Work in progress: stalks on 2021 Model S. (and optional round-y wheel)

nice work. if you are sending the turn signal messages over CAN, I highly recommend you reconsider. Tesla has changed the CAN messages for the indicators at least 6 times since the Plaid was introduced, and it will almost certainly break and be a support problem. The LIN messages have never...

Unfortunately, I just don’t have time.

Work in progress: stalks on 2021 Model S. (and optional round-y wheel)

Finally, if anyone wants a fully functional setup that has required no software changes since it was first installed, I will accept reasonable offers to buy the Plaid. I'm in no rush to sell, but if someone wants it, sure.

Work in progress: stalks on 2021 Model S. (and optional round-y wheel)

I shopped the "make this into a thing you own and sell/support" around to many people but no one actually took me up on it. I tried, but it is probably too niche to catch on. (though with tesla deleting stalks on other vehicles, that may change. I simply don't have time to support this and do it...

Work in progress: stalks on 2021 Model S. (and optional round-y wheel)

It depends on the voltage you supply. My design sends 5v from the microcontroller and the returned voltages are actually 'learned' by the code I wrote, so I don't know them offhand. The variability of voltages for different wiring led me to just make it learn the ranges dynamically, instead of...

I'm super curious whether the wheel will finally have a center horn. My $$ is on "no".

Work in progress: stalks on 2021 Model S. (and optional round-y wheel)

Because I'm a tinkerer4lyfe, I'm gonna buy the new round one to play. I can pretty easily reassign the haptic buttons and add stalks, so it might turn out to be a neat solution. My only concern is the size. I love the model 3 wheel size and don't want something like the bus-sized wheel I had in...

Work in progress: stalks on 2021 Model S. (and optional round-y wheel)

This exact wheel existed on the prototype cars. They just decided to make it an option.

Wheel is the new default. If that’s not admitting defeat, what is? Still no stalks. LOL. Enjoy.

Work in progress: stalks on 2021 Model S. (and optional round-y wheel)

I know some folks just want stalks but wish to keep the yoke. I am going to do a quick pseudy-survey for folks watching this thread: If you are interested in a wheel + stalks, please react to this message with the green lightbulb thingy. If you are interested in a yoke + stalks setup, please...

Work in progress: stalks on 2021 Model S. (and optional round-y wheel)

I have a friend who is interested and motivated to handle all aspects of marketing/selling this, so I am strongly considering it. But just be aware that this thing is going to be sold for a premium, to make it worth his (and my) time. The fact that I've been using it for over a year with zero...

Work in progress: stalks on 2021 Model S. (and optional round-y wheel)

Just to set expectations here, the oem heated wheel is $1k and clockspring with stalks is 250. Shrouds are 120. That’s just the parts before any wiring or my custom stuff. You can find some of these on eBay but ynmv and heated wheels are not cheap there.

Work in progress: stalks on 2021 Model S. (and optional round-y wheel)

Just a note on this: Tesla rarely changes CAN messages, but it does happen, and with some other projects I've had to update to handle those changes, but rarely. In this case I am using mostly LIN messages, which has been completely stable/unchanged since I purchased the vehicle. The nice thing...

Work in progress: stalks on 2021 Model S. (and optional round-y wheel)

The main issue with this is that it is very much a hardware _and_ software solution and requires buildout of both, with hardware being the harder part. You have to talk LINx2 and CANx2 (minimum, 3 can if you want suspension height control). We got to the point of decent prototype boards, but it...

Work in progress: stalks on 2021 Model S. (and optional round-y wheel)

Hey folks, just fyi (and no surprise, surely), I'm done with this project. I had sporadic motivation to work on it, and then I'd remember Elon is a crap person and lose motivation. This isn't politics, fwiw, I just dislike charlatans. Add to that how much I prefer my Rivian, and it is time to...

Work in progress: stalks on 2021 Model S. (and optional round-y wheel)

If you are talking about my car, it is absolutely still working with zero changes on the latest Tesla firmwares. The key is probably that I'm not using CAN much and I'm fully emulating the yoke's shitty haptics, and those LIN messages probably won't change often, if ever.

HMU when I can join the class action lawsuit. I'm in for all three times I wasted money on this nonsense.

Narrator: "That, like all prior and subsequent statements about FSD, turned out to be untrue."

Anyone switching to a Rivian R1T after watching reviews?

Not even a little. I did a bit of a silly towing test with the rivian and am optimistic that it will be overall fine for the 1 or less times a year I need to tow cross country. For unencumbered driving the range is more than sufficient and charging above 65% is rarely needed.

Anyone switching to a Rivian R1T after watching reviews?

Rivian engineers state approx a .30 CoD Elon says with extreme effort the cybertruck might hit that: I have the 22" sport wheels, which seem to be a good bit more efficient that the all terrain setup. Nothing surprising about that, though. I had crazy 20+mph cross/head winds on approx 1500 of...

Anyone switching to a Rivian R1T after watching reviews?

