Tip/Warning if you have more than one Powerwall

Same here. One of the two powerwalls I have faulted but no alerts of any kind in the app. Just noticed that my powerwall is discharging way too quickly for the capacity it should have. After calculating actual capacity using consumed kWhs and lost % of SoC I figured out it has less that 50% of...

Let the hacking begin... (Model S parts on the bench)

It is indeed possible without getting root access to the CID. IC is wide open (kinda). Still IC has exactly the same firmware as the CID does. So - get into IC, dump it there, copy to your PC. Easy. Problem is - technically it is rooting. Despite being easy to get into IC you still need root...

    Rebuilding Salvaged Model S 75D

It is not hard, it is nearly impossible to get anything of this _from_ Tesla -)

    Rebuilding Salvaged Model S 75D

It is your right to agree or not. I worked on this car and I know my job very well. I got to work with it at the point when it refused to do even hardware acquisition routine which is part of normal redeployment.

    Rebuilding Salvaged Model S 75D

It is easy to find - HV cables are orange and thick, logic connector is just a regular harness with a connector that you can unplug by hands. If you run chargers without coolant it just overheated and shut itself down since it has temperature sensors. It shouldn't blow it and shouldn't cause MIA...

    Rebuilding Salvaged Model S 75D

Check 12V fuses. Mia errors are happening because GW can't communicate with particular ECUs. They do not communicate via HV wiring obviously. There was no need in opening charger and checking HV fuses. Check that there is 12V on charger's logic connector. Check corresponding fuse. Important...

Attempting to Repair Front Collision Salvaged Tesla

Thats kind of funny and contradictive. Can I recommend this path? No! But wait, here is my next project! Reminds me anecdote: - How did you like the restaurant? - You know, I got a terrible diarrhea but it was worth it!

Death of a center screen / touch screen after warranty

Not really. Very often flash dies completely and is unreadable. Sometimes important information could be recovered, sometimes not. It is not a "card" but eMMC flash chip that soldered directly to the PCB.

    Salvage Car Owners Support Group.

I had terrible experience with Ingineer also. He charged me $950 but disappeared immediately after receiving money. I was trying to reach him for 2 months. All I got in reply is - he is busy. Car was standing and waiting two months after which he quietly refunded my payment without any...

MCU fails for the second time

I'm not sure what do you mean by warm and cold. If car is still driveable then MCU is mostly alive and probably just Tegra died. Tegra could be repaired or replaced.

    Every Tesla part (almost) available

Worth to be proud of! :) There are Tesla dismantlers in CA who may have comparable stock as well. Tesla parts business is getting traction.

    Every Tesla part (almost) available

I've been to a SC parts department. Trust me this one is nothing with all respect. Tesla SC may have lack of major parts like DUs/Batteries in stock but in general they have like 10x-100x storage and parts assortment.

Attempting to Repair Front Collision Salvaged Tesla

They are closing. Opened by default and won't close unless car thinks that there is no HV problem of any sort. Every rebuilder dreams about that sound of closing contactors -)

Tegra temps, hastening the life of the MCU in older Model S'

There is significant addition to our Tegra temp statistics from fleet of ~60 cars. As we know now huge percentage of pre-facelift cars have Tegras running at 70C and higher. Hottest one with 4K vin is even at 88C. Theory is confirmed, older Tegras are running hot most of the time and most...

Tegra temps, hastening the life of the MCU in older Model S'

From eMMC manufacturer specifications its operating temperature range is: -40℃ ~ 85℃. But it is also known that all silicon chips suffer from elevated temperatures and it definitely shortens chip lifespan. Thus operating very close to the upper bound of specification is a death caller for flash...

75 and 75D variants increased performance from July 1st - software and hardware improvements?

That is incorrect. When performance changed from P3 to P1 then DI firmware redeployment is absolutely necessary. Former firmware named 70D while latter is 85D. It is physically different firmwares, even within same version number. That's why they always redeploy. GW reboot is enough for BMS...

MCU fails for the second time

CID consists of few separate processing units. Main computer which is responsible for graphics and many other things callled Tegra. This computer definitely sleeps. Everybody who has CID on a bench knows that. Gateway subunit is not sleeping. It is responsible for waking everything up if signal...

Not Available Mint White 2017 Tesla Model S 75 w/Reus Sound System!

0-60 is doubtful, asking price is little too high. Looks like OP copy-pasted specs of the last built RWD 75 and applied it to his winter-spring built car.

