Holy crap, repairs are insanely expensive, beware!!

Ahh, that is EXACTLY the same part that died on me and the exact same result. I hope you have a better experience than I did. Hopefully Tesla is wisening up on this simple repair. On a good note, I still love my P90D, it's a dream to drive!

21" Rims/ After Market sound system

Where are you located? I have never mounted 21" black turbines with brand new continentals. I'm in Salt Lake City though and not really interested on shipping. The roads in UT scare me. I'm running 19s right now and they are fine. Running 21s is concerning me, thus they aren't mounted yet.

Vendor We're Now Offering Dual Dash Cam Installation

This is awesome. I wish we had options in Salt Lake City, UT. I've been looking for this exact install for a while. What is the cost for the install kit including shipping? Maybe I can find a local pro to do the install. Any recommendations?

    90D AP1 -> 100D AP2 for $17k. Yay or nay?

I would do it. I purchased my P90D for $108k in Nov 2016, saves me about $35k as it was during the transition from the 90s to the 100s. If the difference was just $17k at the time I would have gone with the more advanced model.

    Utah Tesla Owners

Could be, they were Michelin PS2 tires. They were under warranty and replaced by the tire shop at no cost. I actually asked for Michelin Pilot Sports, and the manager recommended the PS2s because the Pilot Sports were on a two month back order. They looked extremely low profile on the fronts...

    Utah Tesla Owners

Hey Utah owners! I've been a member of the Tesla family since November. Love my Tesla, but I'm a little scared of the durability. I just swapped out my winter 19"s for my summer 21"s, hit something in the road and blew a tire. How do you guys with 21" wheels do on the horrible utah roads? How...

Comment by 'mattr2' in media 'Tesla Accident'

That's a huge bummer. You are better off with a total write-off if the vehicle. Knowing the repair costs on restoring your car back to the pre-incident state, you MUST take it to a tesla approved shop or it will never be recertified. I can tell you, the repair costs alone are going to be in...

Tesla parts for sale in NE

What interior color do you have? I would be interested in a new back seat in black. I have the seat will little contour and would like the one with more support. The back seat in the 2016+ Tesla blows. The ones I want: The one I have:

ball joint failure on 2015 MS70D at 11K miles - Tesla won't cover

I hit a curb and broke a control arm. It's a basic repair that took 3 months and $14k to the insurance company. If you are in Utah, you will be referred to the only Tesla shop in the state. Daves Body Shop will be doing the work, I fear your vehicle will require way more work to be done based...

Holy crap, repairs are insanely expensive, beware!!

I can't imagine they won't, it's a collision claim. However, the curbing happeneded on Jan 19. I already got a 40% rate increase Jan 1 to be effective Feb 1 for no reason. No claims on record, no tickets, nonaccudents for over 10 years. All I did was buy a Tesla. So I already secured coverage...

Holy crap, repairs are insanely expensive, beware!!

It's not a matter of just knowing how to tow heavy vehicles, there simply isn't a way to lift or support the vehicle in many cases. The suspension ended up getting damaged during the tow because the operator couldn't support the vehicle without putting weight in the wheel. Could have just been a...

Holy crap, repairs are insanely expensive, beware!!

Nice find, except I have insurance and would rather pay my $500 deductible and have a perfect car. There was also a steering gear that was damaged when the wheel came out of socket. I'd rather be safe and have it repaired 100% correctly given I paid big bucks for the vehicle.

Holy crap, repairs are insanely expensive, beware!!

Alas, this is what I expected from the start in the worse case scenario. Tesla would have had no problem fixing this issue efficiently and at a lower cost, but they will not work on collision cars, or at least that's what they told me. * for some reason, notifications quit working so I quit...

Holy crap, repairs are insanely expensive, beware!!

Ohh, one more thing. Tow agencies have no idea how to tow these vehicles. They are so heavy and have almost no tow infrastructure to assist the $15/hr noob who does this part time. How about a bulletin from Tesla on that?
  16. M

Holy crap, repairs are insanely expensive, beware!!

I tried. The Tesla dealership will not look at it. The dealership only works on warranty repairs, not collision repairs. Tesla will only refer me to this shop and this shop only. It's a problem when basic repairs which involve parts that are most likely designed to break in order to protect...

I still have my 2012 BMW 550xi. I planned on keeping it as a backup and for long drives. Sure glad I did.

Holy crap, repairs are insanely expensive, beware!!

Funny you bring up the brake caliper. That's one of the parts still on order. I can't possibly see how the caliper is bad. I brought this up and he said it was damaged. Not sure how that could have happened. I may just go visit the shop. Makes me wonder what else is holding it up. These shops...

Holy crap, repairs are insanely expensive, beware!!