I kinda wondered if the tmc forums would be all over the Rivian fud train, and sad to see they are. A few things after 4500 miles in my R1T: 1) Fast charging worked fine and I drove from the factory in Normal, IL -> Ann Arbor, MI and back, then from Normal, IL -> Santa Monica, CA. The...

Work in progress: stalks on 2021 Model S. (and optional round-y wheel)

Hey folks. I know it has been long stretches of zero useful updates, but just know that there are a few things at play: 1) I always underestimate the effort required to replicate something that took me weeks, and somehow think you can just throw it together and it isn't hard. If I had released...

    CCS Adapter for North America

I’m gonna miss having Tesla+CCS to myself in the US, but welcome to the club, new friends. :) Edit: and the setec doesn’t count because it was so slow I barely used it. 150kW CCS or gtfo.

    CCS Adapter for North America

The adapter can reportedly handle more without issue. They may just be rating it for continuous use or something with allowed peaks higher. No idea tbh. But the evhub one I have is functionally identical and does 500A, which is why I know the official one will too. I know someone who has one and...

    CCS Adapter for North America

I think we are saying the same thing ? I am just pointing out that the ccs1 adapter from Korea says 300A on the label but if you plug it in to a US car and a 500A ccs1 station, it will pull 500a today. They could limit it however they want, but they currently do not do so.
  31. R

    CCS Adapter for North America

There is no such limit. The Tesla adapter has no active circuitry and the car’s ecu allows 500A over ccs.

    Setec CCS to Tesla Adapter

I mentioned somewhere in this enormous thread, but I’ve stopped using the modified one entirely and do not recommend you try. My temperature monitoring showed a trend toward higher temps that was pronounced enough to tell me that something inside of the Tesla end of the setec was breaking down...

Work in progress: stalks on 2021 Model S. (and optional round-y wheel)

I made a new prototype for someone to test, and was able to make it much more compact. This does everything, aside from gear selector (PRND). 100% LIN (no CAN).

Work in progress: stalks on 2021 Model S. (and optional round-y wheel)

O The buzzer was loose and was the reason it sounded cheap the entire time I had it. I drove a friend’s car and realized the haptics really don’t make a noise at all when the yoke is working properly.

Work in progress: stalks on 2021 Model S. (and optional round-y wheel)

Dude, we know. You’ve shared your opinion multiple times in this very thread. I am happy you like the yoke, but the unique perspective you don’t have Is the chance to try both in the Plaid. I appreciate that you’re enjoying the journey here, but your opinions don’t really add to the...

Work in progress: stalks on 2021 Model S. (and optional round-y wheel)

Hey folks, it turns out I did have a defective yoke. I had a number of service items and Tesla did a great job fixing all of them. To get the yoke replaced, I obviously reinstalled my old one and undid all of my work so that service wouldn’t have an issue replacing it. I’ve had the car back for...

    CCS Adapter for North America

Without watching CAN data, you don't know what temp your battery is sitting at. With CCS, even 70F isn't enough to get the fast charge rates. Based on the disparity between power from the station and power reported by the car, your pack was definitely being heated. It takes a minimal amount of...

Thanks for your patience as my car is in and out of Tesla Service :) A bit of an update, here are the raw photos of me building the SCCM cable you'll need to do ANY mods. This is a good thing to get done sooner than later if you want to do a mod of your own, as it is time consuming and requires...

Why the Yoke is unsafe for the Track

Maybe people can just have opinions and that’s okay? Stating it as fact doesn’t make it true. People are bent out of shape trying to convince each other of something that comes down to personal preference. (By which I mean I hope you prefer the yoke, because again you don’t have a choice.)

Why the Yoke is unsafe for the Track

Yes good job parroting top Tesla fanboy Munro. Seriously who cares? Use whatever you want. (By which I mean use the yoke because you have no choice.) xoxo

Why the Yoke is unsafe for the Track

If you want the story of what happened, I posted it on reddit (and it is also in the video description).. "I was stuck two cars back from a slower Plaid that ignored the "passing flag" to let us go by (for almost two full laps), and thus was driving annoyed. I'm glad I inadvertently sent myself...

    CCS Adapter for North America

Here, how about an upbeat, simple photo of two Plaids (and one confused Bolt) enjoying CCS and both of us being able to skip the supercharger line on race weekend. Also in the most random of occurrences, I met @cwerdna in person at an EA station on the way home. I knew he was a nerd like me...

    CCS Adapter for North America

Yeah, I can see that I'm not gonna convince anyone here, even if I'm one of the only people outside of Tesla to ever charge a Tesla with a fully supported CCS option. The I-95 thing was amateur hour, and I agree. But I know they didn't take that incident lightly, and I bet you won't see a ****up...

    CCS Adapter for North America

Depends how they manage it. Government regulation and oversight is what forced VW to create the (as of this moment) largest CCS network in the United States. edit: there is plenty of room to point out the failures of government, and they happen with regularity, but you can't just ignore things...
