Our thoughts on FSD Beta now detecting Autopilot cheat devices | TMC Podcast Clip

I use a cheat device as the warning for the autopilot attention is blocked by my steering wheel. There is no way for me to see it. If it would be on the main middle screen - that would be wonderful as I could actually see the flipping thing! Did a 5-hour road trip this weekend and was getting...

Model X Shudder - Shutter. Legal standing

Meh, I haven't decided what my next EV will be. But it won't be a corner-cutting, low-quality, rattling and creaking Tesla for which I have to replace the half-shafts once a year. So much for the no maintenance thing, eh? It will also be nice to hear my companion and not be deafened by the...

Quietest and best riding 22" tire for 2018 MX?

Thanks. I will have to check it out. So far I've adjusted my rear hatch, filled the A pillars with expandable foam, and purchased $300 thick floor mats. These actions didn't seem to make any noticeable improvements.

Model X Shudder - Shutter. Legal standing

Yeah. Only the most die-hard Tesla fan boi is going to put more money into a low quality vehicle like a Tesla. The REAL auto manufacturers are catching up and soon there will be a glut of cheap, used Tesla's on the market with greatly reduced battery range. Test drove a BMW iX SUV a few weeks...

Model X Shudder - Shutter. Legal standing

Following. 37K on my 2018 MX. Have already had half shafts replaced once. I never beat on the car - never floor it. I am starting to feel the shuddering again when I take off at a moderate speed from about 20MPH. I loathe to take it to the service center as the low-IQ mongoloids there will...

Quietest and best riding 22" tire for 2018 MX?

Thanks all, for your replies. I researched the options and there really weren't that many. The thought of blowing $2K on tires for a car that I hope to rid myself of by the end of the year (lowest quality car I've ever owned in my life excepting the 70s and 80s American-made beaters I had when...

Just realized that Tesla changed the dashcam from continuous to a 1-hour loop - how moronic!

Thanks. I never like to argue with people on the internet but I am now positive that the Tesla dashcam used to work as most external dashcams that I've used - i.e., the footage is saved indefinitely until overwritten or purposely deleted.

Quietest and best riding 22" tire for 2018 MX?

2018 MX here. Managed to squeeze 36K miles out of the original Pirelli Scorpion tires. But the tread depth is nearing the wear bars so I am starting to research my next set of tires. I've been reading this forum (and others) and the opinions on tires are overwhelming and often contradictory...

    Model X Reliability

I don't doubt what you say and agree with you that the software updates are usually great. Maybe I have a car that was built on a Friday. Funny thing is one time I had my car in the service center when they still used to give loaners. I got another MX, same year, same feature set, wheels...

Just realized that Tesla changed the dashcam from continuous to a 1-hour loop - how moronic!

Perhaps I'm thinking of my other car or a previous car. That said, I still stand by my statement that it is utterly moronic to have a 1-hour loop on driving footage but to save sentry clips for months. Thanks! 😁

    Model X Reliability

2018 MX here. I find that I'm in the service center a 2-3 times per year for quirky problems usually related to all the corners that are cut in the manufacture of Teslas. Thus, comparing the first 3 years of owning a Tesla (many service visits) to the 3-year lease of my previous Audi Q5 (1...

Just realized that Tesla changed the dashcam from continuous to a 1-hour loop - how moronic!

Got a ticket last weekend and decided to look at the dashcam recordings from my Tesla. For the dashcam footage, I had the day before and nothing else. For sentry I have clips going all the way back to September of 2021! After some research on the web, I see that Tesla only saves the last hour...

Subtle clunk noise when flooring it or slamming on the brakes - any ideas?

Thanks for the video. It was interesting to watch this. 👍 But, what I'm experiencing is more like a muffled thunk and I really have to mash the gas pedal or slam on the brakes to hear it.

Subtle clunk noise when flooring it or slamming on the brakes - any ideas?

Hi All! Thanks for your replies. But it is definitely not something moving around in the interior, in the frunk (the tow hook is stuffed under the carpet), or in the rear storage area. The clunk slightly reverberates throughout the car (I can even feel it in my seat and the gas pedal) which...

Auto-open door not fully opening when approaching from front!

Definitely. Happens if I'm on a wide street with no one or any other car around. In my drive way. In the Tesla Service Center parking lot with nothing else around. It saddens me that Telsa service just lies when they don't feel like fixing a problem. "Oh... uh... yeah. A firmware update...

Subtle clunk noise when flooring it or slamming on the brakes - any ideas?

