Progression of the dreaded drive unit failure?

On my 2013 P85 (53,000 miles) I noticed a week or so ago that at speeds above 70-75MPH I had a bad vibration. I figured it was a misbalanced tire and was going to check into it eventually (I don't drive highway much so it wasn't a big deal). Then recently I am hearing a rubbing, creaking sound...

Help! Multiple errors on 2013 S: steering assist reduced, Traction Control disabled, stability control disabled, parking brake requires service

Turns out the battery was actually good the voltage where I probed it showed low because the posts were corroded. It was either corroded 12V battery posts or the ground on the battery tray was also corroded. I cleaned it all up and put it back together so far so good.

Help! Multiple errors on 2013 S: steering assist reduced, Traction Control disabled, stability control disabled, parking brake requires service

So it appears now to be a bad 12v battery. Once I let it sit without the cables attached it showed very low voltage. I’ll replace it and see if the problem goes away.

Help! Multiple errors on 2013 S: steering assist reduced, Traction Control disabled, stability control disabled, parking brake requires service

Both ground lugs in the trunk look good. I’m digging around to see if I can find anything else.

Help! Multiple errors on 2013 S: steering assist reduced, Traction Control disabled, stability control disabled, parking brake requires service

While turning onto on on ramp I suddenly got multiple error codes: Steering assist reduced Traction control disabled Stability Control disabled Parking brake requires service Regenerative braking disabled With all these faults the car is difficult to drive. I did a reset when this first came...

    Avoid RPMTesla...

I ordered a replacement nose cone wrapped in carbon after someone backed into mine and damaged it and a cubby hole drawer wrapped in obeche to match my interior. I was happy with the products and speed of delivery and thought the communication was very good. This was earlier this year.

    My Salvage P85 rebuild

Sorry for the long delay on the progress. I passed the state inspection despite the Rear RH quarter panel being mangled. Inspector never even mentioned it. I wonder what the standards are exactly but didn't want to ask and push my luck. With the title I was now able to get the registration. And...

    Dashub Auction Scam

Just don't use Dashub at all. Their fees are higher than everyone else and then they try to cheat you on top of that. They are scam artists.

    My Salvage P85 rebuild

Putting the doors on was pretty straight forward once I figured out how the glass come out again the shop manual instructions were very vague here. Then I put back the curtain airbags and then SRS module and Air suspension module then went in. Again extremely tight putting the Air Suspension...

    Dashub Auction Scam

I used Dashub to broker a deal on a 2013 Tesla Model S with a salvage title offered for auction on Copart. I informed my Dashub “sales specialist” Leif Causey, that I was interested in that specific vehicle a couple hours before the auction started. Since I had lost several previous auctions...

    My Salvage P85 rebuild

So my seatbelt and SRS module arrive from Safety restore about a week later. Very quick turnaround The seatbelt looks great but the buckle portion also known as the pretensioner is still completely retracted. I call Safety Restore and they say mail and back and we will fix it. OK sent that back...

    My Salvage P85 rebuild

I haven't decided yet. I got the original one looking better with hammer and dent puller and hoping that will be enough to pass inspection but more on that later.

    My Salvage P85 rebuild

So while I was waiting for the above parts to arrive I started working on what I could. At this point I found the entire Tesla service manual on the Pirate Bay which was very convenient and FREE! I removed the drivers seatbelt which was locked up, the pretensioner and the SRS module. The...

Yes it appears it was doctored up and put back on Copart unfortunately a lesson learned.

    My Salvage P85 rebuild

Yes its very obviously deceptive and I am surprised Copart does nothing about it as its only going to cause aggravation and complaints from the buyers (who are also Copart customers in the end). Dashub agreed that this was very shady and they said they attempted to get some resolve about it but...

    My Salvage P85 rebuild

So first thing was to locate needed parts. #1 on the list was the 12V battery as I didn't want the car to suddenly stop functioning so after searching online for an aftermarket fit I found that only 1 exists which is the Battmobile Lipo (someone please correct me if there is another). At $400...

    My Salvage P85 rebuild

Being a Model S fan since I test drove one in 2013 I have always wanted one but couldn't justify/afford to buy one. More recently I started looking for a used one but the prices were still pretty high. Saw a couple rebuilds go for auction on Ebay so I started researching fixing a wrecked one...