One source of data doesn't necessarily create a trend. This is one guy telling me a problem that he sees in his shop but I agree, if that is the case there is a problem. There is also a problem if a small incident like this can be such an extensive repair. Like I said, I'm actually more...

I actually thought about that, not sure what I would do with those parts or how useful they could be in the future.
  21. M

Holy crap, repairs are insanely expensive, beware!!

I agree, my initial post is a little fishy and I got carried away. Looking at the parts lit there are references to a radiator, but not replacing the radiator itself. I would edit my original post, but the forum won't allow. It's not my intent to deceive or exaggerate, just to bring awareness...

Holy crap, repairs are insanely expensive, beware!!

Here are some screen shots. I actually can't call the shop dishonest if they are following the recommendations of the manufacturer. It appears to me that they have to follow the service bulletin or face liability. I'm not sure. Has anyone else out there had this type of repair?

Holy crap, repairs are insanely expensive, beware!!

I did hear a little grinding sound and could imaging a gear wheel perhaps having issues. When the wheel itself came loose, the suspension went berserk. I can't confirm for sure, but those parts were on the list (of course.)
  24. M

Holy crap, repairs are insanely expensive, beware!!

I haven't been in the shop but that's the claim. He said many from Denver and other surrounding areas. Just passing on the report. They are quite popular in UT though. I was surprised to hear so many piling up at one shop. I guess if a control arm takes 2 months to complete, others must take...

Holy crap, repairs are insanely expensive, beware!!

This is exactly why I gave up trying to fight it. If there is only one authorized shop, and they have an official bulletin they must follow, and the insurance co has liability if not following the manufacturers required repair process, then you see the conundrum. Everyone is scared. I admit, I...

Holy crap, repairs are insanely expensive, beware!!

In order to replace all the parts on that list, a lot more work is required. Work like removing bumpers, dropping batteries, removing A/C compressors. It's crazy. It's not really replacing the entire front end, just the parts and labor list is so large it seems that way. Maybe a tear down and...

Holy crap, repairs are insanely expensive, beware!!

The service manager said he has seen similiar damage just at high speed turns because the vehicle is so heavy. He has 8 Teslas in his shop with the exact same repair.
  28. M

Holy crap, repairs are insanely expensive, beware!!

Apparently even though it's an electric motor, there is still a radiator to cool it. I'll post the details to the repair estimate once I can remove all the personal info.

Attaching the repair memo here forwarded to me by the shop when I challenged the estimate. Hopefully the file attaches properly.

Holy crap, repairs are insanely expensive, beware!!

It's the only Tesla approved shop and I have insurance. The last thing I want to do is screw myself into a partial repair. I don't know enough about the repairs to call their bluff and it's my insurance companies job to challenge it. I'm not comfortable replacing the part on my own. I feel...

    Model S: No Spare Tire

I hit a pothole in Jan, blew the Tesla tire to pieces. Had to call Tesla support, they sent a tow out right away so it could go to my fav tire shop. My advice, get run flats if you are concerned. These heavy beasts also have trouble stopping on icy roads, best to get a set of winter tires and...

Holy crap, repairs are insanely expensive, beware!!

on Jan 19, 2016 I slid on ice in a parking lot in my new P90D. I hit a patch of ice in a slight downhill slope resulting in me hitting a curb. After hitting the curb, I check out the car, no visible damage. Parked the car, went into my office. All seemed fine. When backing out of the parking...

Who reserved a Faraday Future FF 91?

Wow, after seeing the demo and taking a closer look at that vehicle, its dang ugly and mostly vaporware. I can only imagine where Tesla will be when and if the FF ever gets released in real production. Tesla easily mops the floor with FF. Best of luck to them, but I wouldnt hold my breath...

    1st really cold weather drive

Thats about what I am seeing too. I have had my P90D for a few months now and real range is about 60-70% of rated range. I'm not so lucky on the super charger rates, but I have only charged in SLC. It has been very cold here the last month, but the HIGHEST rate I get at the super charger...

    The reasonably* priced Model S

Its about $30k more after tax incentives to go to the P100D, $40k more before tax breaks. The high range would be nice, but the AP 2.0 doesn't really matter to me since its another $8k on top of that to enable. I wish I could upgrade the wheels buts they wont allow any changes. I'll either...

    Wheel Fitment? (WTB)

I will have a set of brand new 19" rims off my 2016 models S as soon as it's delivered. I'm planning on upgrading to the 21" Grey turbines. Ohh, if anyone has new condition 21" Grey turbines that they are willing to ship (or close to Salt Lake City) please let me know. :)

    21" Wheel Swap For 19"??

I have a brand new set of 19" wheels, took delivery on Oct 28. It was a preconfigured model S, the only thing I wanted to change but couldn't was the wheels. They have 120 miles on them. The challenge is, I live in Utah. I could meet you in LV though for a swap.
