Help, Summon Standby is Emptying Battery

So much for "sustainable transport" when our cars are burning 5kwh just sitting still. That would increase my 7 person household consumption by 30% doing absolutely nothing. This shouldn't even by an option if thats the price. Multiply this over the fleet and it's an immense waste of energy. I...

    Not missing this

Get a battery snowblower. No more gas/mixing/winterizing/priming/pulling/etc.

Anybody else get the feeling we'll hear about more than the Model Y on the 14th?

Model Y is a big enough release which doesn't require additional news to create a media storm. Why release more than necessary on same day? If anything is announced in addition to the Y, it will be minor stuff.

No heated steering wheel? (Leaf and Bolt have it)

Gloves shouldn't even be a consideration here. Model 3 relies far too heavily on the center screen for almost all controls. I use touch screen gloves in my car now for very limited phone input, but touch screen gloves are not the same as a bare hand. It's still like wearing a condom.

What are some currently unavailable features that could lead to cancelling your reservation?

FOB would be nice. Ridiculous that it's something I even have to want.

Why does Tesla use a Resistance Heater instead of Heat Pump

Modern heat pumps are significantly more efficient than resistant heat down to -22F. People who think heat pumps don't work in cold climates are basing their information off 1990's knowledge.

    Efficient Heating

Modern minisplit heat pumps with variable speed compressors have efficiency ratings up to 14-15 HSPF. This is 400-440% efficiency vs resistant heat at 100%. SEER ratings are also at 30+ now. This would be probably impossible to squeeze into a car though and changes would need to be made.

Old Gas Auto Factory vs. Electric Factory

I toured the Mercedes plant in Alabama. It looked more like the Tesla plant. Clean. Impressive automation. Definitely an eye-opener at the time in 2008 when I visited on where automation was headed.

Anyone interested in buying my reservation?

Keep your reservation. Order it ASAP with basic options/common color (silver if free, otherwise whatever is free) and list it the day you get it at Price+$5000. Pocket the $5k + EV rebate. I'm confident this will work. This car will have PS3-type hype around it when the first ones start...

Powerwall - Numbers don't add up (for me at least)

You need to tackle the efficiency of your home. I'm in 3800sqft plus basement 1970's home with four children under 8 years old who seem to only know how to switch a light in one direction (on) and love to cuddle up in electric blankets every morning in their underwear. We are at 309kwh for this...

    Fatal autopilot crash, NHTSA investigating...

Tesla's direction and approach before impact (straight away, no major elevation changes/cresting) - Semi pulls in front from left at cross section going right into BP side street. (edited for correction) Tractor trailer turns left in front of Tesla into BP street (correction from original...

    I can't imagine - What will part 2 bring?!

JB already said Model 3 will consist of two variants. Part 2 will be the next variant of the Model 3. I'm hoping CUV/Liftback type.

Gas car parked at a Supercharger

Rest areas, national parks, and scenic areas are all public areas funded by the public. No supercharger should be there and the public shouldn't and wouldn't allow it (for good reason). Just need to find locations where the spots aren't convenient for ICEing. Malls will fill up and people...

    Dissing Tesla Reliability

Stop drinking the koolaid and get over yourselves. The Model S is a fantastic vehicle which is produced by a manufacturer which is still in its infancy. It's not as reliable as most tried and true vehicles on the road. All data points to that fact and there is no data that suggests it to be...

    Model X vs Volvo XC90

According to EURO NCAP, the XC90 is superior in every category. Both are 5 stars, but you still have significantly better ratings on the XC90. Stop using pictures to judge a vehicles safety. Official Volvo XC90 2015safety rating results Euro NCAP | Car Details It's unfortunate the Model S is...

    Missed opportunity: No inverter

No reason to not have USB charge ports accessible in every seating position. Most SUVs have USB/12v/110v Inverters. Our town and country has 110v plug in the back seating area. There is a ton of opportunity with Tesla since they have 70-90kw of power to work with. This could power the average...

Will Falcon Wing doors start to irritate you?

Once our four kids are buckled in, I take my seat and close all open doors using the dedicated button near the sunglasses holder above the center console for the side and tailgate. By the time my seat belt is fastened and in Drive, all doors are closed and ready to go. We have Costco runs down...

Configuration of 2 captains chairs and 6 seats is available now.

So this 6-seat configuration matches that of our current Town and Country. To sum it up: -Lose armrests on captain second row seats (huge comfort while riding) -Lose recline of both 2nd/3rd row (another comfort and necessary for proper installation of various car seats for proper leveling/fit)...
