If it makes anyone feel better I’m being quoted over £1,600 for my SR+. Double that for an LR. Clean record. 7 years no claims bonus. My previous car (BMW 6 Series GT M Sport Plus XDrive 3L) was £800 to insure!

Unfortunately it won’t be 5.3s unless you have A. A indicates the performance motor so it has the extra punch. J is the new china made motor which is built for efficiency rather than speed. Also, I think 5.8 may relate to 0-62mph. And 5.6 relates to 0-60mph

To be fair the SR is a grand more now (it was only £300 to unlock rear heated seats) and it doesn’t have that incredible acceleration or amazing sound System. I’d still opt for the LR if I could.

Customers with A are being told: - 305 range - heated front and rear seats / steering wheel - 5.3s 0-60 J‘s are being told the same except it’s 5.8s. Grr

K‘s have the new hairpin motor which is usually combined with the larger battery.

Hello from the UK - Tesla informed me that my SR+ will have a 305 mile range. The 8th letter in my VIN is J. This indicates the new, more efficient motor (Hence the range increase).

I noticed this during configuration. This is actually the white interior you’re looking at even though it looks black. If you see it with the black it’s noticeably darker.

Lol I just spoke to Michael at Tesla who “confirmed” the slower 0-60. Going by what we actually know, the A’s get the original SR+ motor (same as the performance) whilst the J’s get the new, efficient hairpin motor.

J’s definitely dont have faster acceleration. A‘s are the performance motor. J’s are the new efficient ones.

Yep, i confirmed over the phone that my SR+ will be 305, slightly slower 0-60 and all heated seats and steering wheel. He said over the phone there is nothing to suggest the 2022 Model 3 will come with full premium interior (I.e. subwoofer). I really want that.

I think I’ve just noticed a minor detail that might help. My dashboard has a picture of my model 3 SR+ with fog lights. This is highly likely an indication of premium exterior and interior features.

It’s highly likely the J is the new one per the motor being efficient. Hence 305. I hope this is caveated with the full premium interior though.

SPECULATION: I can’t help but wonder if Tesla plan to give 2022 SR+ an acceleration boost option to improve the 0-60. They’d then caveat this feature with a reduced range. Money making scheme 🤑

Worry not. Although SR+ VINs with J are ultimately the 305 range (already being delivered in EU), it’s likely the UK J VINs have software that keeps the range and speed as listed. I’ll let you know exactly what my J does soon after I take delivery on 26 Nov. I was hoping for an A just so I can...

All SR+ models get the same LFP batteries. The 8th letter in the VIN being J indicates the efficient motor, rather than the performance motor (indicated by the 8th VIN letter being A). It was just agreed at board level to favour range over speed. Thus, 2022 models will achieve 305 mile range...

I’m also led to believe that pre-2022 SR+ Models will receive an “over the air update” to achieve the same range. This is because there are no physical differences in batteries or motors, its through the power of software! - which will be ready and preloaded in time for the 2022 models.

Once i get my SR+ on 26 Nov I’ll take a pic of the motor and share the dyno test statistics 🤓

I called Tesla this morning, he told me there was an issue with my number on the system - I suspect others have the same issues. I booked a 29 Nov Delivery online and today had it moved to 26 Nov - he said my car is due at Bluewater late 25 Nov.

What does the new extended range and old acceleration mean? My understanding is that SR+ comes with the new LFP batteries which has slightly reduced range but can be charged to 100%. And the motor is not the performance anymore, but rather the new Model Y motor.

Me neither really. But if EU are getting “K” that must mean its the upgraded motor. The ones being offered “B” in EU were offered a 2k discount or to wait for “K”
