CA only has the one approved vendor, and you get a letter from the DMV authorizing the use.

you can use the lcd plates with approval from the dmv. of course, you can do anything to make it illegal. doesn't make what you are doing legal. you can do anything with the intent of being legit. doesn't necessarily make it legal.

you can only use dmv issued license plates. you can't make your own. source:dmv

AND, at the end of the day, it's not legal... so there's that.

because they need to have oversight over license plate numbers. if anyone could make anything anytime... that would be a regulatory mess, and open to abuse and criminal activity. Whether you think it's necessary or not, it's another layer of security for the dmv.

i imagine this is frowned upon by the dmv.... you can imagine the problems this would cause with false license plates. If you get pulled over, you are supposed to have the original plate and the letter from dmv approving the wrap in the car.

this is what i am hoping.. .my AP has been problematic more often now... 80% of my drives. but also, if the replacement did make the problem go away, then that would throw a wrench into the software bug theory?

2018 model 3 LR, at 69k miles, 3 yrs 5 mos, car died in my home garage. no warning. 2016 Model S75, at 73k miles, 3 yrs 4 mos, car gave replacement warning, was able to get a service appt within a week. i set a reminder to replace them at 3 yrs.

oct 2016 delivery 75 RWD 80k miles 100% at 213miles 14.5% degradation I think a year ago, I was at 8%. So that kind of sucked.

I got 43k, could've stretched it to 45 safely. RWD. Rotated every 7500. My commute is 35 miles at 75mph zero traffic, which accounts for 300 miles a week. My S, OTOH, I've been unable to get more than 30k... so on the 3rd set of tires. My wife drives that. Infer from that what you will.

the difference in ICE and EV.... the reason ICE gas gauges in % works so well, is because it's easy to fill up when you get low. you don't have to worry about how many miles you have left. However, if you were running low, and the next gas station was 30 miles, I'm sure you would like to know...

miles is easier math; easier to guestimate. especially when I'm trying to plan a route where charging or range comes into play, much easier to plan/guestimate with the miles remaining.

It ain't Beverly Hills, but it also isn't South Stockton. Your chances of being a victim of a crime aren't much higher than any other major city, IMO. you can always hang in the hotel after dark... restaurant open until 11pm. I work across March Lane, and have never felt unsafe in 12 years.

autolock on driveaway. right now, if you unlock/open the doors, while in drive (stopped of course), the car does not autolock when you resume driving. The S has this feature. Seems like an oversight.

My older UMC allows 48A charging. I've always set it to 32A, because I saw some threads and pics here on the UMC breaking down or melting, or whatever... It made sense to me to not have max heat in the handle/port chronically, if I didn't need the charge speed. My newer UMC maxes at 32A.
