Why People Do Not Want Tesla Cars

I would feel a lot more comfortable buying a Tesla than something equally as obscure, such as an Alfa Romeo. There are no Alfa dealerships/service centers anywhere near me, which has always been a reason that I've never seriously considered buying one. Same issue with Tesla, but I have more...

Change of Policy on Tesla Ranger Service

Tesla seems to be doing whatever it takes to kill sales to people who don't live near an authorized service center and/or approved body shops. If you have to pay $800 for a tech to come fix a wiper blade & tail light, or have your car hauled to a service center or body shop that's 500 miles...

    TSLA % of Your Portfolio

The majority of my investments are in index funds, because I'm more concerned with long term progress and not having to watch things daily. I'll buy a few individual stocks as more of a "play investment" than anything else. If I lose in them, then it angers me, but it really doesn't effect my...

Should EVs Make Artificial Sounds at Low Speeds?

My hearing isn't as good as it used to be, unfortunately. I'm not deaf, but very quiet sounds are difficult to hear sometimes. In the winter, when walking through parking lots, I often can identify running cars (i.e., cars likely to pull out of their spots suddenly), by the clouds of exhaust...

    Short-Term TSLA Price Movements - 2015

Interestingly, soon after I bought in (several months ago), prices continue to flail and decline. Sorry guys, it looks like I'm the cause. :(

Owner robbed at gunpoint and Model S stolen while supercharging in Barstow...

The best solution would be some sort of remote terminal or phone at the charging station that could be used to contact police & Tesla. The owner who's car was just stolen (along with his cell) can immediately call for help. Cameras at the charging stations would also be wonderful. You think...

What will happen if Tesla announces a 110kWh pack for the S

5 years ago, I bought a 36" flat screen TV, replacing my old 32" thick one that I'd had for 16 years. At the time, I was SO happy that I got a bigger screen than the old one (and flat too!) and paid ~$750, which is less than the $1,200 I paid for the previous one. NOW, I see that Wal-Mart...

GM CEO Mary Barra on Tesla: 'We just want a level playing field'

It has nothing to do with what the dealers want; it's what the public wants. Every time I see a Facebook post that references Tesla (like the ones from Car & Driver, etc.), people are on there saying things like "make it affordable!" and "I'll buy one when it's under $25K". Most of these...

Value of Autopilot and improvements .... Used S85 values.

Who knows what will actually happen, but historically, higher-optioned cars will depreciate proportionately more than the lesser equipped models.

Ford to Build Model S Competitor?

What would it take for GM to retool the Volt to offer a sub-model that was a pure EV? I don't think it would be very difficult to do for them, and we might see this once battery efficiency improves enough to give it a decent range. However, Tesla has already taken steps to be very competitive...

    Tesla moments

This is why we've been waiting to get a Model S. We have a regular trip to a rural area that's exactly 250 miles, and there are no superchargers along the way (yet), and I don't want to stop at a campground for 2-3 hours to charge on what is otherwise a 4 1/2 hour trip! I'd hate to be 20 miles...

Petition to force Tesla to come up with a retrofit for AutoPilot

So you want to "force" Tesla to upgrade your car, or if that's not possible, have them buy it back and you decide how much it depreciated during your ownership?

New Model S P85 D options, fog lights, parking sensors, paint armor?

Does the $40K ICE car you're comparing the Model S against offer the same level of performance? The thing about high-performance cars is that they make you want to drive them like high-performance cars. But on the up-side, you get many more smiles per mile than in a "normal" sedan. So it's...

Did you feel that? The rapid acceleration of depreciation of your P85

From the timing of your post (3am), seems the announcement left you a bit sleepless. lol! I completely understand. It's like replacing your old 27" cabinet TV that you've had for 10+ years with a new 36" flat screen, only to see the prices fall, the resolution rise... and 8 months later...

New Model S P85 D options, fog lights, parking sensors, paint armor?

