Vendor Mountain Pass Performance Intro - Updates

I know it's early to ask, but will you also have these for the Dual Motor?

Considering canceling due to size, lack of sunroof, and lack of power lift gate

My 10 E63 had a Power Close button. Also, it opened slightly or maybey even all the way, when released via the Fob or Latch Button. I can see the elegance of Power Close and the new Handless Open (that some new SUV have), even on a Sedan.

Any non-employee get to configure their Model 3 yet?

^ Does Tesla check current ownership status? If so, how? Seems like previous owners would still be on a list showing a Tesla Purchase.

    question on tinting

^ I used to do similar, back in the day. However, I now consider it too dark, during evening time. I now use: 75-80 40-45 40-45 I find the rear to be more detrimental to visibility, at distance (especially in evening) because it is looked thru indirectly, via a rear view mirror. (Much harder to...

    Wheel Manufacturer

I think its the Buick owner, who would be ashamed to use a Model 3 Aero Wheel.

No hatchback simply a point of differentiation?

Wow, Laban's 5 Door should be a future Model 3 option. The Y, being a crossover, would probably have a raised ride height, which ruins handling.

Has anyone seen any info on the next 100 Model 3s to be delivered?

Thought this thread was about seeing some more Model 3 deliveries. Now its about Maintenance comparisons? Guess there are not any Model 3 deliveries to talk about yet ; )

Light color on dashboard is a NO

I have a light dash car now. It has massive reflections on the front glass. I almost never notice it, while driving. I do notice the dashboard, all the time, so I prefer what looks best.

Going to pass on AWD to get my Model 3 sooner, anyone else doing the same?

Can't compare EV AWD to ICE AWD, because ICE don't Regen. Regen on front wheels is more effective and stable. Otherwise, I would prefer RWD (as I do on any ICE). I can't imagine Rear Wheel Regen in snow, or on icy roads, the Traction Control would be working overtime. But I live in SoCal ; )

Guesses on "token of appreciation" for line waiters tweeted by Elon Musk

I waited in line & never got the picture, plus my reservation never showed up in My Tesla, until they finally fixed it last month. Took 6 phone calls, since reserving. Waiting to see what gift I may get. Do agree that any S/X/Roadster buyer deserves something also. However, dont S/X already get...

Model 3 Rear Window: Only Partial Tinting

^ It would cost a fortune to tint the roof & rear glass, considering the size and curvature. Lots of opportunity to get shrink marks and bubbles in the tint. I hope Tesla offers a Full Rear Glass Tint option, in states where Rear Tint is allowed. I'll pay the obscene Tesla Option price for that.
  12. L

Model 3 Rear Window: Only Partial Tinting

Some states allow any darkness, on rear window, so lets hope Tesla has full tint available in those states.

WSJ Journalist Trials and Tribulations During Model 3 Drive

I know it does, I just don't own a GLA. If I have to drive one again, I will try Holding the Park Button, while shifting to Drive/Rev, to see what happens.
  14. L

WSJ Journalist Trials and Tribulations During Model 3 Drive

I have to call BS. I can't think of a car that wont exit Park, when shifted to Drive or Reverse. Sounds like a software bug that Tesla should fix. As voip-ninja mentioned, a warning could have displayed, on that giant 15" screen, if the car doesn't like having the Park Button pressed, while...

    Model 3 AutoPilot Apocalypse

Driving is like any skill, in that you need continuous practice to be proficient. Once people start leaning on AP, their driving skills will deminish and they will be less prepared to handle the car, when called upon to intervene. Not saying that will be an issue for every person, but I do...

Will you still buy a Model 3 if the federal tax credit ends?

Cars depreciate like falling rocks, regardless of Tax Credit. Don't kid yourself into thinking that a higher net cost will decrease depreciation. In my case, with leasing a Volt, the Tax Credit translated into a $5500 Cap Reduction on my Volt Lease. It significantly lowered my lease payment...
  17. L

What will a lease look like on this?

In CA you need to keep an EV for 30 months, in order to retain the CA Rebate. Therefore a 24 month lease would not be a good idea. Not sure how it is in other states. I also would like a Zero Down, but could settle for $2500 max down.

