    Unsworth Vs Musk defamation trial

I think you may be wrong about that. I am not sure but I thought that Unsworth played a very key role in organizing a very complex rescue.

Battery drain while parked or car in storage

This is not good advice. The only reason to charge above 90% is to go far.

Battery drain while parked or car in storage

I have done this a lot. The 1% loss per day that people used to experience is no longer an issue. There is no need to try to find a way to leave it plugged in or to charge above 80%. As others have mentioned, sentry mode uses power and should be off. Parked and sleeping, your model 3 will use...

Ideal amps for charging long range model 3 at home

Also, it helps you take care of your battery. You know where 20% and 80% are without doing a calculation. I also think it is more accurate because percent is a simple function of voltage for 21700 cell chemistry.

Ideal amps for charging long range model 3 at home

my 2 cents: charge speed at home is rarely an issue since you are there overnight. 20 amps, 32, 50 amps all work fine. They key advantage of the Wall Mounted Connector from Tesla is the convenience and that you can leave the mobile connectors in your car where you may use them now and then.

12 volt battery issues and charging protocol. Relationship to very low vampire drain?

Agree. I am not thinking there is any problem. Just curious. Not sure what you mean about the main batteries.

12 volt battery issues and charging protocol. Relationship to very low vampire drain?

Thanks. That is a very cool post! If you have a blue tooth data logging voltmeter, you could hook it up to the 12v battery, close the frunk, and log voltage for a while and just read it on your phone with the frunk closed. (Maybe turn off the Tesla app so that the car does not wake up due to...

12 volt battery issues and charging protocol. Relationship to very low vampire drain?

I just read Syonyk's blog post on the Model S 12 volt battery issues and charging patterns from 2016, which is really interesting. I guess at that time there were some issues with how the 12 volt battery was charged and used and there were a lot of failures at that time. I was wondering if...

Using an inverter to charge a computer: recommendations? cautionary tales? effect on 12 v battery?

I think you are totally right. Based on what I have seen, I am guessing the power port is powered exclusively by the DC-DC converter and that the power port is on if and only if the contactors are closed. I think the voltage there is about 14.9 volts in my model 3.

    Tesla autopilot HW3

Like you, I love autopilot and the fact that all i had to do to get it was buy a model 3. Waymo feels like pie in the sky to me. How much do you know about their tech? Are you really sure it is better? How fast do Waymo cars go in auto mode? I get the feeling that your opinions are bona fide and...

Using an inverter to charge a computer: recommendations? cautionary tales? effect on 12 v battery?

Do you mean when the screen is on? If that's true then maybe there is no effect on the 12 volt battery? I get the impression the 12v power port is only active when the screen is on, though i haven't used it at all yet myself. Does anyone have recent experience with that?

Using an inverter to charge a computer: recommendations? cautionary tales? effect on 12 v battery?

Well, I bought the inverter. Funny thing is we are converting 12 Vdc at the power port up to 110 VAC and the plugging in an apple charger that drops that down to about 8 VDC to charge the Li-ion Mac battery. I wonder how much is lost in all that (and if a serious hacker could create something...

Using an inverter to charge a computer: recommendations? cautionary tales? effect on 12 v battery?

I know you are joking, but, well, the power is there since a fridge just uses a few kWh per day so the traction battery has the capacity to run a fridge for about 20 days in principle. That would be an interesting hack. Peak draw for a fridge is i believe about 6 amps (700 Watts).

"Tesla Model 3 Produces More CO2 than a Diesel Car" - Please debunk

This article is total nonsense. Union of Concerned Scientists has debunked this garbage many times over. It is the case that diesel cars, while the emit a lot of PAHs (black soot), do tend to have less CO2 emission than gasoline cars. Model 3 is at least a factor of 2 lower in CO2 emission than...

Using an inverter to charge a computer: recommendations? cautionary tales? effect on 12 v battery?

It would be interested to know more about the battery and the charging protocol. Does the battery have the thick, solid electrodes associated true deep cycle, more porous electrodes used for high current, or somewhere in between? I guess you are saying porous although Hammer was thinking...

Using an inverter to charge a computer: recommendations? cautionary tales? effect on 12 v battery?

Interesting. I wonder how we can confirm if that is the case. Also, my impression is the the 12 volt port is active only when the contactors are closed. (Is that true?) It is unclear to me when or if the 12 volt port is powered by the battery.

Using an inverter to charge a computer: recommendations? cautionary tales? effect on 12 v battery?

PS. The inverter I am thinking of getting is the Bestek 300 Watt pure sine wave. I am thinking that the power port only puts out 12 amps and about 150 Watts, but I could not find a smaller inverter that was pure sine wave. Maybe it is okay to have that buffer anyway? I am not really sure...

Using an inverter to charge a computer: recommendations? cautionary tales? effect on 12 v battery?

