2019 Model 3 airbag warning light

After a recent software update I started getting airbag warning light. I took it in for service and was told it was a hardware issue with the new update. They scheduled me for a future appointment and now they are telling me it's out of warranty and it's going to cost me $1,500 to fix it. After explaining it was not a warranty issue if a software update isn't working with older hardware they only text back the car is out of warranty. I was even told by the service department when I was there the airbag will still work it's just a piece of hardware that needs to be installed to fix the fault. Is anyone having a similar issue?
