I read that TXDoT is "making their own brine solution" and I see around Dallas and Fort Worth the main roads have these parallel lines on the surface - in fact I actually saw a crew doing it in Dallas last week
The lines are definitely new and AFAIK they've never used salt before, which is one reason cars last so much longer here
Maybe it's a consequence of that big multi-fatality pileup they had on I35W a few years ago
