trunk struts

2017 Model S 90D Loved the power liftgate trunk for a great 6 years. It opened at its tallest about 52 inches (132 cm) from lower trunk gasket to the trunk edge. I call this the head injury/ concussion zone … then it stopped working. Now only opens and closes automatically up to about 41 inches...

I’m guessing I need new struts. Behavior is it will crack open and sometimes automatically raise fully and sometimes not. If I lift a bit manually and try again it will engage and go the rest of the way on its own. From service manuals I see the left strut is gas and the right strut is gas...

The three pictures say it all. After five months, one of the struts came apart when I opened the trunk, went sideways under force and cracked my rear glass in my M3. The 2nd struct when I pulled it out, has a crack running through the plastic head but had not broken yet.. it was on it's way...

Hi Guys I am considering upgrading in the trunk and frunk struts to enable a better opening function. I have seen a number of Youtube videos etc. I wanted to see what this group think about it and any recommended brands. Thanks jason
