Heroic Driver Sacrifices His Tesla To Save Unconscious Man In Runaway Volkswagen

According to the interview, the VW was going around 40 km/h at the time, so it wasn't going at breakneck speed (though certainly enough to leave a bigger bump than that.) Mr. Kick explained in the interview that he intentionally breaked hard enough for the initial impact to register with the...

    Volkswagen Gigafactory

For the record, the linked article was from a UK website, hence the price tag in pound. The factory, if built in Germany, would be paid in Euros. Or Deutsche Mark I guess, if the EU deflates until then.

You are right VW emissions scandal: VW Group agrees to $15bn settlement with US owners In the second part of this article it's discussed. LED Lights... Harmful to health?

The article seems sensible. Lighting has a strong impact on human health & the psyche, so it should be chosen with great care, rather than with a "brighter is better" approach. I feel that the title of this thread is a bit misleading however. It's not that LEDs are harmful, it's that light of a...

An electric car that virtually can mimic any other car.

That's genius. Wonder how many car manufacturers are going to "overtune" the driving characteristics of their cars using something like this? But no. They would never fake the apparent performance of their products

    Watch out for solar panels!!!

That's really as far as you need to read that. All this said, I wouldn't rule out the possibility that large scale windfarming has an impact on weather patterns and airflow on a regional or even global scale. The entire system is more sensitive than most people realise.

Ticket While Using AUTO-PILOT " Failure To Stay In Lane" "Reckless"

While things in Canada might be different, in Germany going too slow without good reason is actually illegal. What we were told in driving school was "10 km/h under, 5 km/h over can cost you the attempt." Granted, going 85 in a 100 zone would likely not result in you being fined, but you're...

Beef; I'll miss you most of all....

Is there a typo here? Because otherwise you end up with having CO2 in the atmosphere after these reactions, so it's still worse than plain CO2. In addition, a very brief layman research to Wikipedia shows that the "30 times worse" figure is measured over 100 years. So 1kg of Methane will trap...

AWD on the Model S improves efficiency because the two motors are geared for maximum efficiency at different speeds. Glass that generates electricity

Well... you don't park outside in the middle of DeathValley all too often, and that will also heat your car up immensely. The energy harvest would be fairly slim, and car glass has other pirorities (crash safety strikes me as highest on the list), not sure if you can treat carglass the same way...

    Glass that generates electricity

I respectfully disagree with that. Exploring new options shouldn't be delayed until the current ones are exhausted. And as said, whether this is worth it or not depends exactly on the cost factor. If it turnes out that the cost for this type of glass/solar arrangement beats the cost of regular...

    Glass that generates electricity

Indeed... I'm curious as to how expensive the process of treating the glass to make it work it's magic is, but I guess the numbers on that are not final yet. But to me the idea doesn't seem as inherently flawed as, say, putting solar panels underneath roads. Also NotAboutTheMoney, you make a...

    Glass that generates electricity

Well, it doesn't seem to be "worth it" as the amount seems low. But on the other hand: 717,444$/ 2,400sqm = 298,93$/sqm. Unless my googling skills fail me, glass costs somewhere around 50$ per sqm, so the solar glass can cost around 6-7 times per square meter what regular glass costs and still...

    Glass that generates electricity

Unable to provide proper numbers for this in a timely fashion, can I get out of this by claiming I meant in absolute terms, and since it's just gonna be a tiny bit harvested anyway, losing 50% or so due to bad angle makes you lose just "half a tiny bit"?

    Glass that generates electricity

From the article: From my understanding, current Solar panels range anywhere between 15-22% in efficency, so at 1%, they are at 1/15th to 1/22nd of what normal panels can achieve, with the 5% figure improving that to a factor of 3-4. Using numbers from this very good piece on Solar...

Battery with anode made of mushrooms

Interesting read, would be wonderful if it could be made to work. Though whether they would be able to last for 8+ years remains to be seen, and building your batteries around replacing the Anodes would more likely than not nullify most advantages you gain here, if it's even possible.

    It's going to take the village to save our future;

Simply put, we have to put a price on carbon, be it through taxes, certificates or other means. Emission of carbon dioxide is an externality that's not being priced properly, if at all, by most current systems. This is called "Market failure" and most economic theories call for regulations...

Never say never. As others pointed out, lumping the LEAF and the Model S in the same bucket, assuming they get the same Wh/Mile is flat out wrong.
