Aux input into Model 3 (or: FM modulation questions)

Wow @sduck, thank you for investing the time and money trying to find one that works. Totally understand about getting frustrated and throwing it in a pile. Totally agree @Skyking1066. Like many other issues, it's so frustrating that there is no official Tesla UserVoice or other public feedback...

Aux input into Model 3 (or: FM modulation questions)

I agree, each to their own. But to answer your question, yes the extra steps necessary to get Bluetooth quality over FM quality far outweigh the effort to me. If FM and Bluetooth sound equal to your ears, or if the extra sound quality is not worth the extra effort to you, then FM should be fine.

Aux input into Model 3 (or: FM modulation questions)

Actually, I'd much rather go the route Mr. Duck did than go through the FM tuner. Mr. Duck, can you share the make and model number of the device you managed to get working this way?

    12v Switched?

This is not meant to be argumentative, but I was wondering if you would mind linking to a source that supports this statement? As far as I know, the only alternative to an unfused circuit is an unsafe one. If there is a dead short, that current has to go go somewhere. I am not aware of any...

    12v Switched?

There are no fuses in the Model 3 (source 1, source 2, source 3. More sources available on Google). Every circuit should be protected. It wouldn't be safe for Tesla to have unprotected circuits. Now I'm not suggesting to completely disregard the load limit for any circuit. However, if the load...

    12v Switched?

If that power pattern works for you, then sure you can use it. For me, I've been dealing with sleep issues for months. Some days it would take hours to sleep. Some days it wouldn't sleep at all. During this time my amplifier was getting very hot. I also have a laser wire system that generates...

    Battery discharging after 2020.20.13 update

Sorry folks that I didn't notice this was an X specific thread before posting. But when @Bigriver pointed that out it just motivated me further to continue digging in. I feel pretty silly, but my particular issue stemmed from a new 3rd party service I decided to try months ago and then forgot...

    Battery discharging after 2020.20.13 update

I've subscribed to this thread. Unfortunately for me, 2020.24.6.1 did not fix this issue for me on my Performance Model 3. My model 3 hasn't slept multiple times in a day since 6/11 and it hasn't slept at all since 6/30. Latest Updates 7/10 - 7/13 (no sleeps) 7/9 (no sleeps) 2020.24.6.4 was...

    12v Switched?

Or open up the back side of the center console near the AC vents for the rear passengers. The brown wire going to the arm rest is the only one you need. It's in the bundle up front too, but as todd2fst4u mentioned, there is no easy way to isolate it in the bundle. You'll need to test.

    12v Switched?

Not to start a debate (and it's certainly not my intention to argue), but I just wanted to mention that the Epicenter does not accomplish the same goal that I chose a DSP for. Epicenter attempts to restore missing bass, but I chose a DSP to try and remove unwanted extra bass. I honestly don't...

    12v Switched?

The picture you posted was from my first "loose test". The final ground point was actually the same ground point used by the stock amplifier: This is the same ground point others have used. If you still feel this is not a good ground point, let me know. The whole ground wire is about 3 feet...

    12v Switched?

Verrrrry interesting. I wonder if that's actually a different wire or if it's a different behavior between the SR+ and Premium Sound. Mine is working great for now, but I'll keep this wire in mind in case I need to find another option later. I cover the ground in Part 3 of my blog series...

    12v Switched?

Unfortunately this is not always correct, depending on your equipment. As I mentioned in post #70, my HD1200/1 amp has reached 125 F just sitting in the trunk without anything playing. And I've noticed much more vampire drain since 16.2.1. My car can go many hours without sleeping, especially...

    12v Switched?

This is new to me. Have you verified this yourself @todd2fst4u or did you read it somewhere? If you read it somewhere, could you share a link? I ask because I thought @Ingineer said that red wire at VCRight is the same red wire that goes into the amplifier in the trunk. I have personally...

    12v Switched?

I got tired of waiting for a better fix and my son offered to help me yesterday, so we did this brown wire hack as well. We used this ASH-100DD solid state relay that I got on Amazon for $12 bucks and it worked great. Bottom-Left: Ground Bottom-Right: Brown wire from center console...

    12v Switched?

I just wanted to follow up on post #28 in this series by @Ingineer. He suggested tapping the 30A feed to the rear amplifier if you have premium sound. But today I finally popped out the carpet again and tested that wire right at the amplifier. To my dismay, this wire also does NOT power off when...

Thank you for posting this @robertmhoehn. This site looks very well organized and I see a lot of great asks from the community already in there. 12v Switched?

Any chance you could post a picture? I'm still trying to figure out if this pin is at the exact same (or mirrored) location as the VC_LEFT 12V tap.

    12v Switched?

Thank you so much for the info @Ingineer. I was just going to ask the same thing. Yeah, this is my problem too. Currently it's taking many hours for VC_LEFT to power down. Which I'm assuming it's doing when the car goes to sleep, so it doesn't appear that moving to this ODBII port option...

    12v Switched?

Hey, what do you mean by center console lights? I'm guessing you don't mean the footwells right? I'm trying to figure out what lights you're talking about. Someone in another forum mentioned maybe keying of when the touch screen powered up, but that would require access to a data signal I don't...

    12v Switched?

