Vendor Official Atomic Wheels thread for Model Y

I don't have the car at home now, wife took it to work but I can tell you they don't poke out at all. I'll try to grab a photo tonight when she gets home. So far the face finish is holding up fine but I wanted to make sure others are aware of that. If you're frequently mounting/unmounting then...

Vendor Official Atomic Wheels thread for Model Y

I purchased the AWzz wheels on Friday March 15 for my Model Y. They were delivered to my house on Wednesday March 20. The wheels arrived well packaged with cardboard corners on both sides, foam encircling the inner/outer lip, a wheel cover, and a plastic bag. I inspected all 4 wheels and they...

    Tire foam, remove or not?

I’m Im taking my oem tires in to be mounted tomorrow. I tugged at all of the foam and decided it’s too much work to pull it all off. It’s really on there good. I’d be pulling it off in pieces and left with a ton of sticky goop inside the tire. I’ll deal with it if it becomes an issue down the...

    Martian wheels 10.5” wide ?

I'm okay with some stretch. Curious about your comment about wide tires. What would the correct size tire be on a 9.5” vs a 10.5”? Would I need something like 265 or 275 on the 9.5” in the future? How about a 10.5”

    Martian wheels 10.5” wide ?

I’m thinking about purchasing a set of Martian wheels. I noticed they have the wider 19x10.5 available on “sale”. Are there any downsides to running a slightly wider wheel? I’d like to mount the stock continental 255/45 on there if possible. My stock wheels are being used for snow tire duty so...

    Tire foam, remove or not?

@804son I'm curious what problems I'd introduce by removing the foam? Discount Tire already removed a chunk to fix a puncture. They did not replace the foam. Probably put 1000 miles on it since the tire was patched without issue.

    Tire foam, remove or not?

@jkdman123 i would never use the fix a flat sealant. The best way to ruin your stuff while making a huge mess. @Chewy13 what’s the best way to remove the foam? I’ll probably steer clear of foam in the future. Unfortunately I’ve got a few years left on these tires.

    Tire foam, remove or not?

I understand they’re designed to stay on. I tried tugging on them and they seem pretty secure. It’d probably be a pretty crappy job to have to remove the foam. I just want troubles in the future. Regarding the foam I don’t care either way. I didn’t buy the EV variant of winter tires so I have...

    Tire foam, remove or not?

It’s not that I want to remove them. It was a question whether they are prone to having problems so I should remove them now that they are not mounted. @jkdman123 the tires are not mounted right now. They are sitting in my basement. They will get remounted in the spring at which point they get...

    Tire foam, remove or not?

When I bought my tesla I remembered someone talking to a service advisor about removing the tire foam from his tire because it had come loose and balled up causing an imbalanced wheel. The guy tired to get them to dismount the remaining tires and remove all the foam because he didn’t want this...

Advice on Model Y Winter Tire Modification to 18"

    What charger(s) do I want/need for 2023 MY or M3?

The amount of thought you're putting in to circumvent the requirement is comical. I think you know what you need to do. I wish you luck with charging whenever you get your tesla.

How much energy does pre-conditioning take?

Just started seeing 30s this weekend and I noticed it was pulling 2-4kwh from the wall connector while preconditioning. It preconditioned pretty quick, 10mins maybe but we probably let it go for 30mins. Once the cabin reaches temp it drops down to about 1kwh on the wall connector. So nice to hop...

    What charger(s) do I want/need for 2023 MY or M3?

The requirement for gfci on 240v receptacles came with the 2020 NEC code revision. It looks like DE adopted 2020 in sept 2021 so you’re required to use a gfci. My wife can’t backup and will never learn so I went through the added expense of installing it for her pulling forward into the garage.

Advice on Model Y Winter Tire Modification to 18"

There is a great post here that provides the load analysis for using M3 18" on a MY. In typical driving scenarios with 4 passengers you should be fine using the M3 wheels on a MY. If you're going to be carry full loads near the capacity of the vehicle then you need to be more mindful with your...

Wall Connector install for rear entry - question

Ya Ya my goal was to keep everything in the walls to keep it clean. I will likely close up my garage walls now. I prefer not having conduit in my garage. I do understand there are many advantages to using conduit though.

    What charger(s) do I want/need for 2023 MY or M3?

Ya your best bet is to get something permanent for the home and a mobile unit to keep in your car (if you feel the need for mobile charging). I'd avoid using a mobile as your primary and plugging/unplugging as that could lead to premature failure of your receptacle, especially if you buy a cheap...

Wall Connector install for rear entry - question

I did finish my install. I ended up using 6/2 nm and used the corresponding 3/4” nm clamp. Needed to wallow out the hole in the wall to clear the nm clamp but it installed very cleanly.