Time to open listings w/ random reservation numbers, to get them cancled, and move yourself up in line.

    Dual motor Qs and speculation

To me the main benefit of Dual Motors is getting Regen on the front wheels. Although, it seems to not benefit range as much as I would have expected. However, I can only speculate that the car will feel more stable under regen, especially in traction challenged situations. Secondly, I hope...

Suspension / Ride Quality / Handling - Too firm or Just Right?

It probably is a stiff ride, which is true to the description of 19" Sport Wheels. Those wanting a smooth ride, should stay with the 18" wheels. Save the $1500 and apply towards aftermarket wheels, if you find the Aero Wheels unsightly (that's my plan now). Also, I'd bet the smaller battery...

    Delivery Estimator CHANGED...

Interesting, since this morning.... AWD changed to July-Sept from Sept-Nov. Hoping that's still good for the Tax Credit.

Stop whining! Read this before another whine thread!

More like > $50K for a desirable configuration. Even then, the car is kind of toyish, with the Smart Phone Access & Tablet on the dash. 206er's point was that the car is not saving people money over other EV and efficient ICE options. For instance the 2018 Camry gets 39mpg highway for <$25K and...

Here is why I'm getting the bare bones 35k T3

Good points. Just wory how bad the base interior will be. There was talk of open center console and cheap materials. All cars used for test drives had the Premium Package.

    Model 3 engineering model spotted

LOL, although I think they are better than the Aero wheels.

No Vented / Air Conditioned Seat Option

Had cooled seats on all my last 3 recently purchased cars (except my volt). I was not that impressed with the seat cooling on either car (Mercedes, Porsche, Cadillac), although it did help slightly. Somehow the Volt w/ its perf leather in light gray, stays similarly cool. I think the people...

Why Are You Not Cancelling Your Reservation?

Want to keep my option open, before Tax Credit is gone. Admit, I'm not planning to place an M3 order yet, based on what I saw at the deliverey event.

Model 3 entry via ... keycard & app. No fob.

I doubt they would use an RFID type Card Device to operate the car. Such items have questionable reliability & signal strength. Too much risk of leaving people stranded by a malfunctioning card. Also, if they did use a card, I'm sure there would be a slot, to park it, on that huge empty dash.
  28. L

Model 3 entry via ... keycard & app. No fob.

No worries on those concerns. Cars w/ Keyless Operation know if the Fob is inside or outside the car. I believe they use triangulation from multiple sensors. Car would have to be left on and running for someone to drive off in it. For example, when you get dropped off but forget to pass the fob...

    Gasoline fights back

Once, maybe twice, a month, usually after a long trip. Got a Volt, so it just switches to Hybrid Mode. Still painful enough to prevent me from forgetting again, for several weeks. Hope to be better conditioned by the time I get my Tesla.
  30. L

    Gasoline fights back

Forgeting to gas up, is still better than forgeting to charge.
  31. L

Will M3 be released as MY 2017 or 2018?

It does matter, because you are forced into keeping a car long term, when you might desire to get out of it sooner. Unfortunately, all cars are depreciating like crazy, with the expensive cars being the most brutal. One needs to be more cautious what they buy, as more money is at risk these days.
  32. L

    Model 3 Reality Check.

MB is very reliable (had 3). Biggest negative is the massive depreciation (lease is cheaper than buying). Porsche 911 [991] is the most dealer visits, for any car I ever owned. 30K miles and never broke, but lots of annoying malfunctions. If you worry about Tesla relibality (especially on Model...

i was wondering....How many model 3 reservationists will...

Sure I would, even had slower. Owned a Smart car, as my commuter, back in 08. Loved the Smart and Volt, because they did exactly what they were designed to do. Depends on the role each car serves. I want the 3 to be my fun car as well as my hypermileing car. I only want it, because I know Tesla...

