2015 S 85D rear trunk doesn’t automatically open

I’m guessing I need new struts. Behavior is it will crack open and sometimes automatically raise fully and sometimes not. If I lift a bit manually and try again it will engage and go the rest of the way on its own.

From service manuals I see the left strut is gas and the right strut is gas with the actuator inside. I can’t do the replacement myself on the right strut because you need Tesla Toolbox 3 to make it work.

My question is: if I just replace the left gas strut do you think that will help give it a bit extra boost to avoid the issue? Or must I replace both struts…which would be a service call :(

Try recalibrating the opening amount:
Open the trunk, then manually lower or raise the liftgate to the desired opening height. Press and hold the button on the underside of the liftgate for three seconds until you hear a confirmation chime. Confirm that you have set it to the desired height by closing the liftgate, then reopening it.
