Model X aftermarket hitch receiver options

So, the vertical limit is essentially raised to the limit of the hitch itself (I believe it's about 750 pounds). Now, that said, that's the limit for the hitch itself. It's also a matter of what the limits are for the metal it's attached to (the frame of the Tesla) - so there's always some...

Model X aftermarket hitch receiver options

I ended up going with an aftermarket hitch installed by Rack Attack - removed the original and put in a class 3 hitch with a 2 inch receiver. It's certainly more robust and durable. They had to cut out an opening into the original hitch cover for the end of the new hitch - so it's always...

Model S windshield cracks almost every winter

Do you have it such that it automatically goes straight to defrost mode? If so, turn it off. I can't remember if it was an option on the older ones, but I know that with the newer ones I would let it preheat for at least 20 before considering putting it on full defrost. That way the glass has a...

Etobicoke Showroom and Service Centre - now open

So, I happened to drive by today, then checked on the Tesla map - the Etobicoke showroom and service centre is now open! I'm looking forward to not having to make a long trek to get things done.

2022 Model X Instrument Panel failure

Well, the screen blackouts kept getting worse over the weekend. On Monday running up to the service center the screen would not return despite several reboots. Of course once I arrived, the technician came out and lo and behold, the screen was working. He did acknowledge that it does happen and...

    How would you handle this...

Sadly, you are right - it's a combination of laziness and selfishness. Unfortunately you probably won't get anywhere with them. Probably the only solution is to petition to have the charger moved to the furthest point away in the parking lot, but odds are that won't happen unless someone is...

2022 Model X Instrument Panel failure

Further to this: this has been happening regularly for the past few days. NEVER try to do a simple soft reboot! Doing so left both screens black, the PRND controls on the base wouldn't work to move it. Thankfully, a hard reboot fixed it after a few anxious minutes. Going into service come Monday.

2022 Model X Instrument Panel failure

So, for the past few days the instrument panel has been acting finicky in my 2022 Model X - going out, coming back on, sometimes a reboot (soft/hard and even a complete shutdown) helps, but it's very random when and if it comes back on. At one point, with the sunlight in just the right position...

    Round steering wheel

If offered, would people go for the one from the CyberTruck? I'd need to drive with it to see if there's a difference or not, but my thinking is that you can, somewhat, let the wheel spin in your hands without losing contact. Kind of seems like a better compromise. Now, if they only include the...

Cold weather and smart air suspension issue

I've previously had the issue especially if the slush on the ground gets up and around the suspension and then freezes. Once it thaws a bit it goes away - I've taken it to a car wash and if it's a long enough cycle, it immediately went away.

    Big decision....

Do you have any indicators that makes you feel that either the pack or the drive unit is having trouble? I'd go for a test drive with either the new S or X (or even the revised 3 if it comes in for test drives) before you think that the revisions would be worth it. After over a year, I'm still...

Supercharging growth lagging compared to sales

Struja, the good news is that there are nearby alternatives. There's supposed to be an alternate built near to Vaughan Mills this year and one has recently opened up north of Dixie Outlet Centre.

Supercharging growth lagging compared to sales

Given we're now into 2024, looking at the SC map, there's only a scant few new chargers planned for this year across Canada. According to the Tesla map, there's 4 spots with a yellow star and a handful of grey "opening in 2024". I'm hoping that there will be more forthcoming or perhaps that some...

Model X - Active Venting Groan

Anyone else have experience with a really loud groan coming from the active vents under the vehicle? In the past couple of days, it's gotten far worse. It can either be a short (about 5 seconds) or a long (15 seconds). Only happens when initiating start up (pressing the brake pedal). I'll...

Tesla refusing to transfer lifetime supercharging after taking delivery.....disappointing.

If the agent is acting on Tesla's behalf, then the onus is on their side to corroborate the deal prior to the final agreement. If, as it turns out, Tesla refuses to stand behind their agent's decision/error, then Tesla either needs to honour the agreement or at least allow the buyer to back out...

Supercharger - Mississauga, ON - N Service Road

Which will be first: the commissioning of the Superchargers or the bridge being raised across the highway? Progress has been slow over the past few months.

