Smoother riding coilovers - let's built it! Band together - then approach Bilstein/MotonSo

Hi Shaikh, Thanks for all the information. I did do some research last year into your company and looks like you are doing great work. One of my posts in this thread went over the associated costs I found from your website as an option to the adventurous ones out there. There's been quite a...

    Vendor Shelf Butler by Norm

Just want to put in my 2-cents on Norm's cubby and shelf butler -- works awesome! The fit on the cubby is perfect and the material inside is oh-so-soft. Great work Norm, can't wait to see your new projects.

    newbie question

Wow, that's pretty enlightening and a bit concerning regarding the lifetime of the 12V battery -- I've seen forum posts regarding longevity of the 12V but from what you describe it does mean ironically that the less you drive the car the sooner the 12V dies. Thanks Rocky_H
  13. H

    newbie question

What you are saying makes sense, but I guess I am misunderstanding a bit about the system as a whole. As I understand it, the 12V powers all idle activity when the Tesla is off and it gets recharged from the main pack if the voltage gets low enough. On average we are looking anywhere from 4-10...
  14. H

    newbie question

Do you have a source for this? While it makes sense that ICE cars only recharge during driving because thats the only time it generates power, there's no reason a Tesla can't top off the 12v using the battery pack even while sitting in a a garage. In fact, I would imagine that's exactly what...

    newbie question

    1. Tesla will be fine without being charged everyday. Expect anywhere from 4-10miles vampire loss per day, depending on whether you have energy saving and always connected on. 2. No issue with closing rear trunk -- it's got a whole bunch of plastic trim backing the metal as well as hydraulics...

A-pillar speaker grille -- how to remove?

So after being driven insane by a mysterious rattle whenever I went over a bump, I found the source of the rattle to be a semi-loose speaker grille on the A-pillar. Since going to a service center is not really a convenient option, does anyone know the steps to popping that grille out so I can...

API question -- battery drain constant with "always connected" or dependent on apps?

Been going through the API thread and didn't see a confirmed answer to this: Assuming the car is set to Energy Saving=Off and Always Connected=true, is the battery drain constant regardless of the # of apps that are pinging the car, or does each App create a separate drain on the car?

    Faster discharge from 100% -> 80% vs 80% -> 0%?

Recently I upgraded by 60D to a 75D and noticed that for some reason my average wh/mile has increased for the same route that I took on 60D. I did a few runs and it seems like when I'm starting from 100% the battery drains faster than when 80%-0%. I've seen similar behavior on phones that use...

75 price cut and 60 upgrade follows!!

Not sure about this, but wouldn't the degradation apply to the locked part of the battery as well? I do believe Tesla evenly distributes the charge and takes off the top for all the batteries instead of a particular module. End result is if you wait to unlock the 75, you may actually end up...
  21. H

weird question -- is the 60D slightly slower since it's not 100% charge of the battery?

do you think that would translate to a real-world difference in acceleration, like 0.1s slower for 60D?
  22. H

weird question -- is the 60D slightly slower since it's not 100% charge of the battery?

DragRacing youtube channel recently did a test of battery charge level's effect on the acceleration on a P100D: Looking at pure kW output, it looks like P100D puts out 559kw at 76% and ~576kw at 99%. That got me to thinking -- since the 60D at 100% is approximately 86% of the 75kw battery...

    Air Suspension Removed for 75/75D

I much prefer the ride stability of coils as well. You can definitely feel more sway in the AS particularly on fast corners -- the system just isnt' fast enough to compensate for hard driving as it tends to produce a softer ride. I do wish there were more lowering options for coils.
  26. H

75 price cut and 60 upgrade follows!!

I get how you feel. I don't really need the upgrade either but there were a couple times where I had <40 miles and had a bit of range anxiety. I think 2k is well worth the peace of mind but at the same time I doubt Tesla will back it out as batteries will only get cheaper from here on out.
  27. H

75 price cut and 60 upgrade follows!!

also powered lift gate standard now. Smart move on Tesla to make users happy as pretty sure people didn't like paying for the premium upgrades just for the lift gate. Maybe not the best business decision but that's why we pray to the church of Elon

Is charge rate slowdown dependent on input charge rate?

