One-fob-click door close is the devil

I've already concluded that I can't keep my fob in my pocket when I get in to drive--too easy to accidentally open the FWD when I sit down and move my leg, even with a double-click required. (It's happened like 3 times in two days.) In light of that, one click to close doors is great--I use it...

    Model X June Deliveries

Picked up our Model X this evening and drove it back from Chicago to Michigan. So far, I love it. One very minor fit and finish issue (driver's side FWD doesn't line up quite right at the back top). Autopilot is amazing. :) VIN 49XX, 90D/20"/Autopilot/7 seats/Black, otherwise base configuration.

    NTHSA Rating

Haven't been published yet. It took about a year for the Model S to get tested, so I'm guessing late fall or early winter for Model X test results. FWIW, it also hasn't been tested yet by EuroNCAP or by IIHS; IIHS has still never tested the Model S, so I'm not sure if they'll continue their...

    Model X June Deliveries

Hey, maybe this will be the thread for our delivery! Our DS just told us that our car is in the Paint stage, and that June 24-25 is a possible delivery window. I won't believe it for sure until much closer, but I'm super excited that we might get our X by the end of the month.

Any Late April-May people hear from their DS about imminent deliveries?

I've been told that my X ("late April-May") will go into production in May. I figure that I'm looking at late May-June. Note that I had to ask to get this update--the website still says late April-May.

What does Autopilot do, and what it doesn't? When will it not be "Beta"?

@Drivin That might be, but with most accidents caused by human error (and inattention is a big part of that), there's still a big gain from automated systems that prevent accidents that human inattention would have caused.

How many Model X owners here have also placed order for the Model 3?

We'll probably get a 3 eventually, but with the X as our main car and our current Prius as a secondary car, we shouldn't need a new car for a while. I figure I'll let people who really need the 3 get it, and then we'll get one around 2020 or so when I hope there won't be a wait.

    Superchargers for Model 3

I agree that "Supercharging is standard" seems pretty clear, but there's a little bit of wiggle room there. That is consistent (barely) with "access to Supercharging on a pay as you go basis." But I was pretty surprised by that statement.

    Percentage cancelling deposit

It's possible that it's someone trying to make good on a short, but I prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt. Plus, nothing wrong with shorting a stock if you think it will go down, although I certainly wouldn't short Tesla myself. If the $35K version (pre-tax credit, so $27.5K with...

    Reservations Statistics

For other Teslas, Reservation Numbers have not been decodable. For the Model X, they used to give two numbers (the Reservation Number and the Sequence Number), but they have since stopped publicly displaying a sequence number. I don't think your reservation number tells you anything about...

Model X - Missing and most wanted features

There are blind spot indicators in Teslas, but they're on the dash, not on the wing mirrors, which is a little less intuitive.

So, Just hung up from an unexpected and very interesting phone call from Tesla

It's funny, I was thinking the opposite--I'm glad for what this says about when we might get our X, but I'm worried that it means that the total number of confirmations may be low so far. :D

So, Just hung up from an unexpected and very interesting phone call from Tesla

Just thought I'd mention that the 90D VIN assignments aren't limited to CA deliveries. We just received a VIN (a little under 5000) for our 90D, no premium interior, order for pickup in Chicago.

    Model X Winter Tire package?

Tesla has just posted a winter tire package for the Model X: Tesla Cyclone Wheel and Winter Tire Package Is this any good? What do people think of the Pirelli Scorpion Winter tires? How does the pricing compare to buying four wheels, four winter tires, and such separately? I'm not very...

So How Many People Are Ahead Of Your Delivery?

What I was told when I asked was that the production order is determined by (A) config and (B) confirmation order, with reservation sequence no longer mattering. So if sequence number 15000 orders tomorrow with the same configuration as sequence number 25,000, who ordered yesterday, sequence...

So How Many People Are Ahead Of Your Delivery?

I think it's really hard to estimate. What data do we have? We have the modelxtracker, which shows that roughly 26.5% of the people who said that they reserved subsequently said that they ordered. That would suggest that there might be something like 7500-10,000 total orders at present. But...

Estimates of January Model X production

So, we now have enough information to make some very rough estimates of January Model X production. We know that in December, they produced 507 Model Xs. As of January 30, 2016, they have produced at least 444 (approximately) production Model Xs (because people at the event last night reported...

Exiting the third row in a 7-seat X with a power failure?

I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to get out of the third row in the 7-seat configuration if there's a power failure and the electric motors on the second row don't work. Is there a mechanical failsafe? Is there some other way to get out? (It might be possible to exit by...

Model X official NHTSA safety rating?

