Been reading a lot about the Model 3 and the delays in production (not surprised as this was common with the Model X). However, the lack of proper instrumentation is bothering me. I am also a BMW guy, and the frequent use of the M3 terminology often confuses me and makes me check the forum I...

Is a lack of instrumentation dangerous?

I've been a way for a while and haven't been able to respond. As for all of the comments that headlights are automatic...yes, most cars have that, but what do you do when the sensor fails and your headlights don't turn on....do you just take a cab or an Uber instead? Also, a physical button is...

Seems Blue is a popular color choice, that is why I am trying to choose something a little more classic.

Is a lack of instrumentation dangerous?

I think there is a complete disconnect in the comments being made and what the OP was putting forward as a concern and an important safety topic. Forgive me if I am repeating something already mentioned, I have not read through all 8 pages of this thread. OP is concerned that there are no...

Sounds like a great build. I am still debating to go dark grey or silver. Maybe Black as that seems to be my fallback option. I doubt I would go for the upgraded wheels as the 18's are fine, can be used as a winter set, then I can purchase something a little more stylish for summer (it all...

Thank you for the details. I had no idea that the extended range battery offered faster charging and a faster 0-60. I really don't care about 0-60, however, the usability is what is important. When you say that it will save time, that is important (in some situations). I too am showing late...

    Model 3 specs

I guess the sounds made by passengers depends on how well they trust your driving skills. As for the car, I am sure there are the typical PDC sensors.

    Model 3 specs

I suppose this would be true, but I have been a BMW owner for over 10 years and all BMW models (even ones I don't own), have had the 5x120 bolt pattern. I know it can be a choice based on costs or availability, but keeping standardized sizes also makes it easier for parts personnel and public...

    Model 3 specs

Thank you for the post. I find it a bit odd that they would be using a variety of different bolt patterns. It would be easier if they kept the 5x120 - this would be the same as the Model S/X

Yeah, I have seen that they are charging $9k USD for the long range battery. Just curious if that would convert to $12k CAD or an adjusted value. Just seems pricey for 100 miles of range. My reservation is indicating a late 2018 delivery, however, I was hoping for late 1st quarter 2019...

I may have posted in the wrong section....posted a question on the Model 3 under the Alberta Owners Club thread and not here

Does anyone have details on the Model 3 yet? Seems there are a handful of forum members getting their orders. Mainly I am curious on the conversion for the extra range battery and the availability of an AWD model. Thanks,

MS wheels will not fit M3. Different bolt pattern

Is this proven to be true, or speculation. I have seen both bolt patterns listed for the Model 3. TSportline is showing 5x114.3 Other sources are showing 5x120

Congrats on the pending delivery of your new Model X. I'm sure you are glad to be back in an EV versus your current ICE

What do you see are the advantages of the Model 3 over future competitors?

I think there are many reasons why the Model 3 will have an advantage over the competition, but the biggest factor for most is the appearance. It is not a car that looks like an electric car. I don't understand why manufacturers purposely make electric cars ugly or stand out (bad paint colors...

What kind of options/upgrades are you considering and why?

Best post I have read in many months. I am sorry, in my region they are not samsquanches, they are sasquatch and there is always a hidden one on every can of Kokanee.- maybe you will need to ask Bubbles for some help on determining the differences between the 2, they are a related species, but...

I agree, maybe Tesla will be working with the city to find a good location just off 16th Ave and Deerfoot (or Stoney Trail) for a SC I know the trailer park at the top of the hill on 16th Ave only has another year or 2 before it's land lease expires

I like the location for the new supercharger, but it is interesting to hear no updates to the building yet, maybe waiting for warmer spring weather to apply a facelift? Also, doing donuts in the parking lot is perfect on a day like today, congrats!!!

    Augmented Reality

This thread is not in reference to VR, it is about having an identification of pedestrians, animals, and other things via the vehicles centre console, HUD or other means. A pair of glasses is not feasible as that would deter many people, look at 3D TVs and their failure due to different types...

Interesting coments about Ford and the model E, but how does Mercedes get around that with the E Class?
  22. E

    Augmented Reality

I think a HUD system is the most effective, safest and easiest to implement. Manufacturers like Mercedes and BMW have very detailed HUD with a wide variety of information being displayed and using a full color spectrum.

    Cold weather testing?

Frameless windows are very good for keeping profiles on the doors slim, also make the door lighter. I have had many cars with frameless windows and never had any issues in 10+ years of ownership. The only time I had an issue was when the battery died and I had to open the door to boost it, so...

Did we just get a final design hint?

After living on BMW forums for years, I mentally need to process M3 every time I see it here in the Tesla world
  27. E

Did we just get a final design hint?

I personally like the look of the reveal car front end, but as mentioned above it has absolutely NO branding on it, so that leaves plenty of room for interpretation and adjustment to the final design. I also think the matte black car showing the trunk function will be closer to the real back end
  28. E

Did we just get a final design hint?