So we know that charge rate slows down as the car gets close to 100%. Does the charge rate slow down as a percentage of the input charge rate, or is it an absolute value? I understand that the supercharger may drop from ~120kw to say 50kw, but will my home charger with a much lower input charge...

    60 > 75 Upgrade now $2k

High Amp Charger was an upgrade option after purchase for the old 60D. I wonder if they will still allow that?

    60 > 75 Upgrade now $2k

they already pushed the update to my car. charging it up now, woohoo!
  31. H

    60 > 75 Upgrade now $2k

It used to be available on 60/75 in January though. No reason not to offer it as an option for the lighter car for those people with high driveways.
  32. H

    60 > 75 Upgrade now $2k

i have coils on mine. After driving the air loaner i can definitely feel the "floaty" feeling so glad i went with coils for the driving feel (came from a BMW so used to the slightly harsher ride). I do envy people who can lower their cars though -- my wheel gap is way too big :(
  33. H

    60 > 75 Upgrade now $2k

automatic lift gate now standard on all models -- no premium upgrade required. air suspension upgrade also gone -- maybe its standard on all models? EDIT: air suspension upgrade is available for 90D and 100D, not 75. weird.

Order placed. Need insight on options please.

I'm not sure if recent models have changed, but I was given a RWD 85 as a loaner when my 60D was getting its first service. First thing I noticed was how squirelly the back gets with all that torque. Coming from a BMW I did enjoy the steering feel of RWD but AWD just felt so much more...

    Vendor New Cubby Drawer

let's keep this thread on topic for norm's drawers. I was just answering the question comparing norms/carina's and your drawers. It's not inaccurate to say that evannex/rpmtesla's drawers are made of bare plastic. Agree with you that plastic core is better than Carina's paper, but it's not...

    Vendor New Cubby Drawer

I can't speak to Norm's cubby as I don't own one but I believe EVannex is just made from injection molded plastic so you get an overall cheap feeling and sound. Both Norm and Carina's are wrapped in leather but norm has a acrylic core vs carina's cardboard core. I'll admit that Carina does...

    Used Model S from Vroom.com?

Very likely that you could get false negatives with the PPI -- for such a new car we're not expecting any issues to begin with anyways. I'd say that even 1 true positive would pay for itself as you can use that as leverage to negotiate the price down.

Decided to drive from LA area to SF Bay area without using Superchargers...

While the supercharging network is a distinct competitive advantage I can see Elon preferring to encourage other manufacturers using the spec so Teslas can charge at the same full speed. I remember Tesla opened their patents to encourage EV adoption -- does anyone know if that includes the...

    Vendor New Cubby Drawer

are the current options for drawer knob the Tesla logo and the Model S plate? Hard to keep track of all the changes. I would love to see something that looks like the silver open piece on the center console: it would need a deeper indent to support the pull action but I think it would look...

Decided to drive from LA area to SF Bay area without using Superchargers...

I believe Tesla's Chademo adapter is only rated to 50kw -- somebody did a tear-down and confirmed that it was a component limit as opposed to a firmware limit. So until Tesla comes out with an updated adapter you would still be stuck with slow charging speeds even with the updated infrastructure.
  48. H

    Used Model S from Vroom.com?

Why would it be russian roulette? There is no harm in doing a PPI and you can only gain more knowledge on your purchase. You are trading the risk of issues for the substantial savings of a used vs new car, a PPI serves to minimize that risk and the cost is trivial when compared against your...

    Used Model S from Vroom.com?

Nope. A seller could tell me a grandmother only drove the car on sundays and I would still take it to do a proper PPI. I understand that Tesla-cert mechanics may be hard to find I think well worth it. Have you checked with Tesla themselves if they're willing to do a PPI? The flip side of...

    Used Model S from Vroom.com?

My bmw was a 2011 model sold in 2015, so the warranty was up. While I agree that 2-year old cars are still relatively new and an inspection won't find anything major, I did not see them display any different behavior for picking up a 4-year old car out of warranty, particularly a BMW that is a...
