POLL: vibration felt when slightly accelerating refresh Mode S Plaid or LR

The only thing that runs at a different speed around startup vs. the rest of the drive at the same 25-40mph speeds is the compressor (or at least it is the only thing with enough mass and vibration to be felt within the cabin. aside from driveshafts that is).

POLL: vibration felt when slightly accelerating refresh Mode S Plaid or LR

That vibration (from the compressor) has occurred all the way back to pre-refresh Model S/X. Upon startup on warmer days the compressor can be felt in the steering wheel and footwell on both my 2015 P85DL and 2019 Raven.

POLL: vibration felt when slightly accelerating refresh Mode S Plaid or LR

By 'startup vibration' are you referring to the AC compressor? It has a vibration when running at higher speeds during startup. These are usually dampened but they can resonate/amplify the front DU vibration when both are occurring simultaneously.

Model 3 Camera Defrosters not working

Now that winter has come around again, it appears that the front AP camera defroster no longer functions when needed (again). Currently on 2020.48.30.

Condensation between windshield and front facing cameras

Sentry mode keeps the camera module active, which warms the area above the camera. Not as much as the defroster does, but it is enough to evaporate dew / prevent light frost from forming. I've seen it clear above the camera but not far enough down the windshield to clear the camera's line of...

Sure, check my post in the related thread here.

Condensation between windshield and front facing cameras

Make them show you the defroster working. If you're on any of the recent updates then it should be working, so if it's not, then it might be a hardware issue.

Well well. Look what 2019.40.50.1 magically fixed:

Model 3 Camera Defrosters not working

Yeah, I'd also seen pics that looked like side cameras were heated, but I confirmed there are no heaters (via schematic). Regarding the front defroster, while the service center said it was working fine, followed by another cold day where the camera was blinded by fog, I set up a mobile service...

Model 3 Camera Defrosters not working

Anything come of your appointment? My reply to my email into support gave me the typical 'car logs show nothing abnormal' baloney (warnings were firing off left and right).
  11. malventano

Condensation between windshield and front facing cameras

Best I can recommend is to make a service appointment and to also email and call Tesla, inform them of these details, and to stress that it is not just common to your car, and also results in safety systems being disabled. Ask when you can expect this to be rectified. My guess is that they will...

Condensation between windshield and front facing cameras

Yes, and they used to remain active even while the car was off. I can see how this would waste some power, but whatever change they made (assuming this is a firmware thing) prevents them from heating even with the climate+defroster on continuously for 10-20 minutes: Another issue is that even...

Condensation between windshield and front facing cameras

Thanks to a hard freeze and snow last night, confirmed that defrost activates wiper heaters and side mirror heaters, but fails to activate forward and pillar camera heaters. Windshield with 20 minutes of defrost use (note all cleared except camera area): Wipers cleared just fine: Side mirrors...

Model 3 Camera Defrosters not working

What did Tesla say about your camera heater? Asking because we are having the same issue on our 3 and trying to figure out if Tesla just borked their firmware change or if our heater actually failed. See my post here: Condensation between windshield and front facing cameras
  16. malventano

Condensation between windshield and front facing cameras

I've noticed the same every morning that has been just below freezing. The camera heater used to run even with the car off, but now not only does it not heat while off/idle, but it fails to heat while the car climate control / front windshield defroster is on. Tonight was a good night for me to...

News for Model X owners with the dreaded shudder

That ticking is likely from the axle splines / lug bolt / hub area (lack of lubrication in the case of splines - Tesla has a habit of missing this step), not the same as the other stuff in this thread.

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

I have root access to my car. Updates can be rolled back within some limitations (every so often the gateway version is updated, and that can not be rolled back, limiting how far one can roll back the main firmware). I can't say if other unsupported cars were pushed the 2019.8.3 firmware, but...

News for Model X owners with the dreaded shudder

Well, if you had the bulletin performed and you get only the sound and not the shudder that can be felt, then it may be a different issue. If you pull the frunk bin out and mount a camera such that it is looking rearward between the passenger side of the compressor bracket / passenger drive unit...

News for Model X owners with the dreaded shudder

Having done work on my S front suspension, and looking over the bulletin, the parts that they dismantle for half shaft replacement should be able to be reassembled without impacting alignment. Those links (knuckle to upper control arm / knuckle lower to tie rod) are taper fit and can only really...

News for Model X owners with the dreaded shudder

I did some experimentation with a camera mounted in the front while reproducing the shudder. That 'odd spring sound' is the compressor bracket hitting the passenger side drive unit mount bracket. The compressor is mounted to the drive unit (via isolator bushings), and the shudder frequency seems...

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

They pushed 2019.8.3 to my unsupported / salvage titled car (from 2018.50.6), which seemed odd as the car had not been pushed any prior updates from Tesla since marked as salvage. I accepted the update, but that one also included the bug that broke max battery power / launch mode. 2019.16.2...

...and as of just now my account no longer has the issue. Finally.

ERROR: server failed to response. Is the server running?

Yeah, it definitely appears to be account specific, like some promo thing sent to some folks with multiple cars. Any device / app signed into that specific account gets the popup.
  26. malventano

ERROR: server failed to response. Is the server running?

