All US Cars capable of FSD will be enabled for one month trial this week

The point of ideal FSD is that you shouldn't have to have great reaction time. That's the point of it if it ever actually works but it is so very, very far off the mark at this point. So many Tesla folks, especially on this forum, have drunk the koolaid.

All US Cars capable of FSD will be enabled for one month trial this week

I appreciate your post but it's NOT GREAT when FSD does the negative things you write - and I believe most of us have experienced. There is NOTHING great about creating serious safety issues, accidents and putting others at risk on the road.

All US Cars capable of FSD will be enabled for one month trial this week

This was a big WTF day for me. I got the email about FSD trial but could never have imagined this was not an opt in. I thought I was putting my car in TA cruise control, as usual, and had NO idea the damn car was going to be in FSD without my knowledge or consent in heavy traffic. I'm not...

Late winter California Road Trip, 2024

For many of us So Cal residents ... well ... the Salton Sea area is considered a real sh!thole. Nice pics by vanjwilson making it look good. I will continue to avoid (though found myself out there on my bicycle once and paid a big "red neck" price for that little experience). Borrego Springs...

New 2024 Tesla Tire Repair Kit

OK, so reading many other threads on the subject: that goop does not work with foamed tires (sound insulation) and apparently tesla service has confirmed that. So, you ruin your TPMS sensor, your wicked expensive clothes (mine being my $10 t-shirt and ancient jeans), and you're no further down...

New 2024 Tesla Tire Repair Kit

probably a subject of another thread but those $15 sensors were not an option for my 2014 MS. They do not work. Many threads and online discussion (plus Tesla service) confirms this.

New 2024 Tesla Tire Repair Kit

The concern will start when they have to replace those wickedly expensive sensors (as I found out with my 2014 MS). Maybe they're cheaper now ?? I do get it that being stranded is a nightmare. Might be good that people know that stuff could cost them $$$ and maybe the instructions say so...

New 2024 Tesla Tire Repair Kit

"Tire Repair Kit includes an air compressor, a storage bag, and a bottle of sealant": Doesn't sealant damage the TPMS? If not, that's all I'll need to get as my 12v air compressor works great and cost me $25 - and is now $21 on Amazon.

    New Hampshire I-89

I decided to do my first auto steer experiment on empty I-91 in Vermont on a Sunday morning. Utter failure when the car was confused between the freeway and an exit thus steering me into dirt between the two. It was terrifying. That ended that experiment and I will never, ever use autosteer...

    No rear tow hook?

Wow, how could anyone know this would be useless if tow hitch is installed? I got stuck in deep snow and CHP and I couldn't understand what this "hole" was if not for tow capabilities. Instead we used my attached bike rack hitch - less than ideal and certainly not intended for towing but there...

    Best Mud Flaps Head-to-Head comparison?

thanks for the info. might not work well in deep snow. I did order them figuring $40 no big deal. I'm in San Diego but thanks for the offer.

    Best Mud Flaps Head-to-Head comparison?

After washing my car today I noticed a whole lotta small paint chipped damage along the bottom edges of the doors. Not so much on the rear behind the rear tires. I found this thread and decided on Rally Amour even though I don't see a big need for rear mud flaps. The Basenor flaps came up...

    Tire snow chain via amazon

FYI, I managed to get my MY info into the Amazon system and there are only TWO "chain" options and both of those are a 12 piece zip ties ; not a good solution. The ones in your picture are not for 255/45 R19 wheels/tires.

    Tire snow chain via amazon

I'm looking for tire chains that I can get with one day shipping. I had no luck on Amazon after spending more than an hour reading tire chain specs looking for my 255/45 R19 tires. Has anyone bought their chains (or snow socks, if I must) on Amazon - if so, which ones? I found snow socks for...

    Finding the exact charger location

Yes, CA to NH. And back. I have done it many, many times via ICE car. I bought this car hoping for easier drive but that's not the case at all ... I refused to drive it from NH to CA in October and shipped the car instead; I find phantom braking far too stressful. Forget autosteer after I...

    Finding the exact charger location

I'm planning a road trip and have rarely used a supercharger. When I have it's sometimes been time consuming and frustrating finding the exact location of the chargers. In Palm Springs I drove around a parking garage for a while before I found them. This would not be fun on a cross-country...

    high frequency sound?

