Full Self Driving frequently shows as "unavailable"

Yea I understand how service won't do anything, asked them to pass it along to Tesla since it seems they are unaware of the problem (at the service center level) tho im sure the autopilot team is already aware of it. Bit of a shame that Tesla doesn't have better internal communication to keep...

Full Self Driving frequently shows as "unavailable"

Thanks, wasn't able to find other threads but had a feeling it was software related. I love how you can find more info here than you can get from anyone at Tesla who insists on a physical service appt with diagnostic fee

Full Self Driving frequently shows as "unavailable"

So in the last weeks i've noticed that on many drives the grey wheel symbol which represents when you can engage autopilot is often missing or will flash available for a second then disappear again. This seems to happen more at the beginning of a drive and/or on surface streets vs larger...

Can You Read This License Plate?

How/where do you report them? I think i tried this a couple years ago after someone did it a few times in quite intentional fashion but the website didn't seem to work anymore. Didn't really pursue it much further than that though, they'll get caught by a cop eventually as these folks cant help...

    SpaceX investor's thread

I'd want them to provide some color on how they plan to scale the business, specifically in terms of high revenue market segments like govt, airlines, backhaul etc. Need that to get a better estimate of future growth and end state for revenue, then can make some educated guesses on costs and...

2021 Model 3 Tire Fell Off - Get your bolts checked ASAP

No went through a local shop that is a certified repair shop/servicer for Tesla, they ordered from Tesla and it took a little to get the part but that was almost a year ago when everything was slow. The work required for something so trivial is pretty absurd though, having to replace the entire...

    Model 3 front suspension clunking

Could be something minor like a bushing or control arm wearing out, but maybe stick your head under your car and ensure it isn't the lower control arm bolts themselves coming loose like discussed in this thread (and happened to me with aftermarket coilovers): 2021 Model 3 Tire Fell Off - Get...

2021 Model 3 Tire Fell Off - Get your bolts checked ASAP

Yea i didn't say there were, the point is that in applications where the bolt falling out has large consequences its quite normal to use secondary retention and in this case it should almost certainly be threadlocker/a patched one-time use bolt.
  9. kbecks13

2021 Model 3 Tire Fell Off - Get your bolts checked ASAP

Even the best bolts loosen under repeated vibration, in very important applications you typically have a secondary form of retention like a threadlocker or mechanical means of capturing/preventing back off (i.e safety wire) if really important. The design of this joint seems questionable with...

2021 Model 3 Tire Fell Off - Get your bolts checked ASAP

Oh this same thing happened to me, but I had aftermarket coilovers so couldn't really blame Tesla for that one. Let us know how it gets fixed, mine required replacing the entire front sub-frame and Tesla didn't even want to perform the work so i had to go to a 3rd party shop - wasn't very fun...

    "Gearbox fluid recommended" warning

Looks like they are replacing the oil pump too, wonder if they will try to say that this isn't covered under the drivetrain warranty They are - $105 for the pump and $15 for the filter, guess oil is on the house
  13. kbecks13

    "Gearbox fluid recommended" warning

Wow, yea that's the entire motor/gearbox assembly. Let us know what they say for warranty and see if you can get more info about what triggers that alert specifically
  14. kbecks13

    "Gearbox fluid recommended" warning

Whoa that's interesting, sorry to hear that high of a quote. Did they mention what work they needed to perform? I would imagine this is covered by the drivetrain warranty, did they say it wasn't?

    Model 3 front suspension clunking

My coilover was blown and needed to be rebuild, it's currently at UP going through that though this reminds me I need to check in on them as it's been a while! I'm back to riding on stock shocks and springs and the car is silent again. What's crazy is that i've had a bit of a clunk for ages...

    Model 3 AC Smell Update...

Humidity causes the problem, that's why it doesn't show up in winter. Not saying if its humid then you automatically get the stink, but it's a required factor for the moisture to form. And also what are you proposing is the cause? Im guessing something about not turning off the AC before turning...

