The largest banyan tree in India is in Chennai in South India, and I was absolutely blown away when i first saw it as 10 year old kid, as a part of school outing. Some stats I gathered on the internet:
"This tree is about 450 years old, 40,000 sq feet and it measures 238 feet from north to south and 250 feet from east to west, held up by a 40-feet tall, 30-tonne trunk and thousands of pillar-like roots dropped from the canopy"
After centuries it now looks like a network of trees. Unfortunately on a recent cyclone the main trunk fell over and it died and so what we have now is only a fraction what existed for centuries.
