    Australian BEV sales data

I posted this earlier this month on another topic - maybe part of the reason for the slowdown of sales in NZ? My wife and I returned yesterday from 2 weeks driving approx. 2,300kms around the north island of NZ in a Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid small sedan. A good car to drive car but one that...

    Model Y tyres

Tesla Brisbane mobile service charged me $71.28 in May'23 for rear to front. In January '24 side to side cost $100.98 (2 jacks). At those prices it wasn't worth me taking the time needed to use a local tyre place - but at $140 it would tempt me greatly.

Tesla market share of BEVs in NSW

Not NSW but cannot find anywhere else to place it- - from RACQ Club News received today. Article quotes - "according to peak industry body the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries ....... ".........Sales of electrified vehicles in March made up 23.5% of the total market, with battery...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Back in late January I received one AP strike. I presumed it would be forgotten after 1 week but it still remains on the AP screen. Could it be that you need 5 strikes and a total ban before the 1 week suspension removal kicks into play? Anyone been so foolish recently and can comment?

State based EV road user charge (Overturned 18/10/23)

If NZ was ironed flat like the majority of Oz then the land areas would be similar.

State based EV road user charge (Overturned 18/10/23)

My wife and I returned yesterday from 2 weeks driving approx. 2,300kms around the north island of NZ in a Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid small sedan. A good car to drive car but one that screamed at me every drive in the first couple of days until I remembered to disable all the warning sound each time...

    Car Insurance Options

Most of the talk in this thread so far has been about the costs and delays associated with repairing Teslas (and other EV’s) after accidents. Yesterday at my seniors golf group’s monthly bbq I was quizzed about this - being the only EV owner out of the 42 members. Talk eventually lead to the...

    Australian Model 3 highland accessories

Did you manage to install the sill protectors? Would appreciate a brief description of the effort needed as mine arrive later today. (Model Y)

    Model Y Aero Covers

Thank you for the explanation. So my plan is to continue to drive urban w/o covers for the aesthetics and with covers for road trips for the (small) extended range. Also continuing to carry the spare wheel for long trips but removing it when home. Old, so belt and braces.

    Model Y Aero Covers

Dronus posted this in the M3Highland Tips section. "Interesting article in reference to aero wheel covers." Got me thinking again about the aero covers I removed from my 22 Y shortly after delivery. All 4 are identical so I can't see how they would actually work - the covers on the 2 sides of...

Vehicular ferries AMSA guidelines for carrying EV's

In 1956 I took my Triumph Thunderbird across on the old Taroona - loaded on and off in a sling. Instructed to have just enough petrol to get to nearest servo as the bike would be laying on its side. The nearest servo was at George Town which meant backtracking on the proverbial oily rag.

    Superchargers in Australia

This was my comment to the suburban supercharger issue on the Whirlpool forum - "Fortitude Valley (Brisbane Service Centre) has 4 stalls with max 125kW and they are not easy to access. The North Lakes installation is progressing very slowly for some unknown reason. They will be very handy for...

This was the point of my original comment.

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Perhaps, but the speed limit reverts to 50kph for the rest of the street - so not unrestricted which I understand to be the meaning of that sign in Oz (or was when I was much younger).
  15. Q

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Updated to 23.44.30.2 this morning. First drive down my own street noticed a new sign - went around the block to check I was not hallucinating. Photos of new sign on screen and actual sign. Haven't seen one of these de-restriction signs for many years. Signage recognition still some way to go yet.

Supercharger - Brisbane (North Lakes), QLD

Drove past yesterday pm - still surrounded by high privacy fence. The approach is via the main traffic route in North Lakes - a real nightmare at this time of the year (and possibly all year).

    Road noise - 2023 Model Y

My experience. The day I took delivery of my Y RWD my wife said she could hear the whirring noise of the electric motor. After I had installed the boot rubber mat and the parcel shelf (retractable) she told me could not hear that noise. I have never heard the noise.

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

In my 2022 Y RWD a pet tether (from K Mart) plugged into one of the rear seat restraint points is all that is required - no weight necessary.

    ChargeFox EV charging Network

The RACQ/Chargefox chargers at the shopping centre on the corner of Beams/Gympie Roads at Carseldine are now operating. One Fast charger with CCS2 and Chademo at 50kW @40cents with 20% off for RACQ members. Two Ultrafast chargers (linked with the same station number) at up to 210kW @60cents...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Yes ZD, that solves the immediate problem but the navigation system should not be that bad in the first place. I learned my lesson about silencing co-drivers over 50 years ago.:)

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Model Y on 2023.32.7. On our recent trip south and back the voice instructions were often at odds with the posted instructions on the screen. For example, approaching a town the voice would say "Turn left into Alice Street" whereas the screen instruction was to proceed straight ahead. It became...

I said smoothly not slowly. It does seem odd that my quite old eyes are still better than the cameras on the Tesla.

