2016 06/2016 MS Steering Rack Replacement

I am looking to replace my steering rack with a used one. After looking at part numbers and wondering if anyone has any experience with fitment issues. The part that I am looking to replace it with is 1070801-00-F. I have also found that the letter at the end of the part number is the revision of the part, so I would assume the later revision, the better it would be?

Thanks for the future responses!

Check the Tesla Parts Catalog Parts Catalog

I have had the upper steering column replaced which turns the wheel on self drive, telescopes, tilts, etc., about $1700. Note you may need the part for cars built before August 21, 2017, if you really want the lower steering column, a different part number from the one you provided..

Parts catalog has lower steering gear and column:

PS, that price tho lol 😅

@brainhouston with the older ones having a bigger assist motor, getting a new style one wouldn't be an issue would it? Meaning a smaller one would fit in the same area.
i can't speak for S, haven't researched it
but it seems to be same part numbers for S/X and on X, old one has 4 mounting bolts, new one has 3, and subframe is different
also, electrical plugs are different on both
so pretty sure they are NOT interchangeable...

For S, looks like 3 different subframes (RWD, AWD old, AWD new) but still 2 types of racks with different connectors.

I was told that I likely have that top part in my June 2017 but the service center would replace it with that bottom part, and I was told that that they likely can’t put the newest part 1459637-00-A in my car which is the one I think I want because it has redundancy. More here.

Why would the older ones have a larger motor than the redundant ones? Or do you mean 1060801-00-E is larger than 1070801-00-F?

2017 should have bottom part, they switched to it with AP2
They are not interchangeable.
145* part number is model 3 steering rack

yes, visually 106* has larger assist motor than 107*
some ppl reported in X forum that u just get heavier steering feel with newer motor, which is ok with me n probably better overall for road feel

I’ll give my parts guy a hard time if that is true, but someone else quotes that 145* part number for the S here. Otherwise, any idea What the AP2.5 part number is and whether it can be retrofit? I heard that it isn’t the servo that is redundant in AP2.5, but rather the power supply for the servo, so I’m curious as to whether the power supply is in that 107* unit or someplace else. And where that someplace else would be.

ok i need to revise my earlier statement
i saw 1459637 listed on ebay as model 3 but maybe its wrong or some very early prototype cars had it, its not listed in epc

but i did miss it on epc for S, it does seem to be compatible with 106* ones, not sure what the diff is

i also checked my 2016.11 S and it does have 106* type
so it seems S followed different path from X and changed steering rack with AP2.5, which i believe is Aug 2017 like epc note says
