Issues With Installing a Charger in NJ with no offstreet parking

Thanks to all who answered the initial question. I'll continue to monitor but it looks like I know my path forward.

Issues With Installing a Charger in NJ with no offstreet parking

So what would your solution be? Edit: That will not take 3-8 hours out of my day. Supercharge all the time? (Serious question). Edit2: Cambridge legalizes EV charging across the sidewalk - The Boston Globe

Issues With Installing a Charger in NJ with no offstreet parking

I asked the inspector if could I run the cord over the sidewalk in a channel. He said no. I said what other solutions exist? He said "we'll look into it" and get back to you. After them not getting back to me, I then started providing them alternative solutions. They never replied to my emails.

Issues With Installing a Charger in NJ with no offstreet parking

Filed a permit for installation on the house. It was denied. Spoke directly with the head of the permitting deparment about the solutions I posted above and was told "no" to all of them. They did. Immediately with a "no". Due to the cost involved with that, that's like step 25 and I'm on step 8.

Issues With Installing a Charger in NJ with no offstreet parking

If I can get 5 miles of range per hour and can charge my car from when I get home from work until when I go out the next day (say 12 hours), a Level 1 charger would provide 60 miles of range and wipe away most (of not all) of that drive. That's IMMENSELY more helpful than trying to fight for one...

While not ideal, I'd deal with it if this was the best I could get.

Which, in the past 3 months, the town pulled out all of the sidewalks and put new ones in. I asked during that time if I could run a conduit under the sidewalk and there was no response.

Issues With Installing a Charger in NJ with no offstreet parking

A quick google turns up: Cambridge legalizes EV charging across the sidewalk - The Boston Globe I'm trying to install a charger however I can do it. On a pedestal at the curb would be fine, but I'd also do: On the house with the cord that goes in the sidewalk: In a channel that goes on the...

Issues With Installing a Charger in NJ with no offstreet parking

So the town I'm in in NJ won't issue a permit for my EV charger because I don't have a driveway. I've tried going under and in the sidewalk, however, they won't issue a permit. Anyone else had this issue? How did you get around it?

Yeah. They're REALLY bad. I emailed them and asked to close my account / get a refund. They did. I now filter them out on Plugshare.

Does anybody adjust their charging amps using app?

Very true. So I did. Unfortunately, the cable coming into my home can support 100amp service.

For now, nothing. It's not too bad. I'm thinking longer term about getting the covers that go between the rim and the tire.

Welp, I did it. I (like a silly goose) curb rashed one of my rims. And it was for a crap charger too (coincidental, stay FAR AWAY from the OpConnect chargers; the one I was at was slower than molasses and more expensive than most Chargepoint locations. PLUS, their app is HORRIBLE. Not bad...

Does anybody adjust their charging amps using app?

100% agree on replacing electrical items that are old and out of date. But the cost to upgrade service from 100 to 150 or 200 ain't cheap.
  18. LetsGoElectric

Does anybody adjust their charging amps using app?

I can certainly do this if you're paying for it. Otherwise, 100 amp service it is.

    Not with that attitude! :p
  20. LetsGoElectric

Does anybody adjust their charging amps using app?

To prevent idle fees. When using an outlet that (for whatever reason) can't provide the full amperage.

So, recently took a trip out of NJ up to Connecticut. Here's my experience. Left with the car at ~90% charge. On the way out, we left around rush hour. "Basic" autopilot and lane assist were a dream. Traffic was/is so much easier when the car handles the stop/starts and keeping in the lane...

Good to know; I almost ordered that one. Instead, I bought a larger NVME drive, installed it in an external enclosure, partitioned it, and just use one physical drive now.

Easily accessible 12V power below dash?

Did you ever get the wire routed? I'm in the same boat; I have no issues plugging into the center console, however, I would like to avoid any visible wires as much as possible.

I have one similar to that and it does work. Better than the ones you used to plug into your cigarette lighter. Not as good as stopping at a Gas Station / Wawa / etc. to add air.
