When is the DMV going to get a viable third-party mechanic/shop?

The DMV must have one of the highest concentrations of Tesla vehicles outside of California, and many of them are outside of Warranty coverage. I would really like an option besides the Service Center for small things that anyone with some degree of experience can fix. My own Model S needs...

    Dulles Airport EV Charging

Had to travel for work last week and decided to try out the new charging areas at IAD daily parking. I went into Daily Garage 1 and headed for Level 3. The green lighting is super helpful to locate the areas with charging. The low-letter (around D-E-F-G IIRC) section was completely full, maybe...

    DMV Winter Tire discussion

Twice now -- my MS and my son's econobox -- I've bought from Tire Rack and chosen their mobile installer. The work is done at your home (or office) and both times it's been easy and very professional.

    DMV Winter Tire discussion

Funny you mention that... one of my new Vredesteins got a puncture and a slow-but-steady leak. That clinched the decision to put on the Sottozeros. The timing worked out too; yesterday seemed like the first really wintery day on the roads (and potential snow next weekend!). They are, however...

    DMV Winter Tire discussion

I've had my 2013 Model S (RWD) for seven years now, and most of those years I've swapped to a set of Pirelli Sottozero tires for the winter. I have them mounted and balanced on a spare set of wheels, so it's easy to do the changeover myself. I know that they theoretically grip cold surfaces...

    Maintenance for 2013 Model S

I purchased a pre-owned 2013 Model S in August of 2016. At the time, the car had 41,000 miles. I was told that as part of the CPO refresh (yes, back then there was a true CPO program!), the battery coolant flush/replacement had been completed prior to my taking delivery. I believe that was...

Supercharger - West Springfield, VA (cancelled)

This is a good location within Cardinal Forest. Easy in/out of the lot, but in an area that typically isn't crowded. And easy to walk to McDonalds, Panera, Whole Foods, and the various offices (including our pediatrician) across Traford Ln.

Supercharger - West Springfield, VA (cancelled)

Wow! This was my grocery store when I lived in West Springfield. Now I'm about 5 miles away but this still might be the most convenient SuC to me. PS: the Cardinal Forest Shell station is one of the places I trust to do the annual Virginia inspection on a Tesla.

Wiki Consolidated eMMC Thread (MCU repair) (Black Center Screen)

For anyone keeping score at home, my car is back in today for a new screen. They agreed to cover the part but charged me for the labor, claiming "there's nothing in the eMMC recall service that could have caused the bubbles" but they were trying to be generous. Whatever, I'll live with it. I...

Wiki Consolidated eMMC Thread (MCU repair) (Black Center Screen)

I don't believe so. When I picked up the car immediately after service, there were bubbles near the left edge of the screen. Over the next day or two, they migrated to the top. The fact that the bubbles appeared in a different position than where they usually end up suggests to me that they were...

Wiki Consolidated eMMC Thread (MCU repair) (Black Center Screen)

I made a service appointment for the eMMC daughterboard replacement, and asked that they upgrade 3G to LTE at the same time. The service was completed in one day ($200 for the LTE upgrade) but when I got the car back, there were bubbles in the screen (had never had bubbles prior to this) and...

I went by there last week and based on the activity I saw, I would guess that the petroleum tanks are now in the ground on the east side of the lot. Subtle beep at 25mph

I have a 2013 MS 60 (pre-AP), and I'm pretty sure it's done this as long as I've owned it. After starting up, the first time the car hits 25mph, there is a subtle single "beep" sound. It's easiest to hear with the radio off & HVAC off. It doesn't seem to come through the speakers but maybe comes...

    Winter Tires, or no?

Thanks! I'd undergone an engine rebuild shortly before I got the Model S and installed a home L2 circuit. So I'm keeping the 914 relatively true to its era for now. (It's actually stuck in the garage with a dead fuel pump at the moment.) Here's a favorite photo, "2 cars, 4 trunks"

    Winter Tires, or no?

My first winter owning my Model S (RWD), I got nervous and bought a set of Pirelli Sottozeroes from the Service Center. It became a pain having each set of tires mounted & balanced once a year, so I found a good deal on a used second set of wheels (which, to my surprise, came with almost new...

    CPO Limbo

My CPO (back then, it really was) took four weeks to get to me in Virginia from NY/NJ area, but along the way they were kind enough to repaint the front & rear bumpers. It was delivered with a lot of stone chips in the paint on the front hood; I was advised that was "priced in" to the sale price.

    Is 3G coverage getting worse?

Re-awakening an old thread as it's on-topic for me. My 2013 S60 has 3G and it's generally sufficient, but definitely slow and inconsistent. Will Tesla eventually be forced to upgrade the service to LTE for these early cars (at their cost)? Consider that they push software updates over the...

Experience with charging in the street, Arlington, VA?

Software Version 9/10 for Non-AP/Classic Cars

My default in V8 was camera on top, media on bottom. I rarely used Nav because I prefer Waze (on my phone, mounted next to the MCU). I resisted going to V9 until this mode was replicable. I think that's the wrong analogy. You're not a paying passenger in this instance, you're the pilot. It is your job to setup the vehicle to take you to your destination. You need an interface to tell the vehicle where you want to go, and potentially have some input on the route it selects (for...

Petition to demand "camera on top, media player on bottom" be retained in UI

Sure you do. With FSD, it becomes critically important that Driver & Vehicle have a way to interface regarding destination and routing. With manual driving, the car presenting a map is purely informational, and optional, for the driver.
