Pack Access Plug (under voided label)?

Under the left rear corner of the pack is a round label: Under the label (uh-oh, voided) is a 6-lobe socket head cover plug: Behind the cover is a 2-terminal connector, which runs directly to pack + and - voltage: So is that plug used with jumper cables--like to jump off a car when the...

    Suspension Problem on Model S

i don't know that i would call this 'normal' wear and tear--maybe accelerated wear due to loss of lubrication in the ball joint. Could also be some galvanic action. Don't know that it is a design 'defect' or maybe just a poor design choice--hard to know. i couldn't find any pictures of the...

Charging beyond 90% and long term effects...

As a practical matter when living in a situation with limited access to charging at home for a few months between moving to a new house that does have home-charging, it is not likely to violate anyone by using a SC in order to operate your car on a daily basis. If you want or need to wait the...

Charging beyond 90% and long term effects...

OP--charge to 100% and don't worry, be happy, since you have limited access to charging and it is not convenient, plus the battery pack has a 10 year infinite miles warranty. Nobody has damaged their pack by charging to 100%. The only scientific test data was from holding a cell at 100% and...

    On board generator

Don't take any of the replies personally, if you had prefaced your questions as being a technical inquiry from someone not an expert in the field, then the replies may have been a little less abrasive. A car, fossil-fueled or electric, only produces the amount of power at the wheels needed to...

Momentum dynamics claims 200kw wireless charging by end of year. Credible or crap?

Maybe a 2 kW system? There were no products or specs listed on their somewhat useless website. Since air is such a poor conductor of magnetic fields compared to the iron used in transformers, it requires huge amounts of illegal drugs to even consider the possibility of passing the equivalent...

Max Power vs State of Charge and Temp

That's a great collection of data. There is nothing 'backwards' about the temperature effect--it is well known that a colder pack has less capacity available than a warmer one, so at any given SOC a cold pack will have a lower output power as measured. It is interesting to see how the lines...

Very interesting that the torque started ramping down at about 2.25 sec, yet the current changed to a steeper slope at the time and had not even hit it's peak yet--?? i would have expected the torque to increase as the current increased, so this is a bit of a puzzle.

    Repairing a Flooded Tesla Model S : HOW-TO

From looking at the previous charging data from lolachampcar i would guess that SoC is calculated by integrating the current up until it reaches the 93% mark. Looks like you wouldn't want to be racing for virtual pink-slips unless charged up--about 8% SOC is good for one car length to 1/8 mile. With equally charged packs i'd bet the data will be identical due to the common launch control logic. The main difference in a drag race will be due to SOC...

i took a crack at comparing 90 to 85, Bill D's run 4 with LCC's run 4 from his round of 7--couldn't get a good alignment of time and a big torque dip may throw off the readings, but the max Rtorque was about the same for both ~450 ft-lbs. Maybe can try another set of runs later...kb

Performance of P85D with Ludicrous upgrade review

Well if that is the case, then i would edit my statement and say that the range guess-timator has an algorithm error. It should probably subtract 4 miles of range when the max battery is engaged. A warm battery may be more efficient, but it can't make more range by using it's own power to heat...

Electrical vs Mechanical Horsepower Here's another look at lolachampcar's FF 0-60 run1 from the other day to compare the input electrical power to the developed mechanical power (in HP). The difference between these two would be a measure of the losses in the system, e.g. energy conversion...

@MikeB, re: step integration, i was doing the same procedure that wk057 described except using Rrpm instead of mph to calculate the distance travelled in feet--both should give about the same answer, so it makes a good way to check for a closed solution. His method is probably easier when...

Chassis CAN Logging To ASCII Text Plus Graphing

Wow great data set, run 4 shows a 0-60 in ~3.05. i was expecting to see higher torques but it looks like 450 ft-lbs at the rear is still the limit. It looks like the current ramps-down after 6.5 to 7.5 seconds at around 92 mph, quite noticeable on run 4, probably something getting warm after...

i'll throw out another look at the initial launch sequence, here is a time-step integration of the Rrpm to calculate distance travelled assuming 24" diameter tires. It looks to me like maybe the whole point of that current-torque-rpm oscillation is to produce a linear 1-foot rollout response...

Here are some charts from Bill's slip start testing at ~80%SOC of post #287. Run 1 is normal ff launch and runs2-3 are using slip start. In run1 you can see where the rear rpm is modulated by traction control, the current has pulled back and the torques have a big bucket. There is still...
