Per my original posting, I'm reaching out to forum friends to see what the interest would be if the responsible party's insurance chooses to repair versus total the car. I do not know what the price would be nor if the car will even be available yet.

I did this once before many years ago when my wife's S was hit and it worked out well for a forum member.

There are codes regarding availability of the rear ultrasonic transducers that were damaged. There may be more; I've not verified but the adjuster got a pic of the error screen as part of the damage assessment.

Airbags were not deployed.

Suspension appears to me to be untouched. I've driven it about 60 miles between taking it to my agent to report the accident and having the local Tesla body shop do an initial estimate. It seems to dive fine/unchanged apart from an increase in wind noise :)

Again, I'm just at the start of this process. The accident was literally two days ago so I am developing options (along with looking for another car).

As the listing says, if interested please drop me a note and I will send a link to more info. There is just too much personal information to openly link to pictures and the like.

You can find me via PM or Bill at my screen name dot com.

You are going to want the assistance of a company like Collision Safety Consultants. They will be able to maximize the insurance payout and will work with you to keep the car from totaling if that makes more financial sense. Once you get to that point, I may be interested at a reasonable price as I run a Tesla Certified Collision Center.

Just got back from Atlanta with the replacement 23 Pliad. It was a Tesla lease repo then auction car. Very good value.

Data point on Tesla's quality management approach.
I ordered a replacement car the night of the accident as it was obvious to me the damage with significant enough to warrant disposing of the 21.
I had put CCM brakes on my Plaid five months back. I stopped by the service center and asked if they would move my brakes from the 21 to the 23 as a paid for service operation. They would not allow an accident damaged car on the lot. I thought this was odd as the car is perfectly drivable and they would not be touching any part of the car that had accident damage (wheels and suspension completely untouched by the accident). They would not budge. I explained that it would cost them a new car sale. They would not budge. Typical Tesla to cut off their nose to spite their face. They still do not need customers badly enough to behave like thoughtful humans greatfull to have people buying their product. Maybe some day.

The experience brought up an interesting thought excercise. Just how much accident damage makes a car "persona non grata" at a Tesla Service Center. One corner dinged? Two corner's dinged? One corner and a door? Very strange but perfectly within character for a company that treats customers like cattle.

End of rant :)

Unfortunately, regardless of the damage on your old car, SC's will not install "used" parts.

I think you missed the point.

I wanted the CCM brakes I purchased five months back and that this service center installed on my 21 Plaid moved over to the 23 Plaid.
The refusal was based on the 21 Plaid being accident damaged.

This was not a decision based on putting used parts on a car. It was a decision based on the idea that Tesla does not make any money dealing with all the BS that comes from insurance adjustments and thus refuses to have the cars on their service center lots.

I asked the body shop that did the estimate about Tesla's practices and they gave me an interesting example.
An owner came in with damage on the wheel and a bent a-arm/toe link. Apparently a truck with a three ball hitch backed into just the wheel and there was ZERO damage to body panels. The car was originally taken to a Tesla SC but they would not accept the car. It had to go to the body shop and they dealt with the insurance company issue. The shop simply loaded the car onto a flatbed and had it delivered to the Tesla SC for repair (as the body shop does not do supension or alignment work). The car could only come to the SC as a sub from the body shop.

Do not get me wrong; I love the cars. Between my wife and I we have owned a bunch of them. I am absolutely disgusted by the .5% of the ownership experience where I have sales interaction with management. Tesla treats customers as disposable chattel with outright distain for any interests other than their own. It must be some kind of Silicon Vally software company mindset where customers are a necessary imposition. I'll keep buying the cars because of what they are but I really wish the company was not run by a man that stopped maturing at 14 and has issues that impair personal interaction skills. That said, those same issues make him a fantastic engineer and motivator of other engineers. The cars would not exist without his flaws so I accept the situation.

Back off the milk crate......

I got an estimate from the only authorized Tesla repair shop in my area the day after the accident. That is not good enough for State Farm. They have to have their estimator come look at it some time next week. If it is anything like my past experience with SF, their estimate will be half of what a real shop says it will take to fix the car. No surprise given SF has a financial interest in the pay out.

I have to get through this insurance crap before I know if the car is totaled, if SF will be reasonable and let me sell as is or if I will be forced to repair the car and sell it at a reduced price point because of the significant damage repair.

My comment was that it looks like the as is value is heading towards about $20k. Just sharing what I know as I know it.

I’ll stay following this thread pending what happens with SF. Our 2014 is on somewhat borrowed time and you’re local in WPB; might end up working out.

Unfortunately the field appraiser is unlikely to write a complete estimate unless they have a Tesla specialist in your area. USAA has an inside team that is very good at writing accurate estimates from detailed photos. As I mentioned before, hiring a company like Collision Safety Consultants would be a good investment toward maximizing payout.

Is State Farm your carrier or the responsible party's carrier? Hopefully you're not cross insured.

State Farm is both my and the at fault party's insurer.
I will not be made whole. Any expenditures on outside consultants is money out of pocket for me.
State Farm's field appraiser will be examining the car at the Tesla Authorized shop. The shop has indicated they will pull panels to gain full access to all the damage.

I am in a holding pattern until I see SF's estimate. I've already made my feelings clear. If they act in bad faith it will not end well for them. I remain hopeful.

Cross-insured is always a tough one and a consultant can still help negotiate but that could be done after the first appraisal. One way this could get worse is if you chose a shop that is on the State Farm Select Service program. This will cut the labor rate and potentially add parts discounts.

The body shop worked diligently to get State Farm to reassess their position. SF has gone from a $20k estimate to making the car a total loss/salvage. The offer for current market value was accurate and fair. I've accepted the offer, SF has collected the car and it will likely go through the CoPart Auction in Orlando within the next few weeks.

Thank you to all that expressed interest.

What was the salvage retention offer? Probably way too high but would be a great data point.
