2023 Model 3 without USS and proximity functionality [park assist / summon not available]

Any chance that the new radar sensors that Tesla is supposedly working on could be used to replace USS in future models?

Anyone else having issue with remote climate controls lately?

Been having issues activating climate controls remotely on both my 2018 Model 3 and my GF's 2023 Model Y. For the last few weeks, trying to turn the climate on via the app results in a timeout error. Both cars have been rebooted, apps have been force quit and restarted, everything (cars and...

2023 Model 3 without USS and proximity functionality [park assist / summon not available]

A friend of mine is interested in a Model Y and was asking about our experience with my GFs 2023 version. I brought up what a huge PITA it is to park thanks to the lack of real parking sensors. He went to the Tesla showroom and a rep told him that the updated Y for 2024 (probably the Y version...

2023 Model 3 without USS and proximity functionality [park assist / summon not available]

I've got 2018 Model 3 with USS. My girlfriend just bought a 2023 Model 3 without. While the graphics are nicer in her car, the accuracy of the parking distances is noticeably worse and borderline unusable (routinely saying the car is right on the curb when it's more than a foot away). TV is not...

Pedestal for outdoor wall charger installation

Getting a Model Y to go with our Model 3 and I’m looking to move our Tesla Wall charger from our garage to an outdoor location closer to the street. (long story) There are a number of metal (aluminum or steel) EV charger pedestals on Amazon but none of them really show how connections work...

TeslaTap vs. Lectron Wall Charger to J1772 adapter

We have a TeslaTap Tesla Wall Charger to J1772 adapter that's stopped working after about 3 years. Causes our wall charger to fault, requiring a reset at the breaker box. I'm looking a replacement and curious if anyone has experience the similar Lectron adapter. It's about $50 cheaper which, on...

    v11 software update SUCKS

It looks like a recent update now displays a little x on the dash cam icon when it's not reading a drive. So, that's an upgrade. But now I'm realizing how often my combo of a Taptes USB hub and micro USB drive stops working. Have to unplug and replug the drive nearly every drive.

    v11 software update SUCKS

Exactly. And while you can add the Dashcam to the customizable menu, the icon isn't "live;" it shows a red dot whether the dash cam is working or not.

    v11 software update SUCKS

To be clear, I was using a 250 gb Sandisk solid state drive that had been recommended on this forum a while back. I'm aware that drives fail, but with the old interface it was easy to see when/whether the dash cam/Sentry mode were operating (or weren't). Now, there's no visible cue.

    v11 software update SUCKS

Well, today somebody at Home Depot left a deep 2” dent in the side of my car. But thanks to the crappy new v11 interface, there was no obvious cue that the USB drive I use for Sentry mode had recently stopped working, so I have no visual evidence of who might be responsible. (I had previously...

    Poll on V11 interface

Yep. I was a huge advocate. But I’ve toned it down since the switch to Tesla Vision. This is another setback. Seems like Tesla keeps making it harder to do very basic things that most drivers would expect to be able do without thought or a lot of fiddling.

Auto seat heaters seem to be set for Pan Sear all the time. I end up having to go back to manual and turn them down. The function is kind of useless IMHO.

    Poll on V11 interface

This update came just as Seattle got walloped by a snowstorm and extreme cold. It quickly became obvious that this inteface design wasn’t really tested with cold weather usage in mind. Everything I needed to do to get the car ready to drive and keep my passengers and myself comfortable was...

Inspect and re-seal front upper control arm by mobile service

For what it's worth, I just took my 2018 M3 in on Monday to deal with a loud squeak that turned out to be the upper control arms. They were both replaced under warranty. Also, the tech informed me that the noise can sound like it's coming from anywhere; in my case it seemed to be emanating from...

    Quality difference between a 2018 and 2021 Model 3

Don't know if this falls into the general improvement category, but I just had to take my 2018 M3 in for service after it developed a loud recurring squeak (like the ropes on a sailboat). It sounded like it was coming from the area above the windshield. Turns out it was the upper control arms...

$1,000 to powdercoat a set of wheels?