Attempting to Repair Front Collision Salvaged Tesla

I had no issues with the air suspension before and now it is locked in very high and won't adjust and when you try to adjust it says it needs service. I may try to just disconnect power and see if it reboots and fixes itself. As far as the SRS thats completely fine. My car had side damage on...

Did you by any chance have an Air Suspension fault after putting the module back in? I am having that issue now. Not sure how to reset the fault either.

    Resurrected the 12V battery

So after about 3 weeks without issue I noticed severe Vampire loss of about 10mi a day. Suspecting the 12v battery to be an issue again I unplugged the negative side terminal and tested the voltage and it was about 8volts. I am trying to charge it back up again but in the meantime I ordered...

So you passed even with the SRS light on? I'm surprised they let that slide.

Attempting to Repair Front Collision Salvaged Tesla

I just put the SRS module back in. That went in pretty easy but the suspension module was a huge pain. I ended up grinding the front 1.5" of that black plastic shroud off. It doesn't seem to do anything for it and then it slides right back in place easy. After hacking that extra plastic off...

I have a salvage Tesla with side damage too. But it was much lighter damage just dented door skins and rear quarter. That B pillar damage would have scared me away as its not something I could fix myself. I am sure a good shop with aluminum experience can sort it out for you though. One thought...

    Rebuild inspection?

I don’t know the history but it does look like a guardrail side swipe. I never said anything about jagged aluminum sticking out I said there is a gouge. Good idea on the duct tape it is easy enough. I’ll probably try and see if they pass me as it will be a while till I get the quarter panel...

    Rebuild inspection?

Yea PA is notorious for their auto standards. FL has no such annual inspection. It’s not unusual to see cars in very poor shape driving on the road legally. I tried calling the county office and asking this same question and they were very vague. I think it’s basically the inspectors call as to...

    Rebuild inspection?

Can anyone who has gone through a rebuild inspection shed some light on what the inspector will allow? My personal situation is that my salvage p85 has some dents and a small gouge in the rear quarter panel. This is going to be the hardest thing on the car to repair and I am wondering if I can...

Attempting to Repair Front Collision Salvaged Tesla

I just pulled out the SRS module on my salvage P85, also with air suspension. It was not easy and the service manual doesn't give much detail. The suspension ECU on top of the SRS module needs to come out first and it is the most difficult because it has that big plastic shroud. I was able to...

Service question; how to charge AC?

Awesome that is good to know. So you just vacuumed the system and when you were ready to recharge I assume you just turned the AC down to low and the compressor turned on once you started adding refrigerant?
  35. U

Service question; how to charge AC?

I agree and am well versed on how to charge the AC on an ICE car. Just wanted to see if anyone tried it on a Tesla and if there was anything different. Like I said the service manual explains needing to go into the cars diagnostic menu and selecting "Refrigerant Fill" from the menu etc. I don't...

Service question; how to charge AC?

Pretty sure its a high volt compressor. Unfortunately Tesla won't touch my car since its salvage. This is why I am seeking the DIY way.
  37. U

Service question; how to charge AC?

Did you ever find the answer to this? I think I may have to service the AC on my P85 and was curious if there is a specific way to do it. Service manual says you need to use Toolbox but I wonder if I can charge it without that.

    Resurrected the 12V battery

I think its still considered a "sealed/maintenance free battery" but its got two rubber strips that easily pop off with a thin flathead screwdriver. I would suggest atleast taking a look at the water level before tossing the battery. You may be throwing out a battery that still has life in it.

    Resurrected the 12V battery

I received my salvage model S with light side damage in running condition. The only two error messages were Replace 12V battery soon and Parking Assist disabled. After going back and forth with a couple of Tesla service centers over the phone I came to the conclusion they won't even sell me a...

New member bought my first Telsa

I'd like to introduce myself as a new forum member. I have been a Tesla fan for a long time now since the roadster was just a concept. I also demoed my first model S in 2013 a P85 and I fell in love with the car and brand. Like many I couldn't justify the purchase price so for the last few years...