Lights at night (low res images)

Yes, too heavy & bad styling. Newest one looks better, but I'd take an S over it any day. Also, I'd bet the 3 Nose gets restyled before 2Y. Still hoping its fixed in actual production (which nobody has really seen yet).
  35. L

    Model 3 interior

Agreed, but if you got 10Y out of a Leather Seat Cover, that's excellent. Leather Seat Covers are wear items, that need to be replaced, when they start looking bad. Doing so renews your car and brings back the new car smell.
  36. L

    What if no Model 3?

If keeping your current car, I think it would be representative to vote for it, as the Type of Car you would buy (provided it was a somewhat recent purchase). That's how I voted, PHEV (currently leased).

i was wondering....How many model 3 reservationists will...

LOL - Thought about that.... I would strongly consider the new 4.3s RWD S 75, ff they didn't shrink the RWD Frunk (from the size it used to be). This latest S 75 is great bang for the buck, but with such a huge car, I want to have that extra cargo capacity. Current car is a 13 911s at 3.9s...

Hope you get to go. What time is the event? I want to make sure to watch the live stream.
  39. L

Lights at night (low res images)

Agreed, Tail Lights could be better, but not the worst. That nose shot is what bothers me. There must be aerodynmic reasons for that front nose. I like the new S nose, but the 3 nose is wierd in a bad way.
  40. L

i was wondering....How many model 3 reservationists will...

Kind of true, because I also want track capability, but can settle for a real fun street car. 3.5s would be needed to beat my last cars and the new $70K ICE competitors. Hugely impressed w/ the 4.3s RWD S75. But the size & weight detracts too much from the fun. Figuring a Performance 3 (@ mid...

i was wondering....How many model 3 reservationists will...

I'll wait for <3.5s 0-60. I want the car to be fun. No interest in dropping $40K for basic transportation. $60K for a turbo slayer, is a lot more appealing. Might be deferring my spot, but hopefully not to the point of loosing the full Tax Credit.

What is Tesla basing the geographic prioritization on?

You just need a non-PObox address (or a PObox address, that looks like a physical address). Then pay tax & reg for that state. All states love taking your money, so they make it real easy for you. For reg in the 2nd state, if its within 1Y you might need to pay additional sales tax, but only if...

Thinking Outside the Box: Model 3 to be offered through Costco?

Costco would want some Value Add, for their members. Such as; discount, extra warranty, options packages.... Costco could use their website to take the order or allow their Deal Code to be used at a Tesla Store. Not sure how Costco could handle Test Drives, but I suppose that can be handled...

    Model 3 features?

Brawner/all, Do you think 17" wheels are significantly better on range than 18"? Assuming tire & wheel weights are within 1-2lb of each other. If so, by about how much? Been debating wheel choices for my current EV.
  45. L

    Model 3 features?

I hope they add blended brakes (ducking & hiding). Regen on throttle can remain as is though (not complaining about that, because they have a light mode).

Charging Infrastructure - Condo owners, and others in a similar position

What is the wattage of your AC Unit and the size breaker feeding it? That sounds the most promising, but will require a switch box be added. I have a switch box on my dryer outlet and it works great.
  47. L

Why regenerative braking belongs on the brake pedal

Tesla will get it right, after...... they give people a choice. They are 1/2 way there with Single Pedal Regen choices. Now they need to offer Break Pedal Regen choices. When I try Throttle Pedal Regen, on my Volt, I can only stand it for about 30s. I could deal with it, but glad to have the...

    Accidentally made 2 reservations...

I have a feeling Tesla will let people transfer registrations to immediate family members (provided they are in the same region or at least the same household). When they wrote the agreement, they had no idea that forcing a family member to get their own reservation could mean them being bumped...

Why no regen braking system in actual brakes as well as motor regen?

Wow, sorry to hear about the bad blended brakes on Leaf and Prius. However, Volt (Gen 2) Blended Braking has been a revelation, it works perfectly. Having the latest gen 911, I know what great brakes feel like and Blended Brakes are excellent when done correctly. Tesla only gives 60kW of regen...
  50. L

Why no regen braking system in actual brakes as well as motor regen?

Agreed. I like coast off throttle and blended braking on brake pedal. I see no advantage to regen off throttle. It could be a user choice for off throttle behavior. Either way, more regen could be used and controlled via blended braking.