I got my 19”wheels powder coated at Seattle Powder Coat down on Leary for less than $500. They even fixed some minor curb rash in the process. They look great.

    Will it buff out?

Wow, that's it? I had somebody scrape paint off of the rear bumper and rear driver's side quarter panel (no structural damage) and it cost nearly $2500 to repair.

    Green New Deal

One could also make a pretty compelling argument that targeted tax credits that favor big corporations is also a form of socialism dressed up as capitalism. You don't hear those companies who benefit (or their investors) complaining about socialism though.

Pacific Northwest Owners (Seattle, Portland, or towns/cities in the region)

Not really sure what your point is. AFAIK, the tax credits for EVs they're talking about will extend to all manufacturers, and may even restore the full credit for companies that have sold more than the initial threshold of 300K vehicles (e.g. Tesla). The event was just that, an event. It's not...

Pacific Northwest Owners (Seattle, Portland, or towns/cities in the region)

The event was for carmakers making the transition from ICE vehicles to BEVs. Tesla never made ICE vehicles. It would have made no sense to invite them. This is a non-story.

Tesla.com - "Transitioning to Tesla Vision"

Interesting. Though I'd be surprised if that generosity extended to pre-2019 Model 3 owners (like me) who don't opt for FSD.

Tesla.com - "Transitioning to Tesla Vision"

I'm curious about this. I thought the first cars with HW 3 were Model 3s produced in 2019? Did you have yours retrofitted?
  32. kpedraja

Tesla.com - "Transitioning to Tesla Vision"

Is your 2017 M3 equipped with HW 2.5 or did you upgrade to HW 3? You mention FSD performance so I'm assuming you upgraded. But if not, I'd be curious how they stack up after you have software parity in both cars.

Tesla.com - "Transitioning to Tesla Vision"

If you're tooling along at 75 mph and your car suddenly slams on the brakes because it can't figure out what's going with an overpass (as has happened to me more than once) and someone is following just a little too close, that can be a really huge problem.

Tesla.com - "Transitioning to Tesla Vision"

The thing is, though, that if there are enough unhappy customers, you can potentially find a law firm that will take on a class action lawsuit on contingency for a substantial portion of the settlement. As I've posted elsewhere, Tesla has not said word 1 about whether cars with HW2.5. have the...

Discussion: Tesla Vision system for Model 3/Y

IANAL, but I have to wonder if Tesla is opening itself up to a class action lawsuit if enough people who bought cars with a list of features find themselves without some of those features for an extended period of time, or potentially a permanent reduction in capability (there's nothing but...

Discussion: Tesla Vision system for Model 3/Y

Scheduled servicing: Is there a recommended mileage or amount of time?

My Model 3 will hit 3 years this fall. When I first got the car I recall reading that there was a schedule for a regular servicing, something like 2 years, but that wasn't confirmed in any documentation or confirmation I got from Tesla. So is there a regular service interval? If so, what and...

For those of you installed Tesla official roof rack on model 3, did you encounter any problems for mounting bikes on top?

I have the roof racks installed and have used them to haul 2 road bikes using Thule fork-mount bike racks. No issues so far, though I haven't done much highway mileage in that set up. I've also mounted a Thule roof box packed to the gills with camping equipment and while the box has been blown...

Annual license plate renewal fees - how much in your state?

As I've said before, I'm fine with a fee that replaces the gas tax (which WA imposes). But EV owners pay two additional fees simply for the privilege of driving an EV. It's counterproductive to encouraging EV adoption and penalizes people for doing the right thing. We'd be better off imposing an...

Annual license plate renewal fees - how much in your state?

Yes, the RT3 tax is hefty, not to mention being indexed in a terrible way. But I'm OK paying for real mass transit. I've been in Seattle long enough that I remember a tax almost as big as RT3 for a ridiculous monorail project that never got off the ground (pun intended).

    $1200 to repair?

I had an old guy hit my Model 3 while it was sitting in a parking lot (the Sentry cam video of him just completely misjudging the trajectory into the parking space next to me, hitting my car, then getting out of his to rub the damage and literally doddering off – is almost funny). Mostly paint...