    Wall Connector IP addresses

I think I figured it out. It looks like the subsequent wall connector (followers) connections run through the primary wall connector (leader). They form their own little network to manage the power sharing is my understanding. So the 192.168.92.2 was dished out by the primary wall connector...

    Wall Connector IP addresses

I recently installed 2 wall connectors and linked them to power share. I was looking over my network and noticed the primary unit has a 192.168.1.x IP address while the second one has a 192.168.92.2 address. I'm wondering if Tesla does this when I configure power sharing? I don't think my DHCP...

    What charger(s) do I want/need for 2023 MY or M3?

With your annual mileage I’d try to get your level 2 charging plan sorted out before you take delivery. I’ve been level 1 for the past few months and it’s doable but inconvenient. Every minute matters so you gotta keep your car plugged in all the time. In order to use the car as we normally...

Does everyone use Time of Use Electricity rates?

Because I was on 110. Every minute matters on 110. We were never able to fully recharge overnight with our usage. Today is literally my second day with lvl2, I’m sure our habits will change.

Does everyone use Time of Use Electricity rates?

My tou plan would be 7c vs 13c I pay now, roughly 50% reduction but then outside of that it would be 22c during peak. Since we’ve had the car we average about 500kwh/month which was primarily 110 (70%) and the rest a mix of lvl2 with some supercharging. So we’d save $35/month maybe but...

Does everyone use Time of Use Electricity rates?

TOU for me would be an extra meter on my EVSE circuit. There won't be any additional cost as the electric company provides this meter and I'll install it myself. I'm just concerned about losing the flexibility. I do not have a smart meter. Up until this week were were on 110 so literally none...

Does everyone use Time of Use Electricity rates?

I’m keep going back and forth on adding a tou meter to my evse. Has anyone come to the conclusion that it doesn’t make sense for their use case? Wall connector install ferrule?

    Wall connector install ferrule?

Ya that’s what I was afraid of, especially since I’ve been redoing stuff 2 or 3 times because I’m learning as I go. Do you think the tin is going to be an issue?

    Wall connector install ferrule?

    Can you explain why?
  30. B

    Wall connector install ferrule?

I’m installing a gen3 wall connector inside my garage with #6 stranded copper. I’m wondering if I should crimp a ferrule around the strands for a better connection? The ferrules I’ve seen appear to be tin? Does that cause problems as the installation specifically calls out using copper wire...

    Almost became a statistic

I've only got 1 outlet in my garage in a bad spot and life got in the way this summer so the extension cord was always a temporary solution. As to the voltage drop, I believe it's due to the high load on the circuit. It's got a large chest freezer and 2 refrigerators on it in addition to the...

    Almost became a statistic

I've been charging on 110 with a Costco 12awg extension cord for the past 3 months. The 2 pack 50ft yellow cords that are often on sale. I could never get more than 8a out. If I tried to go higher it would eventually drop down to 6a. The female end was always fairly warm to the touch but so was...

Finally drove a Model Y…it was incredible!!

I had been a long time tesla follower and eventually fanboy. I avoided riding/test driving a tesla for the longest time until I was absolutely ready to buy because I knew it would drive me crazy having experienced it and not being able to own one. I missed my chance with the m3 as my reservation...

    Wi-Fi hotspot connection issues

I experienced this in a rental. That sealed the deal for paying for connectivity. One thing that I experienced that you didn’t mention was it would randomly drop my hotspot connection while driving. Then we’d lose music and I’d be fumbling around trying to reconnect the Wi-Fi.

Why is AP dropping 20mph on freeway

About a month into ownership here. On the last few trips with AP; going home during rush hour in the HOV lane with a wall of cars to the right while cruising at 75mph the car will randomly drop into the 50s. I can’t figure out why but it brakes pretty hard. I’m sure the pile of cars behind me...

Bent rear passenger side hub/axle after spinning off track in MYP

I would also vouch for Jeff. He’s a one man show and can be pretty busy. Sometimes he can be a little moody. But he does great work, meticulous, and is fun to chat with. Just make sure you stay out of the work area. I enjoyed going there because you can chat with him while he works and I think...

Charging advice for a weekend-only car

If you’re just driving over the weekend save your money and try 110 life and see if it suits you. I’ve been doing it for about a month now. It’s been manageable for my daily commute but I’m going to put in a wall connector because when winter comes 110 won’t be enough to keep up.

shared 15 amp for mobile connector

I'm in a similar position, using a mobile connector right now and I have a fridge in the garage. I just lower the amperage of the mobile connector so we don't overload the circuit. You should be okay - its just really slow.

Wall Connector install for rear entry - question