My report has been in (2x) but I don't think the techs on the other end know how to deal with it and/or escalate it to the folks far enough up the chain that know how to address it. Agreed all others impacted should be contacting support. I recommend calling them vs. email.

Need help buying door handle part Tesla won’t sell to me.

Says who? Their own policy as of September of 2018 states otherwise: "Parts availability is not affected. Any Unrestricted or Over-the-Counter part may be purchased for a Salvage-Titled Vehicle." http://ingineerix.com/pic/?tesla-uvp1 (the paddle gear is not a restricted part) *edit* here’s a pic...

ERROR: server failed to response. Is the server running?

Same exact issues on my end (including the change from 'failed to response' to 'failed to load data...'). I tried starting a ticket a few weeks back and that one went nowhere. I started another a week ago and just finally got a reply with suggestions (power cycle the car...? uhh no). I have a 3...

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

I’m not sure what you mean by ‘hurts’ in this context, but if you’ve ever looked at pretty much any data sheet for these types of cells, you’d see a link between higher C rated charges and reduced cycle life. It may not specifically ‘damage’(hurt) the pack, but higher charge rates will certainly...

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

I know folks haven't dug into this as much as the range issue, but the lower maximum charge voltage should lead to max charge amps falling off at a lower SOC as well as a longer charge time overall since the Vmax is a lower value, and charge current is (roughly) proportional to the difference...

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

Defective (shorted) cells within a group (parallel) would result in the fuses *opening* and removing them from the group. This has no impact on voltage as the other cells of the same group will still charge to 4.2 (or 4.09 after this update). There is no mechanism to 'close' (short) / bypass...

Max Battery Power Missing - Firmware 2019.8.3

A couple of different service center reps so far.
  33. malventano

Max Battery Power Missing - Firmware 2019.8.3

The P100DL is putting out significantly more power when its easter egg mode is enabled, which is why that warning is offered. The 85/90 car packs are not capable of putting out the power levels where Tesla deems it risky to the battery/drivetrain.
  34. malventano

Max Battery Power Missing - Firmware 2019.8.3

253 is the range for a P85DL, not a P90DL. Also, seriously, it was first thought to be a bug and was then acknowledged as a bug and is (supposedly) corrected in 2019.16.1.1, so you don't need to keep carrying the torch on that point. Agreed on your V1 early P90DL point not being able to reach...
  35. malventano

Max Battery Power Missing - Firmware 2019.8.3

You have a fundamental misunderstanding of the differences between 85 and 90 cars in this regard. 85 cars don't typically show a change in peak power in max battery mode. 90 and up cars *do*. While you have observed that only battery heating appears to be gone, your configuration is not the same...

Max Battery Power Missing - Firmware 2019.8.3

Everything I've seen (by behavior and by actions of the various firmwares on various cars) has pointed to this just being a UI bug that prevents max battery power / launch mode from being enabled on 85/90 cars that had such a mode. 100 cars don't appear to be impacted, and shouldn't be since...
  37. malventano

Max Battery Power Missing - Firmware 2019.8.3

They will likely not be able to roll back to 2018.50.6 due to the way downgrades work, however, they should be able to roll back to 2019.4.2 (which is also not impacted by the bug).
  38. malventano

Max Battery Power Missing - Firmware 2019.8.3

The sad part about that is that those who have 'full access' to their own cars can roll back to the prior update, yet Tesla themselves can't manage to correct a bug that removed features from a $100k+ automobile. Even Apple continues to digitally sign previous updates for a period of time after...

    Whoa! Ludicrous+ added to my 2015 Model S P90DL

Perhaps it's the (well known) fact that a P90DL will put down more power when in Max Battery mode? The same bug that is preventing battery heating and launch mode from being enabled is also preventing the drive units from drawing the power levels that they normally would in Max Battery Mode -...

Max Battery Power Missing - Firmware 2019.8.3

Yeah, the battery heating / launch mode is very handy for autocross or other events where you need the pack to be warm at the start of a lap. a cold pack is more sluggish, and available power noticeably falls off below ~30C.
  41. malventano

Max Battery Power Missing - Firmware 2019.8.3

I've never seen launch mode work without max power enabled (on a P85DL). It instead gives the 'both pedals pressed' message on the instrument cluster. Do you know something that we don't? From the manual: To Activate Launch Mode Before activating Launch Mode, it is recommended that the brakes...
  42. malventano

Max Battery Power Missing - Firmware 2019.8.3

You still have to put it into max battery mode, but you shouldn't have to wait for the pack to heat fully before launching.
  43. malventano

Max Battery Power Missing - Firmware 2019.8.3

Launch mode should still work even before the battery has fully heated.
  44. malventano

Max Battery Power Missing - Firmware 2019.8.3

I suspect this one might just be a bonehead move by one of the coders. The pre-Ludi+ cars have always been in this oddball situation where they don't get the same UI experience as the Ludi+ cars (no temperature indication on instrument cluster even though the capability is there, etc). This may...

Max Battery Power Missing - Firmware 2019.8.3

Tesla should be able to do it upon request - remotely. They may not be able to easily roll you all the way back to 2018.50.6, but they should be able to go back to something like 2019.4.2, which still has the old style max battery power mode with launch mode functional (confirmed on a P85DL...