I am thinking of getting an inverter and using that to charge a computer and maybe some other things. My macbook air battery has a capacity of about 50 Watt-hours, which is roughly about 1/3 of the useable capacity of the 12 volt battery of the model 3, so it seems reasonable, but I wonder if 12...

    Beach rental property destination charger

Well for just Teslas the wall mounted connector with 30 or 40 amp capacity is very convenient and does fine outside in coastal california. For a more versatile ev charger, yes, maybe the J1772 as others mentioned.

Poll: For those with Zero degradation, what level do you set your charge limit?

I respectfully disagree. I also think that charging to 70% is fine if you want to. Maybe once in a blue moon charge to 90% and you won't have this pathological issue.
  29. M

Poll: For those with Zero degradation, what level do you set your charge limit?

I think the essence of what ewood is saying is that many people worry too much about the mileage range they see and that variations in that often just come from inaccuracy in the state of charge estimation. Those inaccuracies are unimportant and do not indicate battery degradation. There is...

So Why Does the 12V Battery Die?

I am sorry for your problems. I think your car is an extreme outlier. My 3 is 100% reliable. How are things now? Did your problems get fixed? What was the origin of your troubles?
  31. M

FUD I believe in. There is an enormous leap from a safe Level 2 system to a safe Level 3-5 system.

I appreciate your concern and i think it is bona fide, but i believe that statistics show an excellent safety track record. Your theoretical concerns seem to make sense but do not reflect what actually happens on the road.

    Battery degradation or BMS error?

I totally agree with DarthVader. Do not charge to 100% for any reason other than you want to drive far. You don't need to calibrate anything like SoC or worry about balancing. The advice to charge to 100% is unscientific and not ideal for your battery.

Does there exist a charging efficiency curve or table?

I think it is power added to battery divided by power coming from wall vs SoC (binned in 1% intervals)
  35. M

Does there exist a charging efficiency curve or table?

I would be interested to see that too. I think the reason it is difficult to find is that it is a very small effect. You can measure it yourself with a Watt-hour meter (using 110 V charging, for example). You can compare the Whrs used to get from 55 to 55% to what you use to get from 93% to 98%...

Model 3 maximum current or power allowed?

We do know most of that. The cell capacity for a 21700 is 5 Ah. The configuration is 46p x 96s (as DarthVader mentioned), the internal resistance, that is a little harder. It changes with age, but I think when new you get about a 50 volt to 90 volt drop, somewhere in that range when drawing at...

EAP on highway 17 in California?

I would be interested in hearing from people who use EAP on highway 17 (like from Los Gatos to Santa Cruz)? How well does it work? How does it deal with that curvy road? I use EAP quite a bit, about 80% of the time, but so far I haven't really used it much on Hwy17. I imagine it might work...

Help me decide if I buy FSD this weekend, or not! ONCE AND FOR ALL.

If you have the $ I would buy it now. You might save money. What you are buying, what I bought, is whatever Tesla does going forward to make EAP even better. EAP drives the car for me about 80% of the time as it is. That impresses me. It is beyond my expectations. Tesla is the leader in this...

    Explain "Chill" Mode please.....

That seems reasonable. 280 hp for the normal AWD, and 204 hp for chill mode. That would mean HP is about 0.73 of normal. On the other hand, 0-60 time is about 7.6 s for chill vs 4.6 s for normal, which leads to a slightly different ratio (0.61). Maybe that difference could be due to drag?
  42. M

    Explain "Chill" Mode please.....

Does anyone know what chill mode actually is, in terms of horsepower or kW? What is actually different from say an LR AWD in normal mode?
  43. M

    Explain "Chill" Mode please.....

This suggests: from 0-35 mph acceleration is mostly battery limited (since rwd and awd are similar) from 35-60 the acceleration is mostly motor limited (awd and p3 are similar) p3 battery will put out more current and power at lower speeds. Does that make sense?
  44. M

Model 3 maximum current or power allowed?

Thanks Alan and BM3B. That seems reasonable. Sounds like it is limited to about what they call "3C" or a little less, which for a model 3 battery pack would be 690 amps, i.e. about 15 amps per cell. (Each cell has a capacity of about 5Ah.) I am guessing that a performance model 3 is able to...

What’s the average Wh/mi you are getting

I am surprised by the low numbers here. Driving on hwy 101 in california at about 78 mph, I would consider myself fortunate to get 29 miles per 10% charge (7500 Watts), which corresponds to about 259 Wh per mile. Not nearly as good as what most people are reporting here. (and I have aero wheels...

Model 3 maximum current or power allowed?

Does anyone have a pretty good idea (guess) as to what the maximum current draw an LR model 3 battery can generate for regular and performance options. I am guessing it is somewhere in the neighborhood of 1000 amps roughly or about 4C. I have tried to search this but mostly I'm just finding...
