    Oil change affect warranty?

Hey folks, an update on this. Just did another fluid change at 139600 miles so about 20k after the last one. The fluid was pretty clean, cleaner than last time. So I'm pushing the next one out to 40k miles. Should be fine at this change interval, don't have photos as I did a rush job, same...

Salvage Model 3 charging problems, how to get it repaired?

Why don't you use the OBD and pull the pack voltages and see if one of the sub-packs is bad? shouldn't be too expensive to swap a sub-module out to repair it?

Clean shiny salvage Tesla, should I buy this? - Noob question

They don't salvage cars for nothing, I would be really suspicious about this car.

    Driveshaft clicking ok?

I checked my driveshaft nut torques and they are all good, as are engine mount bolts etc. Still have the click between reverse and forward, nobody knows the magic place where this grease goes?

Drive unit coolant leak, tear down/test/repair (hopefully)

Bummer, yes let us know the outcome. I can imagine at some point in the future I'll need to do this but hopefully by then all the wear parts will be more readily available.

    Driveshaft clicking ok?

Seems like there is zero real evidence or knowledge on this subject apart was vague info passed on from dealers. Puts me back at square one

    Driveshaft clicking ok?

Hi folks, its still not clear what needs grease so I will attach a couple of photos of generic hub/driveshaft etc (not tesla but equivalent) can someone edit and add circles or arrows to what part needs the grease? thanks

    Driveshaft clicking ok?

How does grease stop this? can someone post the procedure? This post from that link sounds like the CV joint: "I had this same issue at 140,000 miles. Half shafts were repacked with grease. Noise was gone. Now at 147,000 miles and noise is starting to reappear. I suspect that the torque of...

    Driveshaft clicking ok?

I've heard something about this. How exactly do you 're-pack' a nut? I already tried tightening it and nothing changes.

    Driveshaft clicking ok?

My wife's 2014 S makes the clicking or slight clunking sound that a lot of S's have made when switching between slowing down and accelerating etc. I've heard conflicting things about the source and also if its just a nuisance or if there is something really wrong. If its just annoying I'd...

Neat, really interesting to see and I'm sure more folks will find this useful in the future as the cars age :)

Drive unit coolant leak, tear down/test/repair (hopefully)

One question, as I understand it the failure mode on the big motor is the motor bearings for the rotor are sealed with grease which eventually degrades, this degrades the bearings which start to have more run-out. The extra run-out stressed the teflon rotating coolant seal to the rotor, this...

Long time reader, Just picked up "Used" 2015 85D through Tesla

Nothing wrong with different brand tires front/rear, as long as they are evenly worn, good tread, no damage etc you're fine.

    Click/Clunk/Ping sound regen/power

Hey all, like many others I have this sound when I go between drive and regen, its like a ping/clunk/click sound from the rear end (S85). I have read various fixes on this and I checked the driveshaft nut torque on both sides and they are tight but it still makes the noise. Some people say...

    Alternate tires for 19" wheels?

Hey all, wife's car will need at least 2 new tires soon and I am curious to know if anyone has fitted different sized tires to the 19" rims? I prefer more sidewall for a cushy ride and more protection against potholes. Anyone done it? if so what size did you get and did you have any problems...

Porsche Taycan Is Completing Its Final Test Drives: Videos

Although I like Tesla and own a model S, I'm really looking forward to seeing this car in person and perhaps taking a test drive. I think the more electrification the better! Having said that I'm ready to be a little disappointed on the looks, the original concept was great but something tells...

Why are all car paint colors so boring?

I've been asking myself that recently and I think I have a plausible theory... Its because the majority of people don't "own" a car anymore, they just rent it. Via loan/lease or whatever they only use the car for a while before it goes somewhere else. Now if you don't actually own the car or...

After Market Battery Model S refresh

I believe it has to do with the specs on environmental conditions. Old fashioned lead batteries work under extreme conditions which is what you want in a car sold worldwide. The downsides of lead batteries are weight, cycle life and also depth of discharge issues. You can't discharge them much...

Poll - How many miles on your *motor*

I managed to find the previous owner of my car and found out when the motor was changed; he said 2016 because of whining sounds. So considering his yearly mileage it means my motor has about 50-60k on it now. We have warranty for 3 more years and wife will put about 60k more miles on the car in...

After Market Battery Model S refresh

Here you go, maybe order one from this guy: Tesla Model S Secondary 12 Volt Battery - C&D DCS-33UNCR | eBay And take it to the dealer to have them swap it. Or do it yourself. 2016 Model S's have a relocated battery which is much easier than the older models.

    Preowned Tesla

A car that has some kind of battery fault is not worthless. There are things that can fail inside the pack body that are unrelated to the cells themselves; like coolant parts, sensors, contactors etc. Even if one of the battery modules fails, the current market used price for a module is...

Hi all, I've read various things on the forum about having to charge up to 100% and down low to re-balance the cells/packs and allow the computer to adjust its range estimates. Model S Tow hook?

I had a loaner model S (MY 2018) last week and there was a big tow hook in the frunk, mine (MY 2014) has no such thing. Is it just missing or did MY 2014's not come with a screw in tow hook? I guess if it should be there I'll have to hunt for one. Thanks

    12v battery warranty?

Just picked up my S85 from the dealer here, it's way out of warranty as far as I know but when I was expecting to pay there was no charge. 2014 S85 vs 2017 S75 for road trips

This is an old thread but I thought I'd add my experience, I have a 2014 S85 and I got a 2018 75D loaner while it was in the shop. The 75 seems way more efficient, I usually baby my S85 but I was driving the 75 harder and still getting good whr per mile values. There only two things I can...

Tesla model s rotational noise.. help

Does it go away when you drive fast like over 60mph? some has suggested that its loose tire foam, if it is then the centrifugal forces at higher speeds will stop it moving around. Noises are very hard to diagnose unless you can describe it in minute detail, there are literally hundreds of...

Poll - How many miles on your *motor*

After seeing the motor rebuild threads on here and seeing some of (IMHO questionable) design choices Tesla put into the Non-Dual (large) motor rear motors I'm curious if *anyone* has actually reached a high mileage on one of these motors? All the high mileage Model S cars I've seen have been...

Early drive unit milling noise FIX

I'm not sure that's true here. This motor has the highest mileage of an single S motor I've seen. The other high mileage S cars that I've seen have had multiple motor swaps. Tesla has tested the M3 motor to 1 million miles and shown pics of the tested motor internally.
