    GEICO Insurance

before we cancelled our 3 reservation in February, Geico was the cheapest quote at just under $175/month - married, live and own a home in Seattle, no accidents, have been Geico customers for 14 years. We were kinda shocked by this, and lame-o Acura RDX we ended up getting instead costs us like...

    Canceling my reservation

Maybe they’ll start with Acura and trickle down to Honda...?

    Canceling my reservation

The upcoming Insight/Civic Hybrid looks cool... I'm sure they'll be in the EV game soon, but with new CR-Vs and Civics selling like hotcakes, they probably don't have a lot of short-term urgency.

Current Tesla owners low take rate on reservations

I'm coming from an Acura ILX - nearly anything will be an upgrade. And I was a devout Tesla and Model 3 fanboy for several years, excited in 2016 by the prospect of finally being able to grab a Tesla that wouldn't blow up our car budget ala the super-hyped $35k Model 3 with the full federal tax...

    Losing enthusiasm for Model 3

Crazy to think about how gullible I was in regard to Tesla and Elon in 2016 - I legit thought that my early morning day 1 reservation would result in a Tesla for the price of of a decently optioned Civic by some point in 2017 (early 2017 even). I knew nothing of Tesla and bought his visionary...

Washington state’s electric-vehicle sales tax break to end

There goes WA's only EV incentive (unless I've overlooked something)... The 7,500 total EV max (not manufacturer-dependent) should be reached this summer... so much for anyone in WA holding out hope of snagging the SR Model 3 and being able to utilize this incentive.

Current Tesla owners low take rate on reservations

This is eerily similar to my situation... well, before I cancelled and subsequently developed eyes for the XC40. I highly recommend you find a current Model 3 owner and see if they'd be willing to let you check out their car briefly (even just sit in it for a few mins). Actually getting to...

    What's next?

    1) Model S refresh 2) evaluating how well older, used Model Ss perform post-warranty 3) what other manufacturers step up with sexy EV offerings over the next few years

    Losing enthusiasm for Model 3

Well, we considered as much as possible... but coming from a Honda/Acura background has meant that our maintenance costs have been like $150-$200 per year (only oil changes really) and there are no great EV incentives in WA State (measly sales tax exemption on the first $32k of an EV will...

Switching from TM3 to Jaguar I-Pace

Hey now, back up - Elon never guaranteed that early morning day 1 reservation holders would qualify for the full federal tax credit that would push a base Model 3 into decently optioned Civic territory, and the folks like me who may have lined up outside of Tesla stores to reserve are morons to...

    Losing enthusiasm for Model 3

Uh, we apples-to-apples compared buying a new Model 3 to leasing new ICE alternatives in the $35k-$40k range and found that the 3 really wasn't competitive for us. Also interesting to note that our best insurance quote for the 3, from Geico, had the Model 3 coming in at almost $35 more per...

    Losing enthusiasm for Model 3

Perfectly articulates my sentiments... only regret I have after cancelling is how "meh" the rest of the field is right now. After learning so much about the potential of Tesla and how great the Model S is, everything else just kind of seems inadequate. That said, we are not blowing up our car...
  14. 2

    Losing enthusiasm for Model 3

Well, leasing works for me in that I prefer a lower monthly obligation for use of maximum car with the option to jump into a new car every 3 years (or less). This is where all-inclusive car subscription services are going to be very appealing as they become available from more manufacturers and...

    Losing enthusiasm for Model 3

Oh, I guess I should've clarified that I was comparing the unicorn $35k version of the 3 to even a decently optioned version of the XC40 in the $39-41k range. The $35k version was the only version I placed a day 1 reservation for, and it looks like the $35k version will not qualify for the full...

What is everyone doing with their house key? Is that a weird question?

Schlage keyless door lock. No Tesla yet, but have had the door lock on our front door for years without problem. Only keys I carry are a car fob and small bike lock key.

Serious security issue with phone as a key

Elon probably assumed that no one would care.
  18. 2

    Losing enthusiasm for Model 3

Completely agree. From a pure financial perspective, leasing a XC40 with all regular maintenance included for the life of the lease >>> buying a new Model 3 via loan for us. Added bonus is the Volvo doesn't require premium gas like other luxury cars, so the fuel savings comparison is even...

    Losing enthusiasm for Model 3

WOW - every one of the 7 people I've met who either works or has worked at Tesla or SpaceX in different roles has been super enthusiastic about their company's mission. Elon has created an intense workplace that isn't for everyone but to sit back and blanket dismiss his subordinates as less...

    Losing enthusiasm for Model 3

Hey now, let's back up... if you think about it - and some Olympic-grade mental gymnastics might be required - Elon likely meant that they plan to hopefully someday maybe produce a $35k Model 3, and until they are truly ready to approach the mass market, they intend to focus on serving the small...

Fascinating, and encouraging for others! I had the exact opposite experience - fairly disappointed, underwhelmed - after spending a few hours with a Model 3 in Jan.

    Losing enthusiasm for Model 3

I definitely want Tesla to succeed and was SOOOO excited to stand in line to reserve a sight unseen $35k Tesla on a cold 3/31/2016 Seattle morning. Over time, I the delays and underwhelming reveals wore on me, and found the $49k+ version of the Model 3 to be underwhelming after getting to spend...

