Navigate on Autopilot is Useless (2018.42.3)

It was like this when they were just using the front 1-2 cameras initially too, but gradually got better with software updates. I wouldn't worry too much about it, since it doesn't affect the actual decision making by AP. My guess is they didn't think it was worth holding back the whole feature...

    Software Update 2018.36.x

Anecdotal, but it def seems like less regen at higher speeds. Lower speeds seem the same to me with regards to coasting to a stop.

    Software Update 2018.36.x

Car did a quick brake while changing lanes into a lane with no close cars ahead but a slim shadow and an overhead road sign. Did another really light quick one (~2mph slowdown) going downhill with shadows from overhead branches and trees (unsure what causes that specifically but I’ve had it...

Anyone brave enough to try iOS 12 with Model 3?

I’ve been running the public betas since the first release and never had a problem. I think you’re probably safe!

    2018.26 3bbd9fd .-

Any idea how often they update map tiles? Do these just get updated gradually and re-uploaded to the car when you enter the tile space, or do they tend to come all at once? May be a more appropriate question for the autopilot forum, but I always appreciate your insight!

Any change in behavior related to phantom braking? Rumor was they worked on it for this seemingly wide-release update.

    Software Update 2018.24.1 12dd099

So when my car comes up to this sign in my neighborhood with AP engaged at 35mph, it begins to slow down on its own. Not fully, but down to maybe 20mph. Does it every time. No speed limit change on street or MCU. (Yes it’s a Model 3, but this thread seems more active!)

Autopilot Reacted Late and Caused a Minor Accident

From what I’ve heard, if you click the voice command button and say “bug report” then briefly describe the problem, it sends a brief clip of video and radar to Tesla so they can review it. I do this for any phantom braking so they can hopefully use the images for training the NN not to hate...

Auto-park fail - manually stopped just in time

Had the same thing happen to mine. Autopark is dead to me.

    Model 3 Software Updates

EAP should be using two of the front cameras and the two side repeater cams once it gets turned on, so blind spots should be covered just fine! They probably don’t see much use in enabling the backup camera for the highway, since this info isn’t that useful over what the sonar gives you if they...

    Phone Key Auto Unlock Issues?

You can just push the handle in a little bit (not enough to open) and it’ll let you unplug. Still annoying, but slightly more convenient than opening/closing door every time.

    Model 3 Software Updates

I think he means control the max speed preemptively before engaging AP. Maybe they think using the GPS speed limit plus your offset is sufficient? That’s my guess.

    Future Wesley Chapel Location?

I had never been to a Wawa until I tested charging on my Model 3 at the one down the street in Pinellas Park. They have some AMAZING food for a gas station! I hope this becomes a bigger thing between the two companies...

Here it is the new Tesla Maps ( coming this weekend? )

In the 3 with the new nav, it'll specifically say something like "offline routing" above your route when you hit Navigate. It does this when my garage is closed and I don't have good LTE service yet. Once it has LTE, it updates itself (presumably using traffic data?) I assume the S/X's do...

Here it is the new Tesla Maps ( coming this weekend? )

I actually think this is intentional, but they aren't displaying it correctly yet. They seem to be trying to show what lane you are in (in mine, if I move to the right side of the road, I appear on the right edge of the street.) I suppose this will be important eventually when they are trying to...

Sighting Other 3s -- Eerie Absence, Sudden Confluence

I saw my first Model 3 (other than mine) when I was pulling out of a restaurant Friday in Clearwater. Tried to wave but the guy and his girlfriend looked liked they were playing with the screen at a stoplight. I suspect it’ll be a lot more common soon though, as the Tampa delivery center people...

First day with Model 3 experience

I know you already checked this, but it’s something to be aware of relating how the phone sits. My iPhone X with the Apple leather case wouldn’t connect at first, but then I noticed if i dipped it under that lip at the bottom, it would connect properly. I wish there was a little more clearance...

    VIN Assignment

Most likely that they just had some extras VINs left to produce in that range. Seems the ranges line up with color/wheel choice, so when they switched back to manufacturing your config, they filled in the lower ones. Happened with my midnight silver aero, where I got a 51xx car made in March...

    Model 3 Software Updates

My car interior was 145 degrees sitting outside at work yesterday in Florida. Summer is here!! New update has great power saving. I think I lost 1mi over 10 hours or so. Once they get around fixing whatever was wrong with 10.5 you should be set!

Here it is the new Tesla Maps ( coming this weekend? )

Seems similar to Model 3 on 10.5 with the lane guidance bubbles. Is that different from the previous S version? (never had an earlier version of 3 software to compare either)

    Canceling my reservation

Very true! Doesn’t Audi have a speed limit though? I think above 35ish it just “guides” you if you are about to exit the lane. Not a true autopilot from my understanding. I guess you could tap voice command and just read it? I do 95%+ of my driving to places I already know, but I could see...