    Model 3 AC Smell Update...

Humidity is what enables moisture to build up on the evaporator and other AC components (plus summer is when people use their AC), and if you're talking about a home AC system that is quite a different set-up than a car. I'd bet people who live in Las Vegas don't really have the stinky AC...

It was hot and humid during summer in most places, the mildew grows and takes over.

    Michelin Pilot Sport 4S

The regular PS4S is pretty quiet, though I really don't think the foam does that much anyway.

    SpaceX investor's thread

Awesome, good on you for doing your homework and glad it's legit. I've seen other people mention wiring money to someone and literally say "i'm not sure if I even own the shares or not" which was a bit concerning haha It must be the lack of awareness, were you contacted by them/an acquaintance...

    SpaceX investor's thread

That's still available with only a $25K minimum and relatively good terms for fees? That is surprising...you'd think all of the many Tesla investors on twitter who love Spacex would be jumping all over this. Hate to even mention it, but are you sure they are legit?

Service Center won't/can't fix car [suspension - aftermarket suspension installed]

Yes they were, had to wait a bit to get a replacement sub-frame but they could order parts as they are a certified repair/service shop by Tesla, which is nice.
  25. kbecks13

    SpaceX investor's thread

That sounds really really good and a bit surprising compared to some others, especially the low minimum

FSD beta expansion to new beta testers June 2022

I really do not believe this, see previous post here to avoid repeating myself. Tesla explicitly promised some of us who "overpaid" for FSD (they put it on sale right after we bought it and told us it would "cost more later") to get early access to this software over 3 years ago and has done...

FSD beta expansion to new beta testers June 2022

Just saw this on Wastebook, are people who buy FSD for one month seriously getting prioritized for the beta over people who paid 4 years ago? Tesla is a joke.
  28. kbecks13

FSD beta expansion to new beta testers June 2022

Why cant you just use regular autopilot? Is FSD really that much better on non-highway roads? Also as someone waiting for 4 years be thankful that you got to experience it at all in your old car :)

Long wait times for Service (Tesla + other)

Oh i'm talking about even getting simple labor only things done like an alignment (though it requires a lift/bay and i think thats the limiter?) Waiting since June 10th for an alignment and then to fix a subsequent rattle that emerged after performing the alignment, this is at a local Tesla...

FSD beta expansion to new beta testers June 2022

Oh to be clear i'm not implying that people signed agreements or were even explicitly told to be positive. I just mean that it seemed like Tesla pushed the beta update to their usual cast of YouTube and Twitter influencers way sooner than everyone else. And naturally those people are very...

Long wait times for Service (Tesla + other)

So now that Tesla has gotten much larger and more popular, it seems like service experiences are starting to get worse and I've heard that people are having to wait more and more. Wanted to get some input from others in the community and see if you've experienced a "slow" service experience...

FSD beta expansion to new beta testers June 2022

I have a different view on this, I am quite certain that the FSD beta program exists purely to "show off" the software that Tesla is developing and mainly aimed at impressing investors and reassuring them of Elon's previous claims (i.e robotaxi fleets etc.). This is why we see almost ALL of the...

    Model 3 front suspension clunking

I've got a similar rattle/clunk coming from my front left, here's a video where you can really here it when driving over some cobblestones (beginning and end of video): Since i have quite a few aftermarket components, Tesla is pretty much useless for troubleshooting or repairing and this is...

    Tesla Service

Service is sadly one of the worst parts about owning a Tesla, the centers are judged on metrics like turnaround time and i'm not surprised they tried to dump you onto another center. Also service itself isn't really a metric that is reported to investors and ultimately only matters if people...

    uneven tire wear warning message

Definitely dont buy tires purely because of Tesla's stupid alert haha i was told by a mobile service tech that a new software update is coming (not sure when) that will let owners clear this alert on their own. Apparently the big hold up is legal since Tesla created lots of liability by adding...

