Life span for Continental ProContact Rx Tires

Here is the post I mentioned in my previous post, though I was wrong recalling that this post stated the OEM Contis were not as “durable.” I’m still curious if there is any confirmation that the aftermarket Contis are a better tire. I might be tempted to buy them again if I found out they were...

Life span for Continental ProContact Rx Tires

I’m at 18K on my Contis with about 4/32 remaining, and not sure I want to go much past 20K. I’ll likely be shopping for new tires in the spring and looking for something with a little more life in them. A few months back, I did see a post from someone on this forum state that the OEM tires...

Any tire inflators compatible with new 16v Li-Ion battery?

I’m a little late in my reply, but just in case you haven’t found a solution yet, I ended up with the Viair 85P. I’ve been using it for more than a year with zero problems. Highly recommended.

Gemini Tire replacement - anything better than OEM? (all season)

I believe you! I’ve been around TMC long enough to know that some people get a lot of life out of their tires. I also know that others like myself burn through them fairly quickly. I swear I’m not hot off the starting line (at least I try not to be) and yet I will still need to replace these...

Gemini Tire replacement - anything better than OEM? (all season)

I’m in the same boat, and also have the OEM Contis. I rotate every 7k miles, keep them inflated to 42psi, and yet I’m under 5/32” on all four with only 17k miles. And the inside tread is starting to look a little bare. I don’t think I’m an aggressive driver (though it’s true my wife might have a...

How many miles did your original Factory OEM tire last before replacing? (Miles/Wheel Type/ Size/ Tire Brand)

Hmm… my 19” OEM Continentals are at 5/32”, and just shy of 10K miles. I’m doubting that I will make it to the next tire rotation. I don’t think I’m that hot off the starting line. I can say that most of my miles are local traffic with lots of start/stops, which is probably a big factor. I see...

Camera condensation - expected or service call ?

Thanks for confirming. I will stop being concerned about it then. And as for condensation on the inside glass of the pillar camera, all I can say is that this is new for me too (seen on both sides of the car) and appears correlated to the loss of those cameras under direct sunlight. I garage my...

Camera condensation - expected or service call ?

Bumping this thread, since I’ve been having the same issue and wondering if is normal. I’ve had my Y since March, but it’s only been the past few weeks I have noticed a problem. I will generally see a left or right “pillar camera blocked or blinded” when driving in the morning, always on the sun...

I would not leave a tip.

    Battery health test

You could be right and I don’t have a picture. It’s possible I only learned of the feature on TMC rather than from the release notes on my car, in which case maybe this feature isn’t intended for general consumption.
  12. pepperoni

    Battery health test

Not sure why this would be a problem. The Battery Health Test was advertised in the 2022.36 release notes, which I would read as indicating this is a feature available for the general public. Why would I care whether Tesla logs that I run this test?

I’m curious, how many miles, and months of ownership? I wonder if the Tessie estimate will change too, now that you’ve completed a full battery health test.

Eventually, I would expect battery health to be more important than mileage for EV resale value.

Any tire inflators compatible with new 16v Li-Ion battery?

Nice! You’re right, the right angle connector is more convenient. The only reason I went threaded is reliability, though I doubt there is much of a difference. Looks like you got the 75P, a smaller more compact unit. I almost went that route. I’ve used my VIAIR 85P a few times now, and impressed...

Model Y Not Worth the Price Now [Nov 2022]

You have a lot more confidence in this congress than I do. Refinement or not, it still needs to pass the house and senate. And I don’t see any Republican sponsors of the bill, not a good sign for bipartisanship. I don’t think EVs or “green energy” are very popular on one side of the aisle, and...

Interesting, thanks for the article links. The first you linked to, on electrek, is a new bill. I don’t see how it passes without Manchin, and that would need to happen in the next 6 weeks. And it will certainly be killed after the midterms. You expect McCarthy or McConnell to bring a bill...

Is now the worst time to accept delivery of a Model Y?

Fair enough, but my confusion remains. Am I to understand that the “salvage value” of @barslag ’s MYLR exceeded $83K - $28K = $55K, after sustaining $28K of damage? That’s more than I paid for mine back in March. Seems hard to believe.

Is now the worst time to accept delivery of a Model Y?

Wait, the repair costs would have been 28K so the insurance company decided to total the car and give you 83K instead? I thought a car becomes “totalled” only when the cost of repairs exceed the car’s value. Never heard of insurance offering more than the cost of repair.

Thanks for the tip! At that price, I think I’ll give it a shot. I have a cheap one that gets the job done, but curious to see what the extra few dollars buys me. Amazon is currently showing 4-6 weeks to ship, but I’m patient.

    NEMA 14-50 home charging advice

It was a joke, but poorly executed. Guess I was just slightly annoyed that the AC example I first posted was “bad” because it didn’t meet some NEC standard for continuous current, so tried to make light of it and failed. But seriously… when the mercury goes above 100, my AC will literally run...

Sheesh! It was just an analogy. Somehow I missed that my example needed to meet the NEC standard. And while we’re on the topic of this NEC standard, enlighten me please since I’m not an electrician. Who is this cabal, and why should I care if my air conditioner doesn’t meet their standard?

    NEMA 14-50 home charging advice

It sure is. I only offered the air conditioner example as a response to the OP’s states concern: “A friend has me paranoid about home charging fires.” This was simply an example of another common home appliance which has a similar continuous current draw. I didn’t expect this to be a...

    NEMA 14-50 home charging advice

My example was a good one, thank you very much. Heat generated by large currents can rise to steady state values in tens of minutes, it doesn’t take hours. And AC comes on when ambient temperatures are already high. Finally, I don’t know about you, but temperatures in my part California got...

    NEMA 14-50 home charging advice

I understand the paranoia about home fires. Electrical code is there for a reason. That said, your home air conditioner may draw similar power (240v, 30a), so ask your friend if he’s also concerned about that. Have a licensed electrician do the job for you and you should be fine. The weak part...

Tax credit 2023 [The tax credit discussion thread]

Obviously delaying a 2021 order until 2022 wasn’t worth much, because BBB didn’t pass. Still, I put my order on hold last year through Jan 1 and have no regrets. How much do I save in fuel costs over ICE? A lot, but at times it really depends....

In my case, it’s not even close. $6/gallon is the average in my area. My Outback (the car that used to be my daily driver) gets about 23.5 mpg. So $100 gets me about 400 miles. With my Y, I get 0.28 kWh/mile and $0.13/kWh home rate, so I’m paying closer to $15 to drive the same 400 miles. But...

The number of used Tesla 3/Y available is staggering

I’m officially confused. 22 miles is not a “used” car, it is new. I think my new car had about as many miles on it when I accepted delivery. Why would someone order the same car for $65,990 + destination fee and wait months for delivery when they can get one of these for over $7K cheaper? What...

    Question about amps

I believe this is because some 14-50 outlets are on 40a breakers, and continuous current needs to be 20% less. You’re fine leaving it on the 50a breaker though. I think that addresses your original question.
