2022 MYP range estimate with 19” Martian wheels?

Oh yeah, I can sell it for $59K pretty easily. Have two standing offers for that. And I check the value of the car every month or two.. just to keep up options if I wanted to upgrade.

The problem is a new MYP has gotten so expensive! Now starting at $68K and I'd want the same options I have now.. red paint, white interior, tow hitch.. so add another $4,000 + $1,200 for delivery and it's now $75K for a new MYP before taxes/tags/title! Considering I'd be selling my MYSR, not trading it.. I would lose any sales credit and with taxes almost $20K to upgrade.

The monthly payment would basically jump up about $200. I've gone back and forth on it for a while. The cheapest price difference I calculated was about $12K around October and of course, you see what the numbers now are. At the end of the day as much as I want to do it, it's paying significantly more money for what really is just a faster version of the car I already have with about 25% more range. If there was more of an actual difference between the cars (4680 cells with faster charging.. structured battery with 300lb weight loss.. significantly better build quality & maybe some new fricking paint choices).. it would really help with the decision. As-is, I doubt my wife could even tell the difference between the two cars. Especially given I already have the black 20" inductions on the MYSR. That said.. I really don't see myself driving anything else but a Tesla for quite a while.. so either way I'm going to be in Y for a long time.. as there is no way Im going to be able to afford a Cybertruck!

The more I seriously consider it, the more I think would end up with regret. Forget any extra speed & range.. those are things I might tend to use here and there. Whereas I actually DO use AP every day and chances are the radar-based AP on my 2021 Y.. still works much better than the new vision-based AP on the 2022 Y.

totally understand ur position. I wouldnt upgrade too if I was u.

i only pull the trigger bc My 2020 LR had 30k so I was getting worry about my warranty expiring soon (40k?). I needed new tires soon, I have a minor crack on my windshield and a few minor ding/scratches from parking. since it was my first tesla and I did paid for the accelerator boost. Coming from riding a motorcycle, I step on it every time I can without the family inside. Had a little too much fun. Also Fast charging it quick a bit since I had $1000 credit from EvGo. Volvo offer me 62k so I couldn’t say no back in nov 2021. I sold it the same day and placed an order for the P at 65k with tow. Figure I can share my wife Prius for a few months and I do have a pickup truck for backup. I was betting on the new tax credit for the new year to cover all the difference but that didnt happen. It’s ok, got all the new upgrade instead. Just no 4680, that was the last thing I can wish for.

Oh yea, my first loan was 2.5% and new one is 1.25%. My current payment is less than my first Y. :)

The motors are different (and purportedly less efficient) in the performance version. It is definitely NOT more efficient.

The real world range of the MYP is way worse than the MYLR. Adding smaller wheels helps this somewhat, but I've never seen a single instance in which someone was able to get all of the range difference back by just swapping wheels. I would LOVE to be wrong about this though.
This is based almost entirely on individual driving characteristics. WAY worse is just not true.

Well done!

303 wh/mi life bc I was having a little too much fun. Did a few 0-60 run with the 21” before removing them. And a few more on the 19” to compare with. FYI. The Martian was .30 faster. I had a dragy. I rode a sport bike for over 20 years so just can’t help it.

So for the past week driving on chill mode, I’m getting 260 wh/mi. I lived up the hill so that kills it every time going home. If wasn’t the hillls. I’m sure I can get below 250. This is 50/50 street hwy.

Got to say. Driving a Prius for 5+ years help u control the gas pedal and get the best range u can. 😆
So you're getting sub 3.5S for 0-60? That's really impressive. I might just follow your lead.

You sound like me, but am probably much older; I too can’t help speed, not so much on a bike but fast modify street rods.

I also been driving a Prius for over 7 years and still have it and love it.

Got my Tesla MYP three months ago and been thinking of installing 19’ wheel, for the sake of getting better long range and to protect my 21’ wheels from crazy rash.

What’s your thoughts on the MYP vs LR with acceleration boost? I’m thinking about ordering a Y and I’m trying to decide between the P and LR with acceleration boost. LR would have better efficiency and range. And ride better too. P obviously faster but I’m sure I’d have to buy a second set of rims and tires for winter time so extra expense there. Just not sure which direction to go! Coming from a M3P

MYP is quick even after 60 mph. While LR w/AB is quick 0-60 but thats pretty much it. Don't get me wrong, its already quicker than most cars out there. But the MYP has a punch 0-60, 60-90! It has a punch pretty much any speed. Its very additive. Also battery level matter. Once your battery drop below 60%, the LR w/AB does loose some quickness while the P is still quick at any battery level.

If you going to get the LR w/AB, I would just jump to the P if yor have your financial figure out. For anyone even consider paying the 2k for the AB, just go for the P. You will not regret it. No need to tell you everything u getting from the P vs the LR. To me, the red caliper, better suspension and the rear CF spoiler is worth it already. And you don't have the wait a year for your car. A P is around 3 month wait.

Just buy 19" or 20" aftermarket wheels and sell your 21". You can easily get 2500-2800 for them. Or just get the 19" gemini and powder coat them black. I think it still look slick! With 19", you can get all your range back, all depend on how you drive tho. Of course, you can have some fun here and there. If you owned a M3P, you might be disappointed in the LR. Its a pretty dip in performance. my 2 cent.

I have a 2020 LRMY without the acceleration boost. It is easy to drive beyond the capabilities of the LRMY's OE 19" tires, brakes and suspension. If you plan to drive fast then the Performance Model Y is the better choice. 99% of the time I drive like my mom is a passenger in the LRMY but that 1% of the time I can quickly tell that the LRMY is not well outfitted for spirited driving.

Yeah I agree with all your positives and would much prefer to get the MYP. Problem is they don't make a 7 seater, and with two small ones thats a must for us. I'll get AB. The cost of the MYP is well worth it if you are looking at 5 seat models.

Agreed with u too. I have a young child. If two, my wife probably force me to get the 7. But I’ll try my hardest to convince her 2 child is still ok with the P. If 3 kids, i can’t argue with her. 😭

Thanks for the opinions guys! After doing a lot of thinking I tend to agree with you. A LR with acceleration boost and the 20 inch wheels is only 1,000 less than a P. Or 3,000 less with the 19 inch Gemini. Not saving enough to justify the difference.
If you are coming from the M3P, you will appreciate the MYP. Be aware there are definitely driving dynamic differences between the two. I really miss the 3 but have to keep the wife happy and we were fortunate enough to be able to step up to the X.

Yeah I know that it won't handle near as well as the M3P. Nor will it have track mode or be quite as fast. I'm good with that. I drove a Y as a loaner while I was getting some work done to my 3 and really liked it. More room and the higher seating position is really nice.

just did a quick 2 day trip to Reno, nv from the SF Bay Area. Took my daughter to circus circus to play some games.

round trip with my MYP and 19" martian. Drove 532 miles and avg 275 wh/mi. Damn 50 miles mountain and 90s degree day or im sure I can keep my avg below 250! Avg speed was 68-72 on a 65 zone. Got a precious cargo so can't speed. Got the AC blasting too. Quick 10 min SC charging going there, plus bathroom break. Free charging at the Casino. Another quick 5 min SC charging coming home, plus potty. Got home with 7%. Perfect timing! Got solar at home. Total cost was liked $15 to cover 532 miles.

fyi. Life time number is mix with my original 21” where I did quite a few 0-60 runs and a 300 ish commute miles testing. 😁
