of the time the grid just hums along normally, this is when charging EVs makes the most of those spinning turbines which need to keep going otherwise the grid gets into...

Electric vehicle rebate and 'ute tax' killed off in December 2023

It’s worth reading through the Waka Kotahi consultation paper that makes some recommendations on how RUC could be implemented better - last review was 2012 but the new government has taken the easy option and not considered any of it. https://www.transport.govt.nz/assets/Uploads/RUCDD-2022.pdf

Confirming that Boombox update works, thanks Elon.

    Model 3 Highland test drive

After watching so many videos I now constantly try and tap the space in my steering wheel to simulate the new model. Seems easy enough after a while. I suppose most people who complain about the lack of stalks are the same people who will never buy an EV anyway.

    Model 3 Highland test drive

Saw one in Wellington today. Saw the side profile before i noticed the front, looks smart with the new face.

I got it this morning, just waiting to install now. Keen to see if those of us with Boombox get the updated lock sound.

Electric vehicle rebate and 'ute tax' killed off in December 2023

I really don’t understand the move to fund charging infrastructure instead. As per the article with the study i posted above, charging infrastructure was low on the list of issues to adoption. Companies like Z and BP were already building up a good network on top of the work Tesla and Chargenet...

    Supercharger - Taihape

The Mangaweka SC is actually one of my favourites when driving through. Roughly 2 hours from Wellington so the perfect stop, imho. If you haven’t tried their lasagna or meat pies, i highly recommend Hopefully Taihape becomes the non-Tesla option and Mangaweka stays open for Teslas only

    New Zealand Road Trips

Model 3 SR+ config. Based in Wellington with all the hills that really challenge overall efficiency. Original set lasted 37k, about 137 wh/km 2nd set was Michelin Premacy PS approx 38k and that increased overall to 141 wh/km I guess the Contis are more grippy = less efficient so far.
  28. M

    New Zealand Road Trips

Not a road trip - but a whole bunch! Ticked over 100,000kms in just over 3 years - ours is a Sept 2020 delivery. 149 wh/km lifetime On the 3rd set of tyres now Wipers and air filter have been the only maintenance besides the well known warranty fixes. Efficiency seems to have been worse...

How many Tesla's in New Zealand

I really hope the consultants at Waka Kotahi are preparing some good options for implementing RUCs for EVs that isn’t just a blanket set and forget populist move to make the farmers happy. We just need the next big oil shock that sends 91 to $3.50 to even it all out again hahaha

    Model 3 AWD Tyre Life

Wow how are you folks with M3P’s achieving 50-60k on your tyres? I have a RWD and now on my 3rd set. First two sets got approx 38k kms and the current set is at 23k kms. I was also diligently rotating every 10k ish.
  31. M

Electric vehicle rebate and 'ute tax' killed off in December 2023

It was always a populist move imo. I mean calling it a ute tax was quite a smart way to oppose it. Also, by saying that the feebate system has costed money rather than being neutral before letting it actually start paying back the initial funding, the new govt has effectively accepted the loss...

PWS retrofit on pre-2023 Model 3 in NZ

The reverse sounds is much more obvious than the forward sound. In wide open spaces i hardly hear the forward noise at all. The reverse works as it should which is to provide warning to oblivious pedestrians. I was told that the current SW is not configurable, its only on or off but knowing...

Model 3 performance or Model 3 Long range (Highlander)

We will see it eventually. Seems like a page out of a legacy auto keeping their halo model away until the lower end models have had their time in the limelight.

PWS retrofit on pre-2023 Model 3 in NZ

I was told that newer 2023 Model 3s already have the PWS installed and activated. No idea when the change was made though. Unsure if this is also the case with Model Y, check with your adviser?

PWS retrofit on pre-2023 Model 3 in NZ

You can use the app to speak through the car 😂
  37. M

PWS retrofit on pre-2023 Model 3 in NZ

Yes i can talk via the app when sentry is on or via the boombox if i am in the car. The sound is robotic if that is what you were asking. 🤖
  38. M

PWS retrofit on pre-2023 Model 3 in NZ

There is a sound emitted from the PWS for both forward and reverse. The forward sound deactivates at around 20kph and is noticeably quieter than the reversing sound. The external sound is like a spaceship 😂 and not beeping.
  39. M

PWS retrofit on pre-2023 Model 3 in NZ

Raise a service request for ‘something else’ and state that you want to retrofit the PWS. The change in horn (eg fart) is only temporary while in P. It will default back to the normal horn spound when you are driving. None of the other features work while the car is moving.

PWS retrofit on pre-2023 Model 3 in NZ

It was $320 all up. Tried ordering on the Maccas drive-thru using the megaphone but there is a 1/2 second delay which was hilarious.

PWS retrofit on pre-2023 Model 3 in NZ

Hi All, has anyone paid for the retrofit PWS speaker and boombox activation? I got a quote from Tesla to get this done and for the lols i’m happy to pay. However they did caution that once it is fitted, the PWS noise cannot be changed or volume changed without a service visit. Also something...

Second failed WOF in 2 years (2019 Tesla Model 3)

That worries me, i’ve had both of the front suspension components replaced under warranty in 2021 and 2022 but i’m out of warranty at 3 years old. My original wof is due next month.

The worst of all worlds - Police to use BMW i4s

Hey guys, i’m actually involved in this work and as a long time EV owner and early Model 3 owner i can say i was sceptical until i learned more. There is a lot more to operational requirements than just outright performance (speed) or range. I obviously can’t divulge details but there is quite...

Tyre shop for lift kit installation

Not sure if they have lifted a Tesla but i have seen them install lift kits on plenty of utes and lowered plenty of Teslas Autostance. Btw, is this what you are trying to achieve? Spotted in Akaroa a few months back.

    Sentry mode battery drain?

Thanks, I thought that there is a correlation to more battery use if there are more events as the lights would be flashing more, therefore more battery drain.
  50. M

    Sentry mode battery drain?

I noticed in the energy chart that Sentry used up 4.8% of the battery in 2 hours while parked however no sentry events recorded so its not like it was busy. That seems excessive so maybe something new.