MCU fails for the second time

Less miles and low power mode definitely matter. Less uptime MCU has is better. It is not car age rather uptime. Seems like we discovered new design flaw of earlier revisions of MCU. They run significantly hotter - about 20C hotter than late models. Both CPU and surrounding board get hot so...

Any success story of an authorized RWD 75 uncorking yet?

Thy guy who uncorked his car himself and then got corked back by Tesla has 75D. It was me who discovered how to do it and gave him instructions.

MCU fails for the second time

If something fried on MB then it is a very bad sign. Without schematics it could be very hard to fix and there is a question - why fix at all unless you want a bench. I suspect SC swapped the screen, not damaged. I installed and removed my bench's screen like a hundred of times literally, but...

MCU fails for the second time

What do you mean? What kind of bench it is without LCD screen and Tegra? The only thing you could do with it - look at it, repair or part it out. GW is not accessible from IC port and DIAG port is locked from start and there is nothing to unlock it. This thing is a brick.
  27. tedsk

MCU fails for the second time

I assume that Tegra is dead if screen went black: "It's just a black screen to me until I look at it". Now it is also bubbled so almost zero value for the LCD as well. It is basically old 3G modem, main board and casing which do not fail usually last time I checked. P.S.: I wouldn't wonder if...

MCU fails for the second time

Hi @demundus, If it is failing eMMC I certainly can help you. I'm repairing automotive electronics for many years. Replaced eMMC on my CID and know internals of Tesla very well. Could do either whole CID swap for you if you obtain it elsewhere (will "marry" it to your car) or fix the existing...

Upgrade 60 to 75 via folks on ebay?

I imagine situation when such pricing could be reasonable - salvage car that is not officially supported by Tesla and when Tesla refuses to transfer ownership on rebuilt car. IMHO it is not necessarily a scam.

What's wrong with the Tesla regen? Or my car? (Chart)

It is matter of terminology for sure. Shall we call it "regen" braking after it stops to produce energy but consume it. I've done some reading and now I am not so sure it is indeed possible for Tesla if it is possible for BMW i3. My discovery is that Tesla and BMW use different type of motors...

What's wrong with the Tesla regen? Or my car? (Chart)

I see what you are trying to say but it is completely irrelevant like the comment "you'll get use to it". Please stop posting what doesn't apply to my case. It is just as frustrating as non-linear regen. My commute is 10mi and usually takes 20-30 minutes. Pack never warmed up fully on my...

What's wrong with the Tesla regen? Or my car? (Chart)

What I was saying and proving with exact measurements that cold pack directly affects regen performance and it behaves weird and unpredictable when limited due to temperature. What affects pack temperature directly is weather, assuming that my car is kept outside during the night. Resuming: -...

What's wrong with the Tesla regen? Or my car? (Chart)

Sorry but unless you do it in the freezing temps it doesn't count. Regen behaves very differently and it changes all the time when it is around 32F outside.
  45. tedsk

Is it possible to hack the software to unlock battery, autopilot, etc.?

BTW: BMW is honest with customers - they clearly state what capacity is usable and what is reserved. Funny thing - state credits (where they depend on battery capacity) calculated from whole capacity but manufacturer markets really usable capacity. P.S.: BMW disappointed me later when they...

What's wrong with the Tesla regen? Or my car? (Chart)

Because I have only one bay with charger in my garage and it is usually taken by my second electric car that needs to be charged everyday. So it is definitely a hassle to shuffle cars every day/night/morning to just top my Tesla's battery if I don't have to.

What's wrong with the Tesla regen? Or my car? (Chart)

Thanks for the ideas. It looks like trading one inconvenience to another. I plug my car once a week (85%-30% charge drop during the work week). I will rather keep it that way. My garage is not warm unfortunately. I tried to turn range mode off - not much difference. It is not enough time to warm...

What's wrong with the Tesla regen? Or my car? (Chart)

My guess is that car engage full regen only if you lifted up your feet from accelerator completely after some delay (~1 sec) by my measurement. See below (after fully depressing accelerator I lifted my feet from it completely as fast as I can). Notice there is ~1s delay between full power draw...

What's wrong with the Tesla regen? Or my car? (Chart)

I've added to the chart power returned to the battery. Interestingly enough it is modulated in wide range in order to produce nearly linear acceleration. So in fact Tesla tried good enough to make regen braking consistent. Algorithm flawed for cold battery only. Otherwise I'm satisfied.
