Owners delivery stories, photos and first impressions

Welcome to the Tesla family! Nice choice of color. ;) Why did you decide to take delivery in Cincinnati? There are several places around Chicago for Tesla deliveries. In any case, enjoy the car and see you around!

    Firmware 8.1 - Autopilot HW1

What I've noticed so far with 17.24.30 (and really since 17.24.28) is that the AP "nags" occur more often. Previously I hardly ever complain about the nags because I felt they were few and far in between. Now since these 2 updates, the nags appear more frequently, and they appear even during...

    Firmware 8.1 - Autopilot HW1

Last week I installed 17.24.28, and somehow this morning I was notified of another SW update. I did the update, and it's now 17.24.30. No significant release note: I did notice the same thing with 17.24.28. The off-ramp for the highway I take to work has a speed limit of 45 MPH. It used...

Long distance road trip with kids... am I crazy?

I think road trips are very do-able in Tesla's, if you have the right expectations and plan the trip out more carefully than in an ICE. My family and I did a 2,100-mile trip between Chicago and Oklahoma back in March with our 5-year-old twin daughters, and the kids did great. With 5-year-olds...

What should my ideal charge percentage be?

We cannot set the charging limit lower than 50%, though. So I'd recommend leaving the car plugged in and set the charging limit at 50%.

Tesla website Charging page redesign, future SC site location map gone

That's what I came away with, reading the new blog on Tesla's website today: Charging Is Our Priority I know Tesla has made numerous promises and often delayed fulfilling those promises, but it appears that they do believe they will stay at the leading edge of EV. They recognize the...

Yeah, I wish I was more handy myself...

Have to replace a relatively new tire due to a nail

I didn't have ANY leak with the screw in the tire, so it wasn't a matter of having to refill the tire every once a while. I debated about the possibility of just keep driving with the screw in place until it's time to replace all the tires. But ultimately I decided to replace it now because I...

Tire rotation with one new tire

I had a very similar situation with a screw in a tire Have to replace a relatively new tire due to a nail Long story short, my local Tesla SC (Highland Park) replaced the punctured tire. I asked the service advisor whether I needed to replace more than the damaged tire (for balance etc, even...

Have to replace a relatively new tire due to a nail

Alright, so here is the follow up / resolution of my story. I brought the car to a second shop in town (actually a recommended installer of Tire Rack). They also said they would not patch/plug it due to Dept of Transportation regulations. The owner actually wanted to charge me $25 for simply...

    Charging issue

Yellow light means the cars thinks the connection was not properly aligned and therefore would charge at reduced rate. Correct. I think if you see the blue light, the car should charge at the highest rate you set it at (40 or 48A). You shouldn't have to do the extra steps you mentioned later.

    100D price increase?

Sounds like he is indeed pretty aggressive about making a sale. However, the tax credit concern is legit. Tesla should sell past the 200,000 mark this year, if not before Model 3 hits the market. That's one of the reasons I pulled the trigger 8 months ago.
  17. J

    100D price increase?

This is pure speculation, but a price increase on any of the current models doesn't seem to make sense. Today, 4/16/17, is neither the end of the month nor the end of a sales quarter. Previously, Tesla had warned (and proceeded) about price increases. The timing of the price increase or changes...

Have to replace a relatively new tire due to a nail

Good for you that they covered it and Tesla repaired it. I'm wondering, though, how did Discount Tire honor the tire warranty you bought when it was obvious that you bought it after the screw was already in the tire?
  19. J

Have to replace a relatively new tire due to a nail

What do you mean? Are you saying you bought the insurance (is that the same thing as "tire certificate?") AFTER the screw in the tire, and your tire shop replaced it?

Have to replace a relatively new tire due to a nail

Thanks for the suggestion...I'll consider it for future tire purchase / replacement. For now this won't help my current predicament though
  21. J

Have to replace a relatively new tire due to a nail

Well, there is no way I'm going to do it myself, and I don't suppose any reputable garage / tire shop would take on the liability of patching a nail hole that close to the sidewall.

Have to replace a relatively new tire due to a nail

On our recent road trip back home, I discovered a nail in the passenger rear tire (see picture below). We drove for over 600 miles without any change in tire pressure. This morning I brought the car to our local car shop that I like, hoping they can just remove the nail and patch it from the...

Model S 90D charged 100% shows range as 295 miles. How come?

294 miles sounds pretty good. We recently charged to 100% on our 6-month old 90D during a trip, and the computer estimated 291 miles.

Thoughts and Lessons Learned after a one-week, 2,100+ mile IL-OK trip

For my 100th post on TMC, I'd like share my thoughts and lessons learned from our recent 2,170-mile trip between Chicago and Oklahoma with our 6-month-old S 90D (AP1). Trip Planning As suggested by many other experienced EV drivers, I did some careful pre-trip planning using a few different...

    Superchargers super-slow

Tesla mothership probably does have all the data as suggested, but I'd wager to say that they have more important things to pay attention to like developing new hardware and software, getting ready for Model 3 production etc. Like people have pointed out before, there are many variables in slow...

Today we stopped by and charged at the Pleasant Prairie SC on the way home. It was a very pleasant experience, and I thought this SC location deserves its own dedicated thread. On-the-go level 2 charging networks

    Auto Park / Firmware 8

Also, according to the person orienting me to the car at my delivery, auto park (at least for AP1) function is activated only after 100 miles of autopilot driving. That means, a brand new car with AP1 needs 100 miles of AP driving to calibrate before the auto park can be used. So if the OP just...

Should I get a public charging network account?

We have a road trip coming up in a few weeks (Chicago to Oklahoma). Even though there are enough Superchargers along the way, I was wondering if I should still get an account with the public charging networks, just in case we miscalculated our remaining charge during the trip. Are you referring to the Highland Park shin-dig a week or so ago? Was that supposed to be a monthly thing? I doubt it. I was out of town so didn't attend either. But that was the first "social" event for local owners I've seen (I took delivery at the end of September).

    Supercharging prices at last

This is very important. I think too many people are worried about being charged per kWh vs per min vs variable rates based on charge speed etc. Bottom line is, as @SomeJoe7777 very nicely demonstrated here, the "fuel cost" is cheaper than gasoline. I applaud Tesla for coming up with a fair...