Reality check. This is a bummer not just for the dog but the human(s) having to listen to the screaming and knowing my dog is really suffering.
  21. bwilliams

    high frequency sound?

I've been stumped as to why my dog screams - and I mean loud screaming like she's being tortured - while riding in my MY. This is not something she did with our ICE vehicle nor the 2014 Model S. It occurred to me that there might be high frequency (outside human ability to hear) sound that is...

    TPMS options

I'm planning to sell my 2014 MS and have ignored the TPMS warning for years - I know how to check my tire pressure and add air. How did we ever live without these nuisance devices?? I got a quote from my nearest SC for $640 to replace them so I'm in sticker shock. I've read threads about...

    Pyro Fuse Fuss

That is my understanding as well, given what I learned here. Nevertheless, I was getting the fuse message and the 2 service centers I contacted were happy to take my money. I do not know why the message was there - I was gone for 5 months and came home to it - didn't see it on the app but then...

Thank you for this - great video. Seems like I would have the Bussman but ???
  33. bwilliams

    Pyro Fuse Fuss

battery pack: 60kWh, 350VDC, part# 1028600-00-B manufacture date: 02/14 does this help me determine which of the many fuses I have? the video is fantastic and seems like I should have the bussman though the guy didn't date the evolution of the fuses (or I missed it).
  34. bwilliams

    Pyro Fuse Fuss

I have not replaced the battery - it's original. So, why would the SC say I need to replace it and why am I getting that alert? And why the heck would the SC charge me $800 to do, what, nothing?? update: just got a message from SC "if the alert is present then it is needed".

Just got "The Fuse" message as I've been gone for 5 months. 2014 MS 60. The cost is $795. Just when I was literally going to sell this car next week. I'm going to try another service center. Or try to sell with the new owner to deal with if I can even sell it at all. Any advice? I'm...

Having my model Y shipped--recommended carriers?

re shipping: I use Montway. So far good service from their shippers. I reversed my plan from driving across the country New Hampshire to San Diego to shipping. I'm not adjusting to the stress of phantom braking and other nerve-wracking "features" of my current Tesla. FWIW, I've taken...

    Removing "T" emblems

I wonder if 2 or 3 Basenjs might be easier than 1; let them tire each other out. Yes, this is my B. I'll be driving across the US with her. Since we're driving across solo and there seems to be a growing population electric car haters out there I'd feel a little safer without the "T" on the...

    Yet more Autosteer questions

I have some rather mundane questions about Autosteer. I've read forum threads, watched youtube, RTFM - and maybe I'm simply missing what I need to know. Background is that I have been nervous about using AS after my many "uncomfortable" incidents with TACC. The phantom and crazy braking...

New Hampshire to San Diego (2023 Model Y LR)

Thanks and that makes sense about the route planners. I will need to customize in short segments. I agree about dog mode - love it and does allow much more freedom. I will certainly keep a diary of sorts for this trip. My cross-country trips have become really dull so looking forward to a...

New Hampshire to San Diego (2023 Model Y LR)

It is one that I've tried to "force" onto my preferred route by choosing towns that are off the freeways and on the "highway" route but directs me back to freeways. That might be the only choice for me. Freeways. Sorta done with freeway driving day after day.

New Hampshire to San Diego (2023 Model Y LR)

I'm just beginning to plan my umpteenth drive across the US; it's all about the dog (now #3). This will be a first via electric car. I'm considering taking as many off-freeway routes as possible using ideas from Road Trip USA. What little planning I've tried via charging route maps is...

Least expensive charging option better than 110

Just curious - what's the concern about romex run under a covered deck? I really don't know the issue but I do know it's done a lot here. The service center bit was definitely not fun costing me 2 full days (4 trips) including a long trip with the tow truck driver. Ya, maybe no more crises...

Any 16V compatible portable power stations?

Rather than start a new thread ... I'm looking for easiest solution for keeping my starlink up and running during power outages. I haven't tried my inexpensive 12v power inverter that that does not give an input range. Before I spend the $$, it sounds like Jackery works with 16v. Is that...