Seems to me like the cost of tires would be a trivial thing on an ultra-high performance car costing >$100K. Ferraris have the same problem, but I rarely hear anyone complaining about it. If it's really an issue, buy a Leaf.

Self-Driving Car: Is it a big deal?

I spend 2 hours a day driving. I'm working on a computer about 5-6 hours a day. Somehow, I feel a bit safer while working on the computer. I'm making a joke, but I do understand your point. However, callmesam is right; driving is the most dangerous activity for most, and there have...

    Valet Mode

That's exactly what I was thinking when I first read the post that mentioned it recorded sound. Very illegal! (Thanks to the politicians, who don't want to be recorded without their knowledge) Also, Corvette had a valet mode in the ZR1, which came out in 1991, so this is not a new concept...

Need Advice: Minor Ding, Incredible Body Shop Quote (insurance? options?)

Years ago, I had just finished the show-quality restoration of a '57 Corvette, and decided to stop by Kmart to pick up a few things. Realistically, How Long Can We Expect a Model S to Last?

I have a 1914Overland that still runs, although it's been restored and has probably never been a daily driver over the last 100 years. Things WILL last if they are maintained. And there's not much to maintain on a Tesla. (I like that) Fact: Electronics age & deteriorate. I've had 20-30 year...

IOWA DMV pushed by dealerships to block Tesla test drives

What if they opened a car rental business, and part of the $1 rental agreement was that you had to take a member of their staff along for the duration of your 30 minute rental? The story of Elon Musk and GM's race to build the first mass market electric car

Remember the EV1? GM's biggest problem is GM. And I say that as a lifelong fan of some of their models. Tesla may have had a few minor stumbles, but it's light years ahead as an innovator. The way they do business and take care of their customers puts GM to shame! I have much more...

Anderman predicts Model 3 will cost between $50k-$80k, far above Tesla estimated $35k

^^ This The Model S legitimized Tesla as a manufacturer to the skeptics. The Model X will show they're not just a 1-trick pony, and will raise brand awareness, but it's still going to be a premium vehicle (and rightly so). The Model 3 will be the real game-changer and will make Tesla a...

Where will the gigafactory get all the lithium?

Interesting article. I wouldn't be surprised to see Tesla purchase this mining company: http://etfdailynews.com/2014/09/24/what-impact-will-the-tesla-motors-inc-tsla-gigafactory-have-on-lithium/ "By 2020, the gigafactory will be producing 500,000 (500K) lithium-ion batteries a year. That is...

Dual Electric Motors - does it reduce range? Possibility of FWD only?

Maybe not in Los Angeles, but here in Chicago, AWD is significantly better in poor weather conditions than RWD (based on my track & street experience with Porsches of both configurations). The torque-steer isn't nearly as noticeable as you would imagine, unless you're a very aggressive driver...

    Soundproofing The P85+

I just bought a pair of Bose noise-cancelling earplugs (which work amazingly well) and it makes me wonder why some electronic noise cancellation couldn't be integrated into the cars from the factory. 15K Model X delivered next year

Depends if the X is that much better. SUVs attract a whole different market than sedans. Porsche knows that, and also found a new cash-cow with the Cayenne, which sells better than anything else they build. http://press.porsche.com/news/release.php?id=751 Interestingly, the introduction of...

Agreed. Everyone wants to jump on the newest hot deal, or chase the new squirrel. I was watching BABA closely this morning, as well as TSLA. BABA may be a great opportunity, but TSLA still is also, and personally I have more confidence in what Tesla is trying to sell than Alibaba. And I'm an...

When the Tesla Gigafactory is build in ~2016 - Will the Model S drop in price?

One of my biggest concerns is that as battery technology advances over the next decade, the current Model S will be an albatross due to the size/shape of the battery used possibly being incompatible with the future battery. If updating a 2014 Tesla to the range of a 2020+ model is just a...