    Canadian Stores and Service Centers

Although essentially heresay, I was talking with a service guy up at the Chrislea site and he mentioned that the Etobicoke service centre is being delayed. From the looks of things, he may be correct - minimal amount of work seems to be ongoing and I've not seen any crews in there as of late.

Supercharger - Mississauga, ON - N Service Road

That's a good thing. It's always a pinch point just east of there for the westbound. Gardiner, 427, West Mall all merges, then the Dixie exit. Yet nobody can think ahead and tries to get to the exit last second. If they improve the flow of traffic it's got to be a good thing despite the...

Supercharger - Mississauga, ON - N Service Road

I see that. It's been a mess for decades, especially the westbound exit by my recollection. Unfortunately, I don't think it'll ever be a great point given all the merges and such. I gather they're going to put back the walkway overpass too.

Supercharger - Mississauga, ON - N Service Road

Sort of - at least more direct than getting to Sherway SC off the highway. Yes, you get off at Cawthra and follow the North Service Road. Reverse to get back on the highway. It's generally a short ride, however, it's a fairly busy road. Hopefully with the ongoing construction they'll put in some...

Supercharger - Mississauga, ON - N Service Road

I just saw this from the QEW today and I just found this thread. Look like some decent progress being made. Funny part is that it's not shown on the Tesla Supercharger map unless it's the general non-discript one. Hopefully, it'll open early this fall and give some relief to Sherway. Glad to see...

Supercharging growth lagging compared to sales

Vaughan Mills, Sherway Gardens, usually northern cottage country (Barrie - especially the south one) and even Bracebridge. I know that it could be a coincidence of timing, but I also think that it's only going to get busier as time passes. What's proposed will help but I don't think it'll be...

Supercharging growth lagging compared to sales

Traveling around Ontario this summer, I'm noticing how most Supercharger sites are in full usage more often. Looking at the expansion plans available on Tesla's website it seems as if it's lagging comparatively to the sales of new vehicles. With the impending adoption of the Tesla plug by other...

Tesla will allow transfer FSD to a new Tesla only till the end of September?

This is the first sign of Tesla budging on this issue. I'm sure they're using it to gauge it's reception. I'm hoping that they'll make it a permanent option, especially given the up front costs.

Drove by yesterday - the signage is up, so hopefully, it'll be open soon! Still looks like it needs some work though.

    2022 Model X - glitchy system

Yesterday, for no particular reason I had both front screens go black - car has been stable since I've received it last year. I had left the car running the a/c on Dog Mode for about 5 minutes before returning (which I've done many times before). It took roughly 5 minutes to get the car to...

    Tesla mic

Probably the only way to get the Tesla mic is to get the Tesla MIC.
  28. T

    Model X Road Trips

You're probably better off just getting a wheeled trailer, especially given the 120 pound vertical weight limit. The box combined with the hitch mount would probably get close to that limit anyway. It's absurdly low especially given that you don't have a real roof option.

Rogers is the carrier for Tesla Canada?

On Telus' side? Maybe, but odds are we'll never know since that is backend stuff the community as a whole aren't privy to. Not likely to be on Tesla's side given I've not seen any updates for a while now and it's clearly stated that the issue is with the carrier - in this case, that's Telus...

    Canada - FSD rollout

I was thinking of asking if anyone had received it yet. It seemed to be a little quiet since the rollout commenced (ie. I've not got it yet). Could your situation (fast lane hogging) be a matter of how you've got FSD setup?

Tesla now offering extended service agreements for certain vehicles

Interesting, but seems to be applicable to the US currently. I would consider it with my X and may consider it for my Y given the heat pump issues a couple of years ago. I would look at the details closely before buying to see what exactly is covered and what's negated.

    In-app Extended Warranty

I saw a Facebook post indicating that someone was able to add in an extended warranty through the Tesla app. I'm assuming it's in the US only right now, but has anyone in Canada seen this or is able to access it? Obviously, there's other factors such as whether your vehicle applies, but I'm...

Failed heat pump and supermanifold, out of warranty - $ouch

Yeah, after looking through a few pages of the other thread these are the key points: 1) Only applies to 2021-22 S3XY cars delivered with a specific version of software: Tesla's heat pump problem causing loss of heat explained in new NHTSA recall 2) There's not a whole heap of a lot of problems...

