Petition against crippling Tesla Autopilot in Europe

I don't think a petition can be changed after it's already been signed 2000 times (in a day). And as the regulation is created by a former Daimler engineer and Audi has already asked for an exception, I think it's safe to assume this is a deliberate attempt to block the rise of Tesla in Europe...

Petition against crippling Tesla Autopilot in Europe

A friend of mine started a petition to stop the crippling of Autopilot in Europe, directed at the decision makers in Europe. Please sign to try and make things move. If there are other ways you can contribute to avoid stopping progress, please do. It's up to us! Stop crippling Tesla Autopilot...

Let the hacking begin... (Model S parts on the bench)

It's an interesting discussion. The advantage to write it to eMMC is that it will be saved upon reboot. Now, a mechanism to copy it to eMMC upon reboot can accommodate for that unless for those times that the system cannot properly shutdown any more. Or when serious problems are suspected, the...

Let the hacking begin... (Model S parts on the bench)

I can add something like this to FreedomEV, in that way it's easy to enable/disable that feature, because in certain cases Tesla Service might want to be able to look at logs beyond reboots. In the enabled case, I can also prune the logfiles more often so they keep a small RAM footprint (we...

Let the hacking begin... (Model S parts on the bench)

You're probably only interested in those logs which remain after a reboot in those cases where they can't be written anymore. I understand why Tesla chose this solution. But it's always a tradeoff. Are there a lot of actual cases where the eMMC is dying on the Tesla MCUs?

    From Tesla Hacking to FreedomEV

Having root access is a prerequisite. I see 3 ways: - Someone on this forum might be able to help out. - Tesla Service technicians and third party service providers with Toolbox access should also be able to provide it. - There are also rumours that Tesla is considering to give root access to...

Software Update 2018.39 4a3910f (plus other v9.0 early access builds)

Please stop hitting the server. It will not 'accidentally' surface on my server. (especially you; chinese IP 202.38.75.150, come on: 700 hits in 14 hours?) Tesla asked me kindly to remove the download. So I did. They pointed out to me that there might be regulatory issues in certain regions...

Long (50 min) 2018.39.2.1 mad max driving in Europe - the last one?

The settings to disable that confirmation are hidden in this build. So if you want to experiment with it, I presume extra attention is required. It can be enabled through being root on the cid. Also without, on a one-time basis (connect a device every time). I advise that if you want to...

Long (50 min) 2018.39.2.1 mad max driving in Europe - the last one?

I think it was only confused at the highway intersection because the extra needed napping for European highways isnt there yet. In the US it indicates visually which highways work. As for dense traffic. It works! It might do it a little bit differently than what you're used to, but it really...

Long (50 min) 2018.39.2.1 mad max driving in Europe - the last one?

As asked on this forum, I made a new movie with Mad Max mode turned on with unattended lane changes on my updated Model X. This time it's running 2018.39.2.1. It needed a little more variables enabled from the command-line to make it do it's thing. I told Tesla, that if they contact me to stop...

About the 'corner cases', the 39.0.1, which I tested didn't perform well in (very) bad weather. Hold Steering Wheel every 20-25 seconds?

Can't Tesla measure a (much) lighter amount of torque? I really don't mind holding my steering wheel, I do it all the time, but even in the previous interval it rarely detects my (very light) hand pressure. So I 'wobble' the steering wheel periodically. The old interval was already nearly too...

    Model X Delivery Checklist

When we bought our CPO Tesla Model S from 2014, it was almost flawless. We insisted on a replacement windshield and hood prior to accepting delivery - as we were inside we couldn't really judge the extend of the problem. Afterwards, outside, it turned out to be minor issues, but they were...

Road noise in MX vs. MS

We had wind leaking in through our back FWD window. I didn't realise that for a long time. Perform the following test: have someone drive you at highway speeds, follow with your finger slowly the glass. If you feel air movement, report it to your service center. In our case I suspected they...

Did you find any defects at all with the car? I have never heard about a full 'goody bag', but we got a Tesla umbrella. In our case, the sales specialist did promise something which didn't happen. Tesla did a good effort to make up for it. So it's probably a good idea to ask about it. I...

So, when is APv2 going to be noticeably better than APv1? Or is it already?

I just did a road trip of 2000km with 99% AP2, and drive mostly with AP2 enabled otherwise (both on local roads and highways). I think certain roads are 'known' better than other ones. Certain less popular routes farther away from SuperChargers perform noticeably worse - I think it's because...

So, when is APv2 going to be noticeably better than APv1? Or is it already?

While I had hoped that the AP2 development would have gone faster, I really love it and use it all the time. I compared it with an AP1 loaner, and the AP1 feels more solid and more predictable, but also not so good when lane markings go away or on local roads. Maybe we should compile a list to...

Pros and Cons of 5 Seater MX vs new 7 Seater?

I really like and need the extra space the 5 seater provides. In fact, I always leave the false floor out unless I put the matras inside to sleep in it :) The trunk of the 6/7-seater looks very, very tiny in comparison.

When do you think the 2170 battery comes to MX and MS?

180 degree turn by Elon Musk. Maybe to stop people postponing their buy, yet it seems contradictory with: "Model 3 isn't the next generation Tesla"... Might just be because of production scaling limitations, as the article suggests. Anyway a bit sad. Tesla Model S, X has no plans to use 2170...

    17.22.46 - real full changelog

Verygreen clearly has more knowledge about what's on the car than me - I still have to (try to) look. But the kernel config he posted did not point to any realtime patches nor xenomai. The realtime patches might make the UI a little bit less laggy. But as gearchruncher indicated, there is no...