    2018.10.5 Arrived

Drove +10mph over speed limit on way home today on 10.5. You sure this isn’t just limited to local roads or special circumstances?
  29. Wolverinegeoff

    Canceling my reservation

Not to quibble, because everyone is entitled to their subjective opinion, but a couple of these could use some clarification. You are 100% correct that EAP in traffic is the same as any other car (this really isn’t that hard to do), but EAP really shines at full speed on the highway where it’s...

    Firmware Update 2018.12

It's true that it's the same NN, but we already know the NN is seeing way more than it is acting on or displaying for us. Not saying that there is any new behavior on this release, but it's very possible that AP will begin to display more of the info it gets from the NN, or act on things...

    2018.10.5 Arrived

I agree, it's a weird/unnecessary step. Hopefully this gets added to the official documentation for the car. "To disconnect charger, tickle your door handle until the car laughs or turns on."

    2018.10.5 Arrived

Noticed this too! A quick little push on the handle (not enough to pop it open though) seems to wake up the car and let you unhook it. Kinda strange tho.

Nothing wrong with my fit & finish.

Same here. Pretty thoroughly inspected at delivery today and couldn’t find anything wrong with it at all. 51XX VIN, 3/18 door sticker build month (post factory shutdown)

    2018.10.5 Arrived

Yup I was just testing it out due to S/X owners reporting that it works now. Wasn’t doing anything dangerous! Plenty of room to stop without even using brakes (just regen until the final little bit). Figured people would want to know!
  36. Wolverinegeoff

    2018.10.5 Arrived

Not sure if it's because mine is still calibrating (just picked up today), but TACC works and I tried using it at 45mph on a local road. Headed toward cars at a stoplight that it wasn't tracking was pretty uncomfortable and I used the brake before I found out how close it wanted to get. I'll...

Yes Of Course Tesla Will Sell A $35000 Model 3

I totally agreed with your initial thought there before you edited, and I think they are generally doing this with their sales model and getting rid of the high pressure tactics and sleaziness (with some exceptions). However, I don’t think they should throw out decades of advertising research...

Yes Of Course Tesla Will Sell A $35000 Model 3

I’m almost positive that once the software is “complete”(whatever that ends up meaning) and they have a couple hundred thousand people into Model 3’s, they’ll do what they did with S and give a free trial to everyone to try and convert the holdouts. For AP1, the best sales job was just getting...

Yes Of Course Tesla Will Sell A $35000 Model 3

This is pretty standard advertising that everybody is aware of. Every other “car price” is presented in this way, in addition to every product in existence that has multiple tiers or options. “Starting at...” is advertising 101 and just creates an anchor in your mind of it being a certain price...

Time to trade ap1...elon says yes

They haven’t even been able to set the right scroll wheel on a Model 3 to do anything. You may be setting your software expectations too high... For ultrasonic, I think there’s a just difference between what it detects and what it displays. Seems to only display stuff within a few feet, but...

Where are the Midnight Silvers at?

Quite a few of us midnight silvers that configured a couple weeks before you got VINs early March, so I’m sure you’re up soon! They seem to be rotating through the colors and sending out VINs in batches. You’re probably next big east coast batch once the quarter is up. Most of the late March...

Musk: All modes AP by end 2019

Eh, the boards really aren’t that expensive. The PX2 pushes fewer TFLOPS than a 2 year old 1080 and has half the RAM on board. Granted it has some extra stuff on there, but when you are ordering them in the 100’s of thousands, there’s no way they go above $1k/board, especially as prices go down...

Musk: All modes AP by end 2019

$4k after purchase, and that’s already a lot for swapping out a board that is significantly cheaper at volume plus labor. I don’t see it going up any for just FSD. It’s going to be hella-profitable at that price if they actually get it done, especially if they don’t have to swap out any AP 2.5...

Model 3: First 100 Miles Impressions from a P85D Owner

Pretty sure Elon confirmed P model a few months ago on twitter with a similar timeline as AWD (before it got pushed back)
  47. Wolverinegeoff

What's the best option to get a half-year car before I can get the AWD model 3?

You may not want to go the EV route since you’d potentially have the tax credits for both EVs in the same year. You’d just want to make sure you have at least $15k of tax liability for the year!

    Losing enthusiasm for Model 3

This is what we call “rationalization”, where we make a big decision and our brain fills in the blanks to make us more comfortable with it. Not saying it’s a bad thing, we definitely all do this so we don’t live our lives in constant anxiety and second guessing, but I would hesitate to take...

    First Road Trip

That is definitely a pretty hardcore road trip schedule! I actually like the pace more of trips in a Tesla where it forces you to get out and stretch and relax a bit, which is also healthier overall. It's also hard to truly describe the difference in how you feel when you arrive after 12hrs of...