Failed heat pump and supermanifold, out of warranty - $ouch

That would be tough, but I would still mention it to the service centre staff - no need to rant on it. Still, you shouldn't let it go just because the vehicle is out of warranty, especially if you suspect the damage might be due to this situation. I'm glad that your car has managed to hold up...
  36. T

Failed heat pump and supermanifold, out of warranty - $ouch

Yes, it would be a tall feat to get Tesla to take accountability - that even shows up in the other thread. Still, he has a case to at least express it to Tesla.

    Ontario - Flo chargers

Finally got a chance to use the Flo charger at Horseshoe this past weekend. I used the ChargePoint app. It went off with almost no hitches - just that the image has the chargers flipped on the 3-4 stalls (3 was 4 and 4 was 3). It took a couple of minutes to figure that out, then tried charging...

Failed heat pump and supermanifold, out of warranty - $ouch

Given the "software" issue of a couple of winters ago which involved overrunning the pump in the winter and having problems with the active vents, I would put it back to Tesla to look into how much that contributed to this breakdown, if it is indeed the Supermanifold. This is the thread: Recent...

    Supercharger - Etobicoke ON

Yes. I've also seen it being fully utilized with all [working] chargers occupied, but yes, it's also been marked full when there's been few cars there. Hard to know how quickly the info is updated. Still wish they'd get around to marking up which chargers aren't working too.

    SC lineup in Vaughan

The way I see it, the pre-fabs might help as they might require less inspections. If the units are certified (I guess at the government level), then it might just be a matter of checking final connections. It might not be all that much time savings in the end, but that's the hope.
  41. T

    SC lineup in Vaughan

Understood, but some of the more "popular" places should still be under consideration for review. I get what you're saying about expansion as opposed to more complicated upgrading, but at some point it's justifiable. It'll depend upon whether Tesla also opens up their chargers too. If the Tesla...

    SC lineup in Vaughan

Yes, I agree. It takes an awfully long time to get things going. I think Bracebridge was on the plan for at least 3 years before it finally was completed late last year. This is why the pre-fab units might help with the expansion. The other part of the equation is how Tesla is making decisions...

    SC lineup in Vaughan

They did that at Sherway. They upgraded it from the Urban chargers to 150kW chargers. If the infrastructure is there and it can support the higher loads, it would be better since the 250kW chargers are linked/shared together like the 150kWs and it would significantly improve throughput. While...

    SC lineup in Vaughan

Well, they did add one at Bracebridge recently, but I'm hoping that if they're using the quick install platformed Superchargers it'll allow for more to pop up in the short term. There's supposed to be a second site forthcoming in Vaughan too.

    SC lineup in Vaughan

Some point last August I ended up at Vaughan Mills for a Supercharger on return from Muskoka. Worst mistake I ever made. When I got my turn, I charged enough to get home plus a bit extra for just in case. Drivers are borderline aggressive and totally impatient/selfish/inconsiderate so I'm not in...

Model X Refresh driver side doors sensing obstruction that isn't there....

One thing I've noticed - at least on mine, is that cleaning the car makes a difference. Although there wasn't anything heavily coating the door, there was a thin layer of road salt and after cleaning it off, everything seemed to go back to normal. Any chance that the salt layer might have some...

    Road trips below -20C

Mixed bag in my opinion. It's generally better IF the car is preheated while using the wall connector and it's had time to warm up the pack. I've had a couple of trips where it was not attached to any chargers while away (so the pack was essentially cold soaked) and got even worse than 50%...

    Cross country skis

I've got a Thule Ski rack (Thule SnowPack Extender) attached to Tesla crossbars used on both an S and a Y. While they work quite well (and they're lockable, can slide to the side in order to load them), in hindsight, I'd say either put them inside the car or get a full on cargo carrier...

    Considering 2023 MX--The Yoke is a concern.

That's probably why the added extra noise insulation in the glass. I know that when I'm yelling (because I can't find the damned horn) the other people don't even look. With the tinted glass it's like I'm invisible. It would be a whole heap of a lot better if they just fixed the 3 inherent...