    Active Safety Systems

On our recent return trip from Victoria we drove from Bathurst to the Hollydene SC down through the mountains. At Wattle Flat we encountered a large 'roo standing upright in the centre of the road seemingly challenging me to a round or two. The forward collision systems absolutely failed to...

    NRMA fast charging network

Have just now returned and can report that the 3 NRMA chargers that I used in in Young, Bathurst and Armidale on my return trip were still free. I used the Bathurst one only because it is right alongside the Tesla chargers, there were no other ev's anywhere in sight and it was free to use. A...

My app shows 0/6 available with a 5 minute wait. Inevitable with Maclean SC out.

    Aussie queues this long weekend

I also plan to travel out of holiday periods - in fact we depart Tuesday morning to head to Sydney with 2 planned overnight stops. I have just now noticed that the Maclean SC is U/S - all 4 chargers are down. Should make Knockrow busy later today and tomorrow. Hope it stands up to the strain.
  27. Q

    NRMA fast charging network

I signed up yesterday as I leave next Tuesday for a trip around NSW and Victoria and wanted to cover as many charging options as I could. I ended up with the full membership (12 months free) as no charge-only membership seems to be on offer yet. I plan to convert to the charge-only membership...

    On the Road Puncture Repairs

OK - my reading of the posts so far : Only Tam from California confirms successfully plugging a foam-lined Ev tyre on the roadside but several others believe it should be ok. Workshop repair better if possible. I have plugged tyres on previous cars with good results. I hope I don't actually...

    On the Road Puncture Repairs

A Youtube video I watched recently stated that tyre plugs were not very effective on EV tyres - the ones with the foam insert - as the foam prevented a proper seal. The video also indicated that pressure pack sealants were ineffective. I know that Vostok was very happy with his plug repair but...

    Supercharger - Armidale, NSW

In January I drove from Tamworth to Tenterfield starting with 100% charge as I knew it could be tight. No problem at all in MYRWD - can't remember the exact arrival SOC but was certainly not suffering from range anxiety when I arrived. The Tenterfield SC had not long opened so that was welcome...

"Cruise Control" vs Autopilot vs Enhanced Autopilot

I wish there was a "basic" cruise control setting under the level of TACC - this might have allowed the driver to maintain control of the wipers instead of the TACC turning on the wipers to automatic. I am often annoyed by the rapidity of the swiping when very light rain is falling and I am...

    ChargeFox EV charging Network

Carseldine shopping centre, cnr Gympie Road/Beams Road. The 3 RACQ Tritium units - fence now removed but chargers wrapped solidly in black plastic. All cabling appears complete. Not sure what the nexr step is or when they will be switched on.

    Queensland EV Charging Infrastructure Scheme

Carseldine shopping centre. I have searched for the earlier mention of this site to no avail. I had the impression that Tesla might be relocating the Toombul chargers here but that is obviously not the case. 3 new Tritium chargers branded RACQ with Chargefox emblem are being installed at the...

    Tilt/Swivel Screen mount for sale

    Boombox in Aus?

OK, so it seems that we have a mixed bag - some 2023 cars have Boombox, others don’t. Some earlier cars with a retrofit have a forward PWS noise, others don’t. I will await official notice from Tesla to inform its customers of their actual intention with ts Boombox and forward PWS. As...

    Boombox in Aus?

I have posted before on this matter - a Tesla technician told me specifically that the Oz version of Boombox does not have the software to enable a sound when driving forward. Because of his warning (given standing next to my car) I cancelled the Boombox installation. Your statement that the...

Tesla Australia WAiting room (Perth WA)

No driver privileges - just seems we Easteners value our firies a little more than you do. The triangle is to warn them that a large battery is present in the car. BEVs HEVs and PHEVs all must have the triangle on both front and rear plates. Seems like a good idea to me.

Tesla Australia WAiting room (Perth WA)

Not sure where to post this so will start here. Just back from 10 days in Perth and glad to report quite a few Teslas running round. On a train ride to Fremantle on Thursday noticed a RORO vessel discharging large numbers of vehicles onto the wharf - including a very significant batch of...

    Run Flats

When I received my spare wheel kit I did a trial run before we left on our trip. The jack worked ok with a puck and the nuts came off without great effort. I'm considerably older than 78. I would definitely check the torque at home after a tyre rotation done at a tyre shop (e.g. Bob Jane) as...

Speed shown on display - accuracy?

I am interested to find out how accurate is the speed displayed on the screen? My previous vehicle (Forester) always indicated about 4% more than the actual speed (GPS). Also, how does the MY actually read the speed? Sensors?GPS? Any help appreciated.

    Sydney to Darwin road trip

OK gm12 - did you reach Cloncurry? Perhaps you are already having a coldie or two at the Darwin Hilton - but I at least would like to know how the trip turned out. Especially any charging dramas in the (relative) outback. Hope all is well.