Hi All, Late 2018 MX here. For at least a year now I occasionally hear a clunk noise when I mash the accelerator pedal. Likewise, the same noise if I slam on the brakes. Took the car to the service center and I couldn't reproduce the problem. Seems to happen more going up a hill or if I...

Shawn! You're a genius! My GPS has been frozen for 3 days and had a mobile service appt scheduled. Tried your trick and it worked! Thanks so much!

Auto-open door not fully opening when approaching from front!

Hi All, I have a 2018 MX and really appreciate the auto-open door feature. I remember when I first got the car the driver's door would open all the way regardless if one would approach the car from the back or the front. Sometimes this was worrisome if the car was parked on the street and...

    Zero Regeneration Braking!

Yes! December 2018 MX here and I cannot tell the difference between regen or no regen setting at highway speeds. When I let off the gas at highway speeds there is no regen and the brake lights don't come on (on the display). Regen seems to be noticeable only below 40mph. And, fun fact...

Rental Model X rides much quieter and smoother than my 2018. What gives?

Yes. Most definitely. The only differences was that the rental was a 2016 (I said 2017 before but was wrong) and a 75D. Mine is a 2018 and a 100D. Tires, wheels, air suspension the same. Thanks.

Rental Model X rides much quieter and smoother than my 2018. What gives?

Thanks. The tires were almost shot on the rental. So this could have contributed to the quieter, smoother ride?

Yeah. Sort of what I thought. Tesla - never again.

Rental Model X rides much quieter and smoother than my 2018. What gives?

Took my MX manufactured 12/18 with 13K miles to the service center for some minor repairs. They let me borrow a 2017 75D with 35K miles. The ride quality is much smoother and more compliant than my car. The road noise is also noticeably less. The cars both have the 22" wheels with the...

Adaptive Cruise - Car buffer/car length feature no longer works

Thanks. Yes, I agree with what you are saying. I would not want to be 1 car length behind someone while driving 80mph. On a city street with stop lights and puttering along at 15mph? I think 1-2 car lengths is acceptable. I just drove into work and was testing it both on the highway at...

Adaptive Cruise - Car buffer/car length feature no longer works

Hi All. Any others experiencing this issue? Or do you have any suggestions on how to resolve? I just received yet another update and am now on 2019.16.2. Yet the problem persists. I've recently been driving more in heavier traffic and, as the car seems to be "defaulting" to a 3 car length...

Adaptive Cruise - Car buffer/car length feature no longer works

Doesn't matter if I'm going 80mph or in stop and go city traffic. Before it was very noticeable when I changed the car lengths - the car would speed up or slow down to change the distance (usually would change at highway speeds). Now... nothing.

Adaptive Cruise - Car buffer/car length feature no longer works

I've owned my X for about 3 months. I use AP (autosteer and cruise) very often. Lately I've noticed that the car buffer/follow distance setting has zero effect. Before it was very noticeable to change the car length follow feature for AP - the car would quickly speed up and slow down when...

    Chrome Delete Mirrors

Thanks. And how do you get around the problem of where the mirror swivels on the base? Do you put tape down there or leave it uncovered?
  30. markinsf

    Chrome Delete Mirrors

Yeah. Not sure what costs are like where you live. I already spent $3k for a bumper, hood, fenders, and rocker panel clear film. I would not attempt to do that big of a job (especially without a helper) but the chrome delete seems doable and it you mess up it's easy and cheap to just remove...

    Chrome Delete Mirrors

Where is the seam? On the leading edge of the mirror base? I'm no expert but I would think that wind would eventually lift this seam.
  32. markinsf

    Chrome Delete Mirrors

I'm confused watching this video by "Tesla DIY." Is he actually putting a panel of vinyl on top and bottom with the seam on the leading edge of the mirror "pedestal?" It would seem that wind and rain would eventually pull these panels (top and bottom) loose. Am I missing something here...

Does anybody regret buying Model X for your main car?

I've owned my Model X for about a month now. It replaced a 2016 Audi Q5 3.0T I leased and will be turning in tomorrow. I just got back from a 2-hour cruise in the Audi as basis for comparison. Some of my observations in no particular order: Ride quality: I was actually a little nervous...

    WTB/WTTF Model X, Have Porsche 911

Don't blame you. From what I've read Telsa does not sell any CPO cars - just used cars. And from the horror stories on the internet there's no way I would ever take a chance. Private party all the way where you can see and drive the car.

    Selling My Model X--Beautiful Car!

Love, love this color. It's too bad they got rid of it. Gray is the only color I can stomach on the X. Best of luck selling it!