FSD beta expansion to new beta testers June 2022

Wow that's a great summary haha but yea we know its terrible, it's more about getting to see how it progresses and be part of the learning curve. Been waiting 4 years for that chance lol congrats on getting it with a 93 safety score, that's very surprising and im def jealous. It's variable for...

FSD beta expansion to new beta testers June 2022

It really does follow cars very closely, i took a trip to Vegas recently and even on the furthest distance setting (7) my car would follow super close to trucks. At times my auto-lane change refused to work (seemed to happen when it was hottest?) and I had to disengage to pass a truck. Well...

    uneven tire wear warning message

This alert has popped up 3 times for me now, Tesla cleared it the first time during a non-related visit and then it came back. Scheduled a service appt in app hoping they'd just remotely clear, but they insisted on coming to view the tires and take pictures for liability purposes (note this is...

    Supercharger - Yermo, CA (LIVE 21 Nov 2017, 18 V2 Stalls)

That said - I think Tesla is starting to deploy more "plugs" but not necessarily increasing available power at the station. Is it coincidence that 4x chargers at the far end are charging at ~half power and there are 4x new urban chargers? 🤔 Watch that charging rate when you plug in!
  40. kbecks13

    Supercharger - Yermo, CA (LIVE 21 Nov 2017, 18 V2 Stalls)

Seems like the 4-5 chargers farthest away when pulling in are only charging at ~70 kw. Pulled in late at night with only few cars around and tried three chargers before finally getting one that could do full power. If I had to guess they are using some of the power for those far chargers for the...

FSD beta expansion to new beta testers June 2022

Same, were you one of the people who paid for FSD at purchase and then right after they dropped the price for people to add-on post purchase? The remedy for that was a (since deleted) blog post where they said earlier FSD purchasers would get added to the Beta program....that didn't happen...

Cracked Main Screen = Bad Time

I had to pay half the replacement cost ($750) but haven't broken it again since! haha thats good to hear that your screen still works, hopefully it stays that way - mine was going crazy and was unusable.

FSD beta expansion to new beta testers June 2022

Thank you (and others) for adding the details, i have a way better understanding of how they are averaging and calculating things and feel i have a MUCH better shot at getting good scores now. It's a shame it requires this sort of gamification to get the beta but i guess it is what it is, just...

FSD beta expansion to new beta testers June 2022

It's not impossible, but its tough. In Los Angeles if you leave a 1-2 second gap in front of you on the highway, someone will quickly jump in front of you because they think that lane is faster. Following distance is tough for me to do well on and i now try to find empty highway to drive...

FSD beta expansion to new beta testers June 2022

Haha off peak hours in LA means midnight runs essentially ;) is it 100 miles on NAP + 100 driven regularly? I'm at the point where I'm not driving the Model 3 anytime besides nighttime with great conditions to ensure I can finally get this stupid beta after years of waiting.
  47. kbecks13

FSD beta expansion to new beta testers June 2022

Hey all - Been trying for beta for a while and never had much luck. If I'm already down to a 93 score, should i just reset and try again or do you think its worth trying to keep driving to pull it back up? Super hard in LA to keep it high.

Service Center won't/can't fix car [suspension - aftermarket suspension installed]

Lol no worries and my bad for the extra drama, but essentially the bolt came loose and i've recently learned that turned into a bigger problem and may be why Tesla didn't want to repair the vehicle (it would have taken a while). Quick background - these lateral links attach to the front...

Service Center won't/can't fix car [suspension - aftermarket suspension installed]

The negativity comes from others saying things like "torque it and move on" similar to your mention of borrowing a torque wrench. If you genuinely were offering to help, my bad - but this job requires a bit more than a torque wrench, of which i have a few. Appreciate it though!

Service Center won't/can't fix car [suspension - aftermarket suspension installed]

That really didn't seem like a genuine offer of support and instead seemed like an insinuation that the problem wasn't very severe - or was i reading that wrong? Also do you feel comfortable getting underneath the car to tighten such a bolt with only a jack? Personally I dont, but love to hear...