    Damn, I wanted dark grey

I thought matte paint colours went out of style years ago.

    Cold weather testing?

Trying seeing a shift in temperature from +10C to -20C in less than 24 hours. Very difficult to plan ahead when you know there is a shift in weather coming. On the other hand, have also experienced the opposite, -10C one day, +5C the following day. Thank you chinook winds!!!

    Model 3 (Numeral)

Yes, that is true, but how does an average person (non-tech, non-forum member, etc) type or query such a thing? Or do they just call it the Model with three lines? You would be surprised how many people in Canada and the US have never even seen or heard of Tesla. There is a reason why a large...

    Cold weather testing?

Tesla needs to tap in to its client base, Denmark is the #1 cold weather test environment and there is a very large number of Tesla's in this region of the world
  34. E

    Cold weather testing?

I agree, even with my non-Tesla and the Active Cruise Control, I have experienced many times this winter while travelling on the highway and not being able to use cruise. They could add an extra headlight washer nozzle or the old Volvo style headlight wipers to make it functional, but I doubt...

    Leasing in Saskatchewan...

I know that US lease deals are often far better than they are in Canada. I was shopping for a BMW i3, in the US, I could get a $250/mth payment on a 3 year lease - but this would also include all of the incentives, even removing incentives the payment was far better than the $1000/mth on a 4...

    Leasing in Saskatchewan...

I am located in Calgary and have some exposure to working at a car dealership on the sales side, not the leasing world. My advice is that a 3rd party leasing company is usually more expensive than going through manufacturer. However, you are in a special situation as there is no current...

    Cold weather testing?

OK, so there is speculative data then. I don't see Buick owners being very in-tune with vehicle flaws as the average age of a Buick owner is over 50 years old. I know that I take my car in frequently to have adjustments and issues fixed, especially when they are fit and finish issues, or even...

    Cold weather testing?

Interesting to see that in Consumer Report...but the questions I have regarding their report are off topic for this thread. Primarily, what is the number of people surveyed for each brand? was it the same across the board, ie. 100 ppl for every brand? or was there only 3 respondents for Buick...

    Tesla Owners in Alberta

I know the sales girl at Radius mentioned that they are trying to re-work the electrical plans to allow for the addition of charging. This is possible as they are still pouring footings and no structure is in place (yet). Retrofitting is something condo boards will need to figure out as demand...

    Model 3 (Numeral)

Yeah, but with Ford blocking the use of E, that ruined the creative naming convention created by Tesla. S E X Y Model S, Model X (already known), upcoming model E/3 and the soon to be announced Model Y

    Model 3 (Numeral)

I agree that the 3 lines is more cutting edge and not as mainstream, but the validity of Google search and just recognition for common folk makes sense. Since I have recently joined the site, I have yet to find out the right way to write the 3 lines, is that a special character?

How patient are you when it comes to the next reveal?

I chose option #3 and would not be upset about a delay, that just tells me they are not rushing into production and creating additional teething issues for their first large volume vehicle. It is also a benefit for me, more time to save $$ and to allow AP development to grow.

    Speculative Wheel Options

I know this thread is based purely on speculation, but for a 20" to be the default, that is a bit aggressive. I mean, the Panamera has 19" as standard wheels on the Panamera 4S, the Panamera Turbo will default to 20" as standard. Even when we look at other performance sedans, they use an 18"...
  44. E

    Speculative Wheel Options

All seem logical, but I really doubt there will be a 16" option. 17" is also a bit questionable as most luxury cars start off at 18" for base model (BMW, Mercedes, etc)
  45. E

    Speculative Wheel Options

Just thinking of what I will be doing for accessories on the Model 3, I know I will be buying a second set of wheels/tires to be used for winter driving as I live in Canada. This is a necessary evil of living so close to the Rocky Mountains and being able to enjoy a vehicle year round. I see...

How patient are you when it comes to the next reveal?

as a response, my reply to the vote was that I really don't care if an announcement is made. If you think about the bigger picture, 'the wait' is all about having patience and excitement combined.

How patient are you when it comes to the next reveal?

I think that if there is no attempt to start production by late summer (September), there will be 75,000 - 100,000 deposits refunded. Just a guess, but I think there are a high number of people who were looking to cash-in by being an early adopter and really don't care about the true ideologies...

I do agree, it is all in perspective. I missed my chance to buy stock in 2014 as I was uncertain on the success of the company at that time. I regret not buying shares as I would have seen a nice increase in value. There are still spikes and dips though, but that is normal for a tech company

    Wiki Model 3 Reservation Tally

I am sure the reservation process for the Model Y will be same as the Model 3. If there are people who flip their reservation, that is their decision, but I can't see Tesla allowing reservation holders to make a decision to flip before the official reservation process begins.