I don't think so--it's pretty common for there to be multiple configurations of the vehicle with only some having been tested. It would mean that they might, for example, test the 7 seat configuration and not the 6 or 5 seat configuration, but most of the data would carry over.

    Third Row Comfort/Spaciousness

I'm 6'2", and I recently got a chance to sit in various seats of the Sig Model X (thanks Joel!). Here are my assessments: 1. Front seats were very comfortable and roomy feeling, much more so than the S. (On test drives, I found the S without panoramic roof didn't have enough head room, and...

Model X official NHTSA safety rating?

Nothing official has come out yet. I'm told that the NHTSA rated the Model S in August 2013--a little more than a year after the first Model S deliveries in June 2012. If it took the same amount of time, that would suggest November 2016. Of course, it could be sooner or later than that...

Working on Autopilot v2 hardware suite - Confirmation by Elon

Yeah, I'll be sad if I get my Model X in 6 or 9 months and then AP2.0 hardware rolls out 3 or 6 months later. But there's no guarantee that will be the pattern--it could just as easily be a year or 18 months later for AP2.0 hardware, and another year for AP2.0 software that actually opens up...

    Tesla real numbers goals

Sounds about right, but production P90s might be after the Founder by referral vehicles? Also, they might run off some demo cars for the dealerships between the Sigs and the production cars. So it's all a little vague, but somewhere around Feb 1 for the start of the production vehicles sounds...

How long until 1000 X's are delivered ?

So, with 507 produced and a last week of December production that "tracks to production" of 238 Model Xs per week, that suggests that it will hit 1000 Model Xs produced by about Jan. 15th or so. How long from 1000 produced to 1000 delivered is basically just guesswork. February, perhaps? Of...

    Base price

Also note that the letter confirmed that they are planning on adding a smaller battery size Model X option (although it didn't specify what that size would be--70, 80, whatever) in 2016. So there should eventually be a Model X configuration that's really about $5K more than the bottom end Model...

    X instead of S - Why?

To be honest, the main reason we have an X reserved instead of buying an S is that my spouse prefers the X--I want a Tesla, she wants a minivan/SUV ish vehicle, we're compromising on the X. More specifically, we have 3 kids, including an infant, and we expect that getting them into and out of...

    Autopilot is already improving.

It would be interesting to test the same drive with different Teslas to see whether the whole fleet is learning at the same rate, or whether there's both car specific and fleet level learning going on. For example, if you've never driven a route before in your Tesla, will your Tesla have gained...

Reservation holders: Would you configure & confirm your ModelX without access to one?

EchoDelta pretty much covers my opinion. We really need to see one, get a feel for what it's like to sit in and get into and out of, see how big people do in the 2nd and 3rd rows, check rear visibility, etc. As for the test drive, we've driven the Model S, so we have a good sense of how the...

    Model X vs Volvo XC90

Here's a write-up I did of my comparison (for my purposes, which may not match yours) of the available information on Model S vs. Model X vs. plug-in hybrid Volvo XC90 a few weeks ago: Tesla Model S, without jump seats in the back: This is a big, 5-seat sedan. With the panoramic roof option...

Timeline for outside safety testing/crash tests?

Does anyone know how long it will likely be before we get outside safety testing and crash test data on the Model X? How long did it take after initial release for the NHTSA and Euro NCAP to test the Model S? I assume that the IIHS testing falls into the same waiting pattern of "they might...

Elon Musk Founder 1 Data and VIN Plate [photos] and My Initial X Reaction

The concern isn't about acceleration. As I understand it, Gross Vehicle Weight Rating is a safety issue--you shouldn't add things to a vehicle to go over that limit, ever. What I was saying is that if you had 7 adults, averaging 200 pounds each, you would be too heavy for the Model X to be...

Elon Musk Founder 1 Data and VIN Plate [photos] and My Initial X Reaction

Yeah, more than a few of us here in the US are heavier than would be ideal (myself definitely included). Plenty of weight rating for my needs, though.

Elon Musk Founder 1 Data and VIN Plate [photos] and My Initial X Reaction

Some quick arithmetic: reports are that the curb weight is about 5400 lbs., so that means that it can carry about 1368 lbs. of passengers and cargo. 7 big adults would be too much, but a couple of big adults, a bunch of kids, and some suitcases or whatever should be fine.

Official EPA range is 257/250 for X90D/XP90D

It's also possible that they won't make a X70D--that the plan is to have an X90D and later an X100D (or whatever the next size up will be). Or they could be taking a wait and see attitude.

Poll: Lose your one middle seat for cargo storage

I found the question really ambiguous. Are you asking "will you buy the Model X despite these changes?" Are you asking "will you configure your Model X with 6 seats instead of 7 for extra cargo space?" How should people who plan on buying the 7 seat configuration answer? I'm definitely in...
