I initially read this thread and thought the repair was excessive. A couple grand would be more appropriate.
Then I remembered a coworker who did the same thing in a Land Rover Discovery a handful of years ago. He was in a parking lot, slid on ice and both passenger side tires hit the curb. No mechanical damage; however, it did set off the side airbags which totaled his $30,000 Land Rover. The interior trim pieces and seats were damaged from the airbags.
Then I also remembered when someone threw a brick into my BMW M6 convertible (I guess out of kicks), and the leather dashboard - THE DASHBOARD - was $12,000 to replace.
I suppose it's all relative. If I had that S out of warranty, I would have just replaced the control arm and inspected for any visible damage.