Green Car Reports: Model 3 quality is terrible

I felt interior quality on the Model 3 I got to enjoy for a few hours was neither terrible nor on par with anything I'd consider luxurious or high end.

Here we go again... Model 3 wont power up

I sure hope that the XC40 doesn't during the 12-36 months we plan to use it, or it's back to lame-o reliable Hondaland for us... :D
  28. 2

Here we go again... Model 3 wont power up

Wow. Even if this is an outlier, I'm sure feeling a lot better about having cancelled. If we ever had to get to a newborn appointment or even home from the grocery store, esp with babies, and the car wouldn't start, my wife would have it on Craigslist immediately regardless of make/model.

    Jaguar I-PACE vs TM3

will Jag offer a subscription service? LOL, way to jump to conclusions. I appreciate the minimalist interior, just don't dig the cheapness of materials used or finishing. Carpeting was frying in areas, wood felt and looked like fake plastic, seat leatherette didn't feel as nice as what you...

Just hit me about something utterly bizarre regarding Model 3 reservations.

Agree - the fact that the $49k version's interior felt like a $35k car (or less) to me was a big factor in me canceling. I'm dreading seeing how stripped down the actual $35k version will end up being, if they ever build it. A 2015+ Model S is a great car at any price point/trim.

    Jaguar I-PACE vs TM3

After spending a few hours with a $49k Model 3, I just didn't feel like it was that nice of a car (interior) and am dreading seeing how much they strip down the $35k car.

    Jaguar I-PACE vs TM3

Disappointed with the Model 3's interior. I was underwhelmed by the $49k Model 3's interior (other than the glass roof) - one of the reasons I cancelled was concern over how much worse the $35k interior might end up being, if they ever actually build it.
  33. 2

    Jaguar I-PACE vs TM3

My preference would be I-Pace all day if the price were competitive with the 3. Still dreading seeing how underwhelming the $35k 3's interior will be after being disappointed with the $49k version's interior. Assuming of course that Tesla ever actually ends up manufacturing a $35k Model 3.

Just hit me about something utterly bizarre regarding Model 3 reservations.

Not a bad idea - I'd really love the extra seating and don't care about AP yet, but the S is just too large for our small garage and I'm sorta concerned about potential maintenance on a post-warranty Tesla. Also, after looking at Volvo's CARE and thinking about car ownership in general, it...

Just hit me about something utterly bizarre regarding Model 3 reservations.

Our niche is needing a new car to replace our crappy ILX for our 1 car family. I could car less about 0-60 times, just need something safe, comfortable, reliable, and preferably nice looking to get our baby and toddler around the city in, with a delivery date of no later than July 2018...

Just hit me about something utterly bizarre regarding Model 3 reservations.

We did some autopilot on the highway, and it was impressive until sun glare on the road caused it to slightly drift out of the lane. The owner, an early investor and Model S owner said he had about 60% confidence in autopilot, but that still left him 40% not confident. I think FSD will be cool...

Employee Source: Sell stock after Q1

I'm still fascinated by the Model 3 journey and want Tesla to succeed in general, so yes, I still follow and contribute to this forum. I've been particularly interested in the number of issues that have arisen for new 3s, from 12v battery problems to cracked roof glass. Had we kept our...

Just hit me about something utterly bizarre regarding Model 3 reservations.

Yeah, it's kind of odd to me as a non-owner, but a lot of people who have already received cars are early adopters, investors, and/or diehard EV/Tesla enthusiasts, and kinda new what they were getting into. Persistent delivery delays aside, being able to experience a $49k Model 3 for a few...

    Cancelling my reservation

It felt and looked like cheap, gimmicky plastic to me. If I ever do end up with a 3 featuring the current "wood", I will be wrapping or replacing it asap.

    Cancelling my reservation

I like the design, but it looks way too long for our small townhouse garage. Is it just me, or do Volvo and Tesla seem really similar in terms of their approach to design?
  43. 2

    Cancelling my reservation

Honestly, even after canceling a few weeks ago I'm less enthusiastic about this car today than I was a month ago. Just seems like an unfinished beta product that could eventually be a great vehicle, but isn't there yet. Of course, my mass market expectations for reliability (Honda/Acura...

    Cancelling my reservation

Yes, you are right - the stereo was really good! Not something I'd pay extra for as a standalone item (not big into music), but it did sound great.
  45. 2

    Cancelling my reservation

An S or X would definitely be worth a side gig, but not the 3. The $49k version is a good car (though reliability is starting to look iffy based on what I'm seeing on TMC), but not super nice or anything I'd take on a second job to grab. Honestly, the PUP interior doesn;t match my definition...

1st week with Tesla 3, quality control issues

But... but.. but... they are an early stage company just trying to do the right thing by accelerating us toward sustainable transport! Elon's trying hard and that's all that should matter, quality control be darned. Tesla can do no wrong! Or maybe this is just one of those things that early...

    Cancelling my reservation

No, being able to fit a rear facing car seat behind my 6'2" frame will be the deciding factor. REEEEEEALLY hoping that the car seats fits as good or better than it did in the Model 3 (seat fit surprisingly well!).