Yeah, I do have a wire run all the way to the back for remote on. I could disconnect that up front and connect it to the GTO (sense) in the back. Basically just reverse the circuit. And I could put that on a relay up front. But man, that really feels like a hack. I did wake up this morning to...

    12v Switched?

Good point about the audio sense trigger. I do have that on my LC2i and I could use that for the amp, which is my biggest concern. Unfortunately it doesn't help for the laser module or radar detector. I just keep wondering if this was an intentional change or an accidental one that might get...

    12v Switched?

Sorry to revive an old thread, but this seems to be the most relevant one. Has anyone else noticed that starting with 16.2.1 VC_LEFT appears to not shut off anymore? At least not when charging at home. Everything is staying on all night for me now including my radar detector and amplifier. I...

Road Strike, PPF Wrap and Ceramic

Thank you @joebruin77 and @JasontheBeaver. I think that's sort of the way I was leaning toward myself but good to hear it from someone else. Yeah, I didn't figure the wrap would heal like the PPF. I guess I'll have to think about how long I might want to keep the wrap too.

Road Strike, PPF Wrap and Ceramic

This post is a request for opinions from fellow M3 owners. I bought my M3 new in early 2019. I really wish I'd done PPF at the time but I didn't. In October I had an unfortunate encounter with a metal plate that took flight and impacted my bumper. The whole event took only 1 second and...

I go running and don’t take my phone: what are my options for locking/unlocking my car?

Color-only recognition can easily be spoofed by a photo or video. That's why Apple and Microsoft both use Color + Infrared cameras for secure facial recognition. I think the camera feeds from the pillars won't be a trustworthy enough source for authentication.

I go running and don’t take my phone: what are my options for locking/unlocking my car?

If you leave your phone anywhere near the vehicle when you run be sure to turn off Bluetooth. Otherwise you're leaving the car unlocked. I agree with what many have said about carrying a card. Yes, it can fall out if you're not careful. But it's also the lightest and most reliable way to open...

Installed my tablet on a dash mount

Hey @MarcG, I've noticed sometimes people can be quite opinionated about what looks they do and don't like in their Teslas. So didn't take any criticism to heart! :) I'm personally not a fan of the side fingers either, but I do think you've got a cool idea there. As for magnetic mounts...

Elon: "Feature complete for full self driving this year"

(Sorry if this has been mentioned before. I've been keeping an eye on this thread but I don't recall seeing it and it didn't come up in searches.) Elon: "Feature complete for full self driving this year"

Okay, but am I missing something? In my post I said that opting out of data collection is a way to opt out of the observation piece (I was writing about the detectors Karpathy mentioned in his presentation). You said opting out of data collection doesn't opt you out of "all of it". Then you...

Elon: "Feature complete for full self driving this year"

Shadow mode does not update how your vehicle operates without your consent. The detectors that Karpathy mentions only run in observation mode. They help collect new data, but they do not modify the vehicles driving behavior. Behavior modification doesn't come until the next major update (which...

    Support for a Tesla UserVoice

I think it would be fantastic for someone from the Tesla Owners Club to create even an unofficial feature voting system. The main problem I see with this being a community run system is cost. UserVoice does not post their pricing, but from what I can see it runs around $500 a month! One...

2020.8 Temporarily Suspended for Some HW3 Upgrades

Well, lo and behold, mine just updated to 2020.8.2 tonight. About 12 hours short of the 1 week mark. Maybe we're seeing a holding pattern here for some reason after upgrading to HW3. I read in a FB group that updates are delayed for a week or two after first taking delivery to avoid any...

Aux input into Model 3 (or: FM modulation questions)

It would never pair when the module was in TX mode. That was the odd thing. The car would only pair when the module was in RX mode, which made no sense to me. I still have my modules but they're not charged. I'd be surprised if the behavior changed. But if you want me to play around with it...

2020.8 Temporarily Suspended for Some HW3 Upgrades

Yes. I have very strong wifi in the garage, where the car has been parked since last Thursday. I've also woken it up via TeslaFi and via walking to the car to check for updates about once a day. It's had time. This is entirely anecdotal at this point, but I've seen 2 people claim that their...

2020.8 Temporarily Suspended for Some HW3 Upgrades

Lots of people are being upgraded to 2020.8 and even 2020.12. Still, I am hearing from several people in my Houston FB group that they too are stuck on 2020.4 and the car won't update. Just like mine. This seems to be tied to a specific vehicle configuration but it's not clear what. Still...

2020.8 Temporarily Suspended for Some HW3 Upgrades

Thanks for the data point jjrandorin. The tech made it sound like it's a combination of things. The vehicle configuration + HW2.5 vs HW3, etc. Or maybe that's just the regular line they give when they can't push an update. I wish I knew for sure. But for now, I just keep checking for updates...

2020.8 Temporarily Suspended for Some HW3 Upgrades

I received the HW3 upgrade on Thursday. As expected, software was rolled back to 2020.4. However, unlike other users after I got home and got it on Wifi it never would upgrade back to 2020.8. I finally contacted support yesterday and got a response this morning. I won't post the whole thread...

2nd phone app user: Same Tesla account or separate?

Ahh. I liked your response BTW because I didn't know that. My assumption about it being tied to the account was wrong then. That's how we had it setup from day one. But now that I think about the phone key user interface on the touch screen, that makes sense. It's driven by the phone and not the...
